I just finished Samantha Bailey’s debut psychological thriller, Woman on the Edge! The book starts off with Morgan encountering Nicole while waiting to catch a subway train. Nicole pushes the baby into Morgan’s hands and jumps off the edge into an oncoming train. The note asks Nicole to take care of the baby. This is an intense quick read told through alternating chapters of Nicole before and Morgan after receiving the baby.

I could not stop reading as I wanted to figure out what and why this happened. Police Detective Martinez is no stranger to Morgan as she investigated the suicide of Morgan’s husband Ryan who was an investor who lost his client’s funds. Detective Martinez does not trust Morgan. Lots of twists with a few that were questionable. I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel and will be thinking about it for quite some time. Told in flashbacks leading up to the tragic suicide, the story slowly weaves together the seemingly unrelated lives of two women. Morgan is a widow, once married to the architect of a Ponzi scheme that bankrupted her family and friends. She’s been suspected of collusion and has spent her savings in repayments to her husband’s victims. Still, she is isolated and lonely. Nicole could not be more different. She is the founder and CEO of a fabulously successful athleisure company, has a beautiful apartment and a loving husband. Together, they await the birth of their first child, a baby girl. Things begin to fall apart after the baby is born. Long ago events affect Nicole’s behavior and her relationship with her husband and daughter. Meanwhile, in the present day, Morgan is accused of pushing Nicole to her death. She becomes involved in Nicole’s world to clear her name.

This is a fast paced page turner. The action moves so quickly that some characters need more development to make their actions better understood. However, that is overlooked as the story flies by. Woman on the Edge is Samantha Bailey’s first novel and it took her years to write. I hope she is now working on her next because I can’t wait! 4 stars.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This was an extremely intense psychological thriller from a new author for me. This book pulled me in from the first page and held my attention through the last page! I seriously could not put this book down.

Woman on the Edge was a fun (albeit dark,) couldn't-put-it-down, suspense novel.

Set in Chicago -- my home town! -- it is told in alternating chapters between Nicole and Morgan, we learn that Nicole, the founder and CEO of a wellness company called Breathe, thrusts her infant daughter into the arms of a stranger, Morgan, telling her she knows she'll keep the baby safe, before jumping in front of a train. Morgan, who has had a previous run in with the legal system, finds herself the main suspect in Nicole's death and must clear her name. Meanwhile, another stranger is out to get her before the police do.

Look, this isn't great literature by any means, but it was a fun read, and a highly recommend blocking off a few hours to yourself, pouring a glass of wine, and finishing this all in one go. Otherwise, you'll find yourself making every excuse to steal extra minutes away from what you're supposed to be doing to find out what happens next.

I even guessed who the villain was about halfway through, and I still really enjoyed the suspense of finding out if i was right.

A fast paced, mind twisting novel! This is literally a book you cannot put down because something is always happening, new information is always appearing. I loved Morgan and her willingness to find answers- although sometimes I wanted to scream “are you crazy????” at my book. As a medical professional, I cringed every time Nicole took yet another Xanax. Yet I felt for her thinking that she needed the medicine to get through a day. I cant wait to read more from this author!

You empathize with these characters while trying to figure out what the heck is going on. You won't be able to put this one down. And then ending 😱 oh my gosh. Praise to this author. What a phenomenal mind blowing read. Definitely five stars. Buy one for you and a friend.

The story is told in alternating parts between Morgan trying to find out why this stranger would do something like this, and the events in Nicole's life that led up to that moment. I could not put this book down. This is the best kind of suspense book.... great plot twists and a compelling storyline. I highly recommend it!

This book will grab you right from the start. It wastes no time and opens with the moment described in the blurb. A woman gives her baby to a stranger before she dies. Except she says the woman’s name before her death. Yet this woman had no idea how she knew her name. The story is just as compelling as it sounds. The book has an alternating timeline told in alternating chapters. We follow the stranger, Morgan, in the present in the aftermath of this incident as she tries to piece together what happened. Then we have a time jump into the past where we meet Nicole, the woman who gave away her baby, as she is pregnant and awaiting the birth of her child. I usually hate flashbacks but this makes sense as a story device as we slowly find out the back story to the event that starts the book. How does this woman who seems to have it all suddenly and so completely unravel? The answers will have you glued to the pages! The pacing is very quick and quickly pulls the reader in. The book is certainly not perfect and has some issues that could be expected with a debut author but this is still a great mystery and one you won’t want to put down. I figured out what was going on but still enjoyed the story as it led to the conclusion. I do think there should have been more time spent on that reveal but it’s not a big deal. This book was an amazing debut novel! I was SERIOUSLY impressed by it. This book only took me two hours and one sitting to read, but I would have kept reading much longer if the book had been longer. I flew through the pages for the simple fact that I HAD TO KNOW. I loved the characters, and the culprit absolutely floored me - I had no idea who was behind everything, and my guess was entirely wrong, which is rare for me. Four and a half stars, rounded up to five. Brava!

I loved this fast paced thriller. The story begins with Nicole handing her baby to Morgan a women she has never met and commits suicide by jumping in front of a subway car. The story goes back and forth in time between Nicole and Morgan until there lives intercept.

There are many twists and turns along the way and it was very hard for me to predict the outcome. There was major betrayal, heartbreak and suspicion between all the characters. If you like a quick page turner with lots of action and mystery than this is a book I highly recommend!

Morgan Kincaid is on her way home from work and in the subway waiting for a train when a woman suddenly approaches her and thrusts her infant daughter into her arms, telling her to “keep her safe” before jumping in front of a train and killing herself. The woman is CEO Nicole Markham. Morgan is struggling to process what happened and how this woman knew her name. Why is this stranger naming Morgan the guardian of her infant daughter in her Will? What links them together? When no one on the subway platform can corroborate her story that Nicole jumped, she quickly moves from being a witness to a suspect in a murder with a motive. Did she push her or did she really jump? In piecing things together, she learns of Nicole’s traumatic past and someone who has sent her threatening messages for years. Was Nicole in danger or was she just paranoid? Morgan starts to question just that until strange things start to happen to her that make her feel both unsafe and paranoid. Is Morgan and the baby now in danger? And if so, who can Morgan trust if the police don’t believe her?

What would you do if you believed yourself to be innocent but the police and community didn’t believe you? I can imagine how incredibly frustrating that would be to not feel heard. This book immediately starts off with a bang; Nicole handing her infant daughter over to Morgan and then falling in front of a train. Bailey makes you question everyone’s motives and who to trust. From the beginning it is hard to tell if Nicole was simply experiencing postpartum depression and psychosis or if someone was exploiting her vulnerability. Throughout the entire book you question the motives of every characters’ actions and what role they played in Nicole’s life. But when all the loose ends are tied up, it makes for a satisfying conclusion to the story. Bailey’s debut novel is suspenseful and will have you on the edge of your seat turning the pages (or swiping left) until the very end!

Great read for a first book for this author. Fast paced and easy to follow mystery/thriller. You can never quite figure out who to trust until much later in the book. You want to tell Morgan to do what her lawyer said and stay home and quit meddling as she is making things worse for herself. It holds your interest and you just want the baby to be okay! Jacket cover gives adequate plot set up, so no book report from me. Read and enjoy.

I feel indifferent about this one. The main thing that kept me going through the book was the question of what the connection between the two women were. There wasn’t anything shocking at all in this one for me. The chapters alternate between Morgan now and Nicole before. Another thing is, I didn’t find either Nicole or Morgan to be likable characters. I felt bad for Nicole, but I hated how she pushed everyone away and just completely fell into this manic state. She had a husband to talk to about everything. I’m big on communication and whenever there’s a lack of in a book, I get so annoyed. Like you could have avoided so much conflict if you would have just shared your burdens. I also just don’t understand how it shows her as this confident and accomplished CEO, and then she just turns into something else completely. Morgan was just frustrating with some of her decisions. She made it easy for the police to think she’s guilty. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this off the top of my head, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to stop someone from reading it.

Morgan has not had an easy time of it since her husband committed suicide. She is on the platform waiting for her train to take her home when a woman shoves her baby into Morgan's arms and tells her to keep her baby safe and then the woman jumps off the platform in front of the oncoming train. This was a good mystery that alternated between the present day and the days leading up to Nicole's suicide. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

It is very hard to believe that this masterful, edge-of-your-seat suspense is a debut novel for its author!

Woman on the Edge is gripping from the first sentence to the last. Morgan Kincaid is waiting for a subway train when a woman that she has never met approaches and talks with her, calling her by name and then saying "Take my baby", shoves the baby at Morgan and falls backwards onto the tracks as the train roars into the station. When witnesses can't corroborate her story and camera feed makes it impossible to tell if the victim fell accidentally, purposely or whether she was pushed, Morgan finds herself a suspect in the death. The victim, Nicole Markham, currently on maternity leave, was the founder and CEO of one of the bestselling companies in North America.

The story is told in alternating chapters from the POVs of Morgan in present time and of Nicole disclosing the events leading up to her death.

With an intriguing and finely executed plot, characters with depth, and MAJOR twists throughout, this is a read you won't want to miss!! Samantha Bailey is definitely a new author I want to watch. This book rates 5 stars from me. I highly recommend you add it to your TBR pile!

What a surprising story. You really feel the emotional struggle that both Nicole and Morgan are going through. Both have put their trust in the wrong person. The unfairness of live sometimes. You might have some guesses who is behind it all but I still think you be a bit surprised when you realize who the real villain is. The story flips back and forth between Morgan and Nicole and as the story unfolds you get to know both individuals and how they are connected.

I volunteered to read this book through netgalley for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. You guys should go to your local bookstore March 3, to get this book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. But there is trigger warnings for suicide and depression. It definitely sucked me in reading this book. It tells of a women on the edge who gives her baby to someone before jumping in front of a train. If you have read this book, what are your thoughts? I plan to read more books by this author in the future.

I had a hard time connecting with the characters in this book. I didn’t feel that there was a lot of depth to them. I felt the relationships between the characters were tenuous. Especially Ben and Morgan. I do like this author’s writing style and find it easy to read. I do plan on trying more of this author’s work because I feel like I could enjoy some of her other books a bit more. I did enjoy this one just not as much as I wish I could have.
