This starts out explaining how fear can be good and bad and the differences in them. It explains how we need to give our unhealthy fears to Jesus and trust in Him. It has prayers to pray to show examples of how we can bring our fears to Jesus through prayers. I liked the artwork and thought it went well with the story. The message is a much needed one and I thought it was done very well. This is a great book to use as a resource with children to teach them how to handle fear. It is a longer book for little kids, but can be easily broken down into smaller sections to do one at a time for small children.

The main theme throughout this book is if your afraid talk to God, because God is always there. This book describes many ways children are afraid and after each example, there is a prayer children can say to God. The color coded words make reading fun and match each example.

Stormie Omaritan has written a wonderful book about fear for many children. This book will help normalize fear and help children feel comfortable processing their fear. I would Recommend this book for classrooms, churches and libraries.

I would not recommend this book for children who have experienced trauma. This is a book for children with average fears that impact children, not for children. Who have had hard things happen to them,

The text is clear and easy to follow, the illustrations are beautiful.

The publisher provided a copy of this book via NetGalley in return for my honest opinion.

The author explains the difference between good fear and bad fear in ways that children can understand. She encourages the children to talk to God about their bad fears and trust Him to protect them. She also instructs children to talk to their parents or other grown ups about the things they are afraid of. The list at the back of then book is especially helpful. I would make a copy of that list for my fearful child so that they can put it in their room or somewhere they would see if often so they can be reminded of God's love for them and His promise to help them with their fears.

God Cares When I’m Afraid by Stormie Omartian is geared toward four to eight year-olds. However. I found that it is easy for older children to read and related to this book. We all have fears so this is a great book to generate discussions. I say that because as I was reading the ARC digital copy with a five year old granddaughter when older upper elementary grandson came, joined us and began to read it aloud with us. He had examples, comments and questions to bring to the talk about the book.

The fact that fear is a natural emotion, even serving some good purposes is bought out at the first of the book. Then the book moves into more common childhood fears, such as the dark or loud sounds such as thunder. Always there is an example of a prayer for children, pointing out that help can be found in the Lord. Especially good is at the end is a list of things to say and do when you are afraid.

It is a non-fiction Biblical based book from the Bible verse at the beginning to the list at the end. It is a great book to encourage children to turn to God with their fears. It would be wonderful to use in family or church settings.

The publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

God Cares When I’m Afraid by Stormie Omartian covers a variety of common childhood fears and offers encouragement for children plus simple prayers to ask God for help. I’ve been looking for ways to teach my son and encourage him to pray to God and ask for help in this book is a great way to open up conversation.

This is a very sweet and illustrated book with a big message. Reading this to my little one facilitated good discussion and I believe broadened her view of how God cares about her. I love Stormie Omartian’s books for myself and I’m really glad that this one was written for children so we could share in the joy of her writing together.

I like the concept of the book, and the message that it gives out. However, the writing could be improved. It has great potential to teach kids how to pray, and lean on god.

I'm a big fan of Stormie Omartian and her writing. Power of a Praying...is one of my favorite series, so when I saw she has written children's books I knew I wanted to read them! God Cares When I'm Afraid is a really great, practical book for children ages 3-9. It goes through different scenarios where children might be afraid. It's accompanied by wonderful illustrations and my favorite part, a prayer at the end of each scenario. This is a great book to read at night to your kids. They will love the illustrations and the feeling of having other children have the same fears as them! You will love the prayers that end each section. Sometimes as a parent, it is nice to have examples of prayers to be able to pray with your children and God Cares When I'm Afraid is a great way to pray with your children and encourage them that God cares for them in all aspects of their lives.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book My opinions are my own.

A very colourful and well laid out book.
I found this book to be very practical.
It cannot obviously cover every single scenario regarding fear but it deals with main scenarios and helps children to understand the situation and even how to avoid the situation, I found the use of prayer powerful. As a Catholic and having attended Catholic primary school and secondary school, I do remember working through a workbook like this helping me learn about god in a colourful and positive way. I will be using this book with my nephew's.

Generally good book with good age appropriate lessons about a child's relationship with God. Illustrations are bright, colourful and appropriate as well. My only query would be that a child who has already had a tough life or witnessed parents or friends with tough experiences may not be able to relate to it so well. There's a sense that everything works out well in the end (which of course it does for the Christian) yet the road can be rockier than is implied here. I had the impression there wasn't much for when things go terribly wrong in the here and now. I'd recommend with the caveat that it perhaps errs on the side of 'things will be okay' without giving more context for tougher times. I'd still buy it though.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers or ARC.

"God Cares When I'm Afraid" is a gentle book that introduces children to the concept of fear in a friendly, God-centric manner. Omartian helps little ones understand that fear is a natural response to overwhelming or frightening situations, sounds, or experiences, but they can always turn to God.

God Cares when I'm afraid is an excellent book. Stormie has comprehensively covered each possible scenario of fear from crossing the street, bullies, images and nightmares. Stormie has included some brilliant prayers for children to pray when in these situations.

I told her remember what we read in the book God cares when I am afraid. She was ok mommy. If you have a child that is scared this would be a wonderful addition to your library. I just can not has enough good things without writing a very long post lol. But please download or purchase this book it is a must have. I may end up purchasing this to add to our library.

This is such a great book for teaching young children that fear has a purpose, to recognize fears that are good/healthy versus fears that are bad/unhealthy, and that Jesus wants all people to come to Him, talk to Him, and find comfort in Him any time they are afraid.

"God Cares When I'm Afraid" includes many prayer examples for children, easy to understand text, and beautiful illustrations that are detailed and colorful. Although this book is geared toward children ages 4-8, the lessons in it are inspirational and relevant to people of all ages.

Jesus said, "Let the little Children come to me". Luke 18:16

There are many ways to be afraid. Some fear is good as it can keep you safe and other fear can lead us not to love God or others well. This colorfully illustrated book shares what fear is. How it can be helpful and how when we are afraid of the good things, what we must do to overcome.

If your child struggles with the emotion of fear, this may be a good resource to open up about what do with fear and in the process develop deep relationships.

God Cares When I’m Afraid is a new children’s book by Stormie Omartian. I really like the first line, "Every little boy and girl can be afraid about something at some time." This is something that everyone needs to hear. It also explains that there is good fear and bad fear. Good fear keeps you safe, such as being afraid of a large dog or someone who has hurt you. Bad fear are things like nightmares or fear that there is someone under your bed. The book gives suggestions of what to do when you are afraid, and tells the reader/listener that you can always talk to God to help you get over your fear, or bring someone into your life to help you deal with your fear. No matter what our fear is, she stresses that God cares and that God is present. God hears the prayers of little children no matter how little. My biggest issue with this book was the font. Words were highlighted and printed in different colours. I did not see any rhyme or reason for this and it was quite distracting to me as the reader. When I read this to my grandson, he listened attentively as he does have a lot of fears. We talked about the suggestions and he said he would try them. He doesn't pray when he is afraid, but he said he would try talking to God when he is scared. Overall, there is a lot to like about this book.

Thank you NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. This is a good book for preschool and elementary aged kids. The book helps explain that fear can be both a good and a bad thing and the author explains the difference in a way that is easy for kids to understand. While I thought the author did a good job with a hard subject, I feel like for kids who have had bad things happen to them, they'll feel a bit forgotten. This is a good book for kids who have everyday fears but might fall flat for kids who have had bad things happen to them.

What a wonderful reminder for parents and children; to know that God cares for all of us when we are afraid. The book deals with different scenarios in a child's life that could cause them to be fearful and points them to the God who knows all and loves them deeply. As a grandmother, I would feel privileged to share the biblical truths of God as presented in this book with my own family. It would also make an excellent gift for new parents and church libraries.
I received this book through Netgalley. Opinions and thoughts are my own.
