This was a decent read. I am a little newer in my journey but I just didn’t care as much for the writing style/presentation of the information. More of a personal preference, not saying the content is incorrect or not good. Just not really my style. I appreciate the things I did learn from this read though. I appreciate the complimentary copy to read for a review!
Anchored in Jesus by Johnny Hunt is a great book for any Christian looking to deepen the relationship with Jesus.
The books description says:
Anchored in Jesus explores what it means to have a living relationship with Christ—and how that is the key to growing strong as a believer. As you explore who Jesus is and what He has done for you, the Lord will work in your life so that you reflect His character more and more. You “bear much fruit” when you live closely to Jesus and exhibit the same kind of love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, and self-control He modeled.
This book has helped me to fix my eyes on Jesus. I recommend this book be in every Church library especially for those who are newer in their faith.
Author, Johnny Hunt had some good points about how to stay anchored in Jesus, but I felt a good majority of all that he talked about, I already knew. This book is a good for someone who is beginning in their walk with God and wanting to know more about staying anchored in their faith in Him.
I graciously received an advance e-copy from netgalley for a review. All opinions are my own.
"Anchored in Jesus" by Johnny Hunt teaches us to hold on to truth in a drifting world. It shows us how to have a living relationship with Christ - the key to growing strong in faith as believers. Jesus calls us to trust and draw near to Him. He wants us to know Him and be known by Him. As we study the character of Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross for us, He enables us to reflect His image more closely and bear the fruits of the Spirit. As we anchor ourselves in Jesus, He transforms us into His likeness. I highly recommend this inspiring book for all believers who desire to draw close to Jesus and be conformed into His image.
A Few Good Points. A Few Troubling Ones. Standard Johnny Hunt. Full disclosure up front: I've been in a few crowds Johnny Hunt has preached to, and some relatives have been members of First Baptist Woodstock, where he preaches. So I know most of Johnny's story, what he believes, and his style. And this book is effectively sitting through a month or two of his sermons - each chapter tends to sound nearly identical to a given weekly sermon, in at least two instances complete with the Sinner's Prayer. And that is why I can't rate this book any higher, yet also don't feel comfortable rating it any lower. Conservative American Evangelical Christians will likely hit this book with 5*, the further away you are from that group, the lower your rating will likely be. Overall he does in fact make some solid points, he just does it in the lazy country preacher style I've known him to employ for the last 20 yrs - which works well in a region that 20 yrs ago still composed a fair amount of farmland, despite being in the middle of Metro Atlanta's northward surge. Recommended, just do your own research any time he makes a claim.
Review Title: Ever Steady Anchor (review of Anchored in Jesus: Holding on to Truth in a Drifting World by Johnny Hunt)

***** 5 Stars
The author, Pastor Johnny Hunt, writes in an approachable friendly style that will appeal to many. For those who may have felt Christianity to be an exercise in cerebral stretches beyond the reach of ordinary folks, Pastor Hunt makes the most important basics of the faith instantly understandable.
From his own life story of knowing nothing about Jesus while he was caught up as a young man in pool hall gambling and drinking, he shows the difference Jesus makes once He takes up residence in a willing heart. His story of transformation compels people to rethink any misconceptions they may have about Jesus. Those who are caught up in addictive lifestyles will find hope for release from their bonds in this book.
Pastor Hunt explains the Christian faith in a loving way so people will feel accepted and in God's favor where He finds them. As Pastor Hunt has been released from shame and has been made useful for God's work in this needy broken world, so can anyone. Readers will find a great reward for reading this book as they discover the simple truths of God that lead to release from the grip of sin.
Several times the book specifically addresses an audience of men. Many Christian books are written directly for an audience of Christian woman. Fewer are written for men. The book, as it covers the important basics of being Christian, meets the needs of both men and women. Thankfully men can read this and feel cared about equally by Christian publishers as they, too, deserve. Men will feel a challenge to be all in for Jesus and live up to their spiritual calling and potential.
All ages will benefit from reading and applying the information in the book to their lives. That said, the book has a great message for senior Christians who may have felt sidelined in youth oriented churches. The older Christians may be on the cusp of meeting their purpose in full as they continue to go full speed ahead paced with Jesus at the helm of their lives. This is such a hopeful and all inclusive message that many need to hear to refocus for usefulness in kingdom building work. Christian senior groups have a great new resource in this book to energize them to more than they could think or imagine because they join with God and let Him do great things through them.
