Wow, what a great book this was!!! I have read quite a few of Kerry Wilkinson’s books and this one sure did not disappoint. He really hit a home run with this one. This was a stand alone book.
This book was about a woman who thought she was going crazy. She kept seeing her husband who disappeared many years earlier everywhere she went. But she knew that it couldn’t be true as she had killed him and got rid of the body herself. Or did she? Is her mind playing tricks on her? Did he have doppelgänger? Or does someone knows what she did and they are out to get her? All these questions and more are answered.
I want to start off by saying that I loved the storyline this book had to offer. I loved the fact you knew right away that the main character killed her husband and you were trying to figure out the whole book whether that was true or if he came back from the dead to haunt her. I couldn’t wait to find out whether this woman was crazy or not. This in itself made it a quick and great read for me. The main character was definitely not likable but that was what the author was going for. He wanted you to know that this person had evil inside of her and she was not this innocent person she betrayed herself as. All of this made the twist at the end so great. I couldn’t believe who was responsible and why they did it. It truly made me believe that no matter how nice a person seems on the outside there is always a mean person waiting on the inside to get out.
Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was happy to see that Kerry WIlkinson had a new book out and was excited to read it! I have enjoyed his other books and was ready to dive into this one. I have to say though that it took me a little bit to get into this one. It had sort of a slow beginning for me but did pick up towards the end. This story is written between the then and now at the perspective of Morgan. The timeline was very easy to keep up with and I enjoyed going back and forth to see what happened then and what was going on in the present.
Morgan is attending an awards ceremony when her friend snaps a picture for her and sends it to her. Morgan thinks her eyes are playing tricks on her because in the background, she sees her husband that disappeared some time ago, or that is what everyone else thinks. Morgan knows something different. Morgan know that it could definitely not be David because she took care of him, or did she for sure? Morgan's mind goes back and forth all the time wondering what happened and what could have happened. Was she sure or not?
When things keep popping up that make Morgan really wonder about whether David is for sure taken care of or not, she thinks she is going mad. She does not tell anyone though. When it all comes down to it, who is the one really playing jokes? You won't guess who this one is until the end. I didn't see it coming anyway. Kerry Wilkinson has given us another great thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat for sure. You will not want to put this one down once you get into it. I recommend this one for all the thrill lovers for sure.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc.
I absolutely adore all of Kerry Wilkinson's books. I really liked this one too but it didn't grip me like the others. I was continuously waiting for the exciting bit to kick in but it never happened.
Overall I enjoyed the book, it was fast paced and kept me intrigued enough to keep reading.
However the ending was just under whelming and was expecting something different.
Thank you netgalley, publishers and author for a chance to read this book.
Overall was a good book, kept my interest with decent twists and turns and the like. I’ve read other books by this author and it’s definitely entertaining, although the end left me a little “meh”...
I just love Kerry's books, and this one once again doesn't disappoint. I just loved the way the reader was pulled into the story, and I was kept guessing from beginning to end. Highly recommended!
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the advanced copy of this book
This is the first book I have read by Kerry Wilkinson and won't be the last. Well paced and great characters and I loved to storyline.
Close to you is a good thriller with interesting characters. It is well written and has great twists and turns.
Another winner from Kerry Wilkinson. The story is about Morgan, a personal trainer who has won an award and is attending the awards ceremony. A photograph is taken on the night by her friend and Morgan is horrified to see who she thinks is her ex husband, who disappeared two years ago, in the photo. The only problem is that only she knows it is impossible as she murdered him two years ago. Morgan is then doubting what happened. Is he really dead or is someone playing games with her? This enthralling thriller is told by Morgan in chapters that alternate between the past and present. Morgan’s life seems to be unravelling and spiralling out of control. Her car is stolen and is then involved in a hit and run accident but the police suspect her of being involved. This is a compulsive and addictive book with plenty of twists and turns and with a brilliant climax. It will have you hooked!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was my very first Kerry Wilikinson book, it certainly will not be my last!
This book was so good, so intriguing and sucked me in from the get go. I don't typically like unreliable narrators, however this was done in in a way that was go good. I couldn't put it down.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
3-4 stars. I thought this book was well written and a good thriller, but wasn’t my very favorite, but overall I can’t really complain about anything in it. I found it to have some good twists and turns, chills, and thrills, but for some reason I kept setting aside for others, which is why I couldn’t give it a higher score. I think most will enjoy it though, as I am quite a moody reader and likely had that going on. As it is well written and shocking.
Will make sure I buzz it up!
I love this author’s books and have read them all ever since the Jessica Daniel series. This standalone psychological thrillers .with its tight plot and twists galore gripped from the beginning. I can't wait to discover what his vivid imagination will conjure up for his next book. Very very highly recommended.
I like the way this author writes.
There is a lot of dark humor in this story, great one liners. The characters are very interesting but toxic for the most part. The mood he set had me on edge right from the beginning.
The story does take a few twists and turns but I did see where this was headed prior to the conclusion. Not bad, though it was a bit disheartening for me (and the sisterhood and all). Overall, it was entertaining.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.
Kerry Wilkinson delivers an interesting read with Close To You. While not completely gripping, the writing itself is relatable enough to make background details delightful and not a bore. The main character isn’t terribly smart or likable, but I prefer that over an always-do-good protagonist. Kerry isn’t afraid to portray the realism of humanity. The final scene was a bit strange; a villain spelling out and confessing their entire plot isn’t my favorite type of reveal over clues. Otherwise, it was an intriguing read.
Close to You is a standalone twisted thriller by best-selling crime author Kerry Wilkinson that will have you racing from the pages to see how it would end. The story centers around Morgan, a wife who murders her ex-husband, David…and gets away with it. But he is going to come back and haunt her!
I had to know more! I was glued to the book. Morgan is at an awards dinner with her best friend, Jane, where Morgan receives the “Personal Trainer of the Year Award.” When Jane later sends her friend a photo of the night, Morgan notices in the background her ex-husband David! How is this possible!
I pinch the screen to zoom until I’m staring at the face of a ghost. A man with very short hair, staring directly at the camera with piercing brown eyes.
He is as he was when I last saw him: wrinkles around the corners of the eyes and a knowing smirk. That’s the expression I see when I can’t sleep.
My body tenses. It can’t be him. It’s not my ex-husband. It’s not David.
I know that better than anyone because he didn’t walk out on me.
He didn’t disappear two years ago and he’s not a missing person.
I know that for a fact because I’m the one who killed him.
This novel written in the first-person alternates between past and present. The reader scrambles to learn more about the killer and what caused her to act the way she did…and she got away with it. Everyone believes her husband disappeared two years ago, and she plays her part well.
Favorite Quote:
“Here’s the thing with being a killer: for the most part, it doesn’t change a person from appearing “normal.”
Everyone else has spent two years thinking David disappeared. What I did to him only changed me in the sense that I know murder is something of which I’m capable.”
This is a twisted thriller with an unexpected ending that I did not see coming, but tied all the loose pieces together. A novel that will keep you guessing right until the end!
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.
This was a great read that dragged you along from the first page. I liked the characters and the tension built at a steady pace. I would have liked a bit more oomph from the ending but it was still a great read overall.
An excellent thriller that stays with you long past your bedtime. Incredibly brave characters. Kudos to the writer!
I really enjoyed this book and all it’s twists and turns. Morgan is a successful personal trainer - she attends an awards ceremony with her childhood friend Jane
Jane sends her a photo of the evening and in the background is Morgan’s ex-husband David - except it can’t be, can it?
To all intents and purposes, Morgan’s husband “disappeared” two years earlier. Only she knows the truth, she killed him and disposed of the body.
The story flits between the present and time before David’s disappearance and the reader begins to build a picture of how their relationship began. Things appear and disappear in Morgan’s house, including her car which is later involved in an accident with a pedestrian.
I didn’t see the end of the story coming and it was gripping, but I hoped it would have been more dramatic than it was. Nonetheless a great read and an author I will definitely read more from
Kerry Wilkinson is another author that I’ve read plenty of books from and haven’t been disappointed yet so I was happy to read this latest standalone psychological thriller. This book is told in two different timelines switching each chapter between the “now” and the “why” which takes readers back to the past.
Close to You begins the first chapter in the now as we meet the main character, Morgan, as she is attending an awards ceremony with a friend who is happily taking pictures of the event. When Morgan sees the pictures afterward a man in the background catches her eye and she is certain it looks just like her husband, but her husband David is dead.
Several years ago Morgan had reported David missing to the police but no trace of him had ever been found. Morgan however knows the truth about what happened that day she called in the police, Morgan had killed David herself so there is no way he could have returned, or could he?
Already going into a book knowing you have picked up a solid author is always a nice feeling, one that allows getting immersed in the story all that much sooner and I had that with this book. Oh the interest was certainly piqued knowing we had a killer on our hands and trying to figure out if the victim was back for revenge or what was happening. Definitely some twisting and turning in store that brought about a wrap up I never imagined.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Morgan is at an award ceremony her friend takes a photo she sends it to Morgan. Morgan can’t believe her eyes in the background is her husband David who went missing two years ago but it can’t be him because Morgan killed him. More strange things start happening. The story is told by Morgan in the past & present . Can all that Morgan says be believed . This book kept me hooked to the end with a brilliant ending.
Thanks NetGalley
