I can't tell you how many times I've laid awake and night praying, crying and pouring out my heart to God during the years of dealing with children who you try to raise to be Godly yet they seem to take their own paths. The heart of a mom with prodigal children, no matter their age, is one that is often breaking. However, we continue to pray for their return. Though your prayers may seem in vain, keep on praying. God is faithful. It may be a long journey but God has his own timing and though you may not see it,He is working!
I appreciate the thought and situations that brought Linda Clare to write the book but found it a bit confusing.
The first section of some of the prayers sometimes described what caused the prayer while at other times going straight into the prayer. Another problem for me was that the ideas were sometimes too personal and could not be adapted to fit my situation.
I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is my second book about prodigals and I enjoyed this one even more. The introduction had me in tears and I held on to every word the author shared. Hoping to find that one thing that would help me through all of this. And what I discovered was there wasn’t a magic pill or solution. There was only her pain, her story and Jesus. And I realized that was enough.
My prodigal has drifted further into the abyss and I never thought I would find them there. We are devastated. I’ve cried so much these past few weeks and I feel so sad. I don’t know what to do. What to say.
Having said that I found this book to be a salve on my breaking heart. I will not give up and this book helps me. I love these prayers that feel like they are written just for me and my tears.
I can not say enough good things about this book. If you need hope, if you need to know how to proceed this book will help. God is still good. He is still enough.
This was a NETGALLEY gift and all opinions are my own.
This book really hits home and has helped me pray better for my prodigal. It really struck me how much I felt responsible... how much I worry and how I’ve been reactive. How to trust and have HOPE! I feel this book is very helpful to parents regardless of the circumstances of your prodigal. I will be using this as a resource for friends and family who could benefit as they have a prodigal too!
Prayers for the Prodigals is for anyone struggling to love and help a prodigal of their own. Linda S. Clare struggles with three Prodigals who struggle with addiction. She's very honest of her own struggles.
The prayers in each chapter have Bible verses related and are very helpful especially if you have trouble with praying. It allows you to draw hope, wisdom and strength from God, letting you know your not alone.
I could not put down until I had read all of it and taken notes.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.
I think this book can be used in many different situations. Nicely done.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free,it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
Any Christian parent who struggles through the pain of loving prodigals will find an encouraging resource in Linda Clare’s book, Prayers for Parents of Prodigals. Honest and transparent about her own struggles to love and help three prodigal sons who suffer with addictions, Clare doesn’t offer easy, pat answers. Instead, she offers companionship in the journey, saying, “The only thing keeping me going is Jesus.”
Clare offers up 25 chapters on topics ranging from heartbreak and manipulation to forgiveness and self-care. Each chapter includes a short introduction followed by a few prayers. For example, in the chapter on forgiveness, there are four prayers broken up into sub-topics of forgiveness: A Key to Forgiveness, No Grudges, Throwing Stones, and Forgiving Times Infinity. At the beginning of each prayer, you’ll find a related Bible verse to help you draw hope, strength, and wisdom from God’s Word. When you don’t know what to pray or how to pray, Clare, out of her own experience, helps you learn how to be specific and honest with God.
I applaud Clare for her transparency. And while my children are in their teens now, I thank Clare for putting together this amazing resource that I hope I’ll never need. Still, as I pray for my children now, I find some of these prayers are still very relevant. Too, this is certainly a resource I’ll recommend to hurting parents of prodigals. I have not doubt it the prayers will help other parents keep going because of Jesus and the hope and strength he offers.
Note: I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for this honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
