Mayor Robert Davenport has aspirations to become the governor when his term ends, and his campaign manager advises him to get close to his opponents reformed wild child daughter Adeline Blake to get information.
Adeline has turned a new leaf and is now living a respectable life as an event planner, though hiding in plain sight from her father.
I am a huge fan of Lauren Layne books and get them even without reading the blurb. This was a well written and well paced book but I didn’t find it as tough to put down as her other books. It was a fun read with wit and humor and some sexy chemistry and on its own it was a nice enough read but as a Lauren Layne I expected more. Having said that will I read the next in the series ? Absolutely

If you like Lauren Layne, you’ll like the first novel in this new series. Yours in Scandal is about a super young, handsome mayor of New York who has long-term political aspirations. But of course they are threatened when he falls for someone who has a very public scandalous past. I liked that Layne stuck with her usual NYC setting but moved into the world of politics. I’ll definitely read more in this series.

Yours in Scandal grabs your interest immediately! The Man of the Year is going to be another amazing Lauren Layne series. Hero Robert’s reaction each time his moniker of Man of the Year is mentioned endeared him to me as the reader.

You know Robert and Adeline’s relationship is kind of a ticking, fictional time bomb from the moment she is brought into the mayor’s life. Robert is in the family business of politics. Adeline’s father is his political rival. Yet, Robert and Adeline click immediately.

Adeline/Addie is the product of horrible parenting. Instead of rising above it, she suffered through it badly. Then, disappears from the New York skyline. Robert’s campaign manager smells a story and wants to use her to get to her father.

This is truly one of gripping page turners. You sympathize for Addie and all she went through with her father. You, also, see Robert as the man you would most like to meet. He is loyal, honest, kind and extremely good looking. That is what drew Addie to him, too. She wasn’t quite sure if she should trust him at first, but deep down, she already did.

Love the ending. Yes, these two deserve a HEA like no other couple!

Yours in Scandal is adorable, lighthearted and fun. Robert Davenport is the mayor of NY who aiming for the governor position. Robert’s campaign manager advised him to find some dirt on the opponent’s daughter. Adeline has some scandalous past but she since changed her life. She is living a more respectable quiet life working as an event planner. I don’t normally like the political theme at all but this one is full of humor and romance. Pure entertainment.

A clandestine relationship between a straight-laced, hot politician and the wild child daughter of his political opponent? Yes please, may I have some more?

Lauren Layne does it again.

A romance between an honest politician and a former “bad” girl.

Robert is the mayor of New York City and has just been named Man of the Year, a title that he’s not too pleased with. His second term as mayor is slowly coming to an end and he’s planning to place a bid for governor. His campaign manager has the brilliant idea that he should get close to his opponent’s scandalous daughter who fell off the grid a few years ago in order to dig some dirt on him. Adeline Blake left her old life, changed her appearance and has been hiding in plain sight as an event planner. Robert needs someone to plan an event for him thus bringing Adeline into his life.

This is the type of book that you read in one sitting when you’re in the mood for a romance. This was my first book by Lauren Layne and it won’t be my last.

Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Lauren Layne is one of my favorites, her books are easy to dive into, heavy on the banter and chemistry, and always super enjoyable!

Robert and Addie have sparks flying from the moment they met, but their transition from client-employer to a relationship, was slow and steady! They both needed to be able to let their hair down and truly be themselves and were able to do this with each other.

While there was angst and drama, because neither was particularly honest with each other about why they met or who she really was, I did appreciate that they were able to discuss it like adults rather than petulant teenagers! One of my biggest pet peeves in a romance is when the main characters break up over something that fairly insignificant – it just doesn’t seem realistic to me!

All in all another very successful, very enjoyable romance from Lauren Layne! I’m so looking forward to the next one in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

A short but sweet read. I have a hard time with plots that center around manipulation or lies but I generally enjoy books by Layne so I was willing to truly give this one a chance. I am glad I did because overall I enjoyed this book although the lies were all fogiven a bit too easily in my opinion. I liked both characters and found their back stories interesting. I just wish it had been longer. The ending was abrupt and a bit silly but it was still a couple hours well spent.

First things first- I *adore* author Lauren Layne. I love this genre. I happily read everything LL writes. Now for the sad news- this is not her best work. Don't get me wrong- this was a nice read, but LL's books are normally fun and feisty and smart and sassy- and this book was not any of those.

Beyond that, my biggest issue with this book is that it uses a trope that I *hate*..... MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW...

.... The trope that I hate is the whole "This whole relationship is built on a lie and the truth is not confessed until we are deeply involved- way past the time we should have been open and honest with each other" trope. Ugh. The secret isn't discovered until 75% into the book, but by 78% the huge lie is mostly forgiven. What??? I'm sorry... I just don't feel like the quality of this book matches what I've come to expect from this amazing author.

Nonetheless, I so appreciate the opportunity I was given by the author and publisher to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion, which I'm always happy to give. #NetGalley #YoursInScandal

Great story and characters, I read it in one sitting because the story kept me hooked and entertained, all the way through the end.

Robert is finishing up his second term as one of New York City's youngest and most successful mayors. He's got his eye on the Governor's mansion next with the eventual destination of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He needs inside information on his next opponent so he engineers a meeting with the Governor's estranged daughter, Addie. She is trying to distance herself from her father and leave behind her wild-child reputation.

I really wanted to love this book. I'm all for a political romance and this book had all the right elements. Unfortunately, it just did not deliver for me. I would describe it as an extremely slow burn. The push-pull between Robert and Addie continues for the first 63% of the book before there's a break through. Then the ending just seemed rushed.

I had a hard time connecting to the characters. It was clear from page one that Addie was estranged from her father and he is a bad guy. But, there's really no explanation of how bad he is until the final pages of the book. Because of that, its hard to hate him and feel empathy for what Addie has gone through. So much of the book is spent on the push-pull between Addie and Robert that there is no investment in them as a couple. When they got together, I didn't really feel anything because their relationship had not been built up.

New York City Mayor, Robert Davenport, is considering a run for governor. But, Robert may have a hard time beating the current governor unless he can find proof of the scandals he's rumored to be involved in. Robert's campaign manager tells him the perfect place to get dirt on the governor is to befriend his daughter. She was a wild child disowned by her father who has returned in disguise as a premier event planner.

Adeline Blake just wants to do a great job as an event planner and pretend that she isn't her father's daughter. Her disgust for him was what caused her to act out in the beginning but it was self destructive and she knows better now. Robert doesn't like the idea of using Addie but things snowball until their relationship is real. Great story!

Note: I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Truth be told, Lauren Layne is pretty much an auto-read author for me - meaning that chances are high that I'm going to buy her books even without reading the sample (something I rarely do). I was excited to see LL coming out with a new series and think Yours in Scandal is a great one to kick things off with.

In true LL fashion, the series is based in NYC and each book will feature an MC that is named Citizen magazine’s "Man of the Year". Yours in Scandal features Robert Davenport, who is NYC's current mayor vying for a bid for the governor’s seat. The female MC is Adeline Blake, daughter of the current governor and future revile of Robert's.

I loved both Adeline and Robert as lead MCs. It was a breath of fresh air to have a male MC that was not a player or someone who slept around. Robert was a true gentleman and not at all a playboy. This is a bit atypical in romance and I really liked that LL decided to go this route.

Adeline was a great counterpart to Robert - strong and smart. I liked that she was a bit of a bad girl but was working to reform her ways. I loved that she was doing all she could to make a name for herself and getting away from the horrible man her father was.

All in all, I enjoyed the banter and build up to the romance between Adeline and Robert. There was a slow build and a bit of reluctance on both ends and it was definitely worth it.

I can't wait to see what LL has in store for us next!

Ok so I went a little back and forth with this one. I liked Robert and I like Addie/Adeline and was going good rooting for them and then got infuriated, why well Addie was trying to not like him and she says she would set him up with one of her bestie Rosalie and he was kind of offended, yup got that and then Rosalie tells her she does not want one of her rejects because she knew her friend Addie liked Robert. So Robert was a wus and kind of let others push him to do things he didn't care much about, so his disgusting pushy Campaign manager tells him to go out with someone like Rosalie that she would be good for him and to get him votes he proving that he was not after Addie, textes her for her friends number- I lost all respect for him, then goes out not 1 nor 2 but 3 dates with her supposed Bestie- now remember this was the same friend that told her that she knew she liked him, but all of a sudden she didn't know?! really and then I lost all respect for Addie when she just lets it go like nothing-yup I almost stopped there, had to really make myself continue because by then wasn't really liking these guys, anywho I continued and did enjoy still wished that Addie was a little stronger I mean she left her dad who was scum, she started a new life so she was stronger but was a pushover with Robert- he used her, lied to her and she lets it go. He lets her walk out because he chose politics over her and then apologizes and done..I would have given it four stars but for those reasons I gave it a three which to me was more than fair since I could have given it a 2.

I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
I liked it. Addie was complex and interesting, as was Robert. I liked their dynamic together however I felt it was kinda a trope for her to just dismiss his lying because he “wanted her in spite of her past/reputation.” Especially when the past and reputation were due to abuse. Something about it just doesn’t sit right. I would have liked more if she froze him out for a bit and then when she realizes her own history was abusive, he could come around to her history doesn’t matter to his future anyways. I just hated that she had held herself back because of her past which all stemmed from her abusive and sick father.

Okay, so Lauren Layne is quite literally one of my favourite authors. There is not a book of hers that I have read (as of yet) that I have disliked. And this was definitely like the rest of her novels. That is to say, absolutely wonderful! Everything from the characters, to the romance, to the storyline and plotting itself - I LOVED!! Lauren Layne has a knack for writing equally wonderful heroes and heroines that you SO want to see be happy and fulfilled and with each other.

Characters:
Addie/Adeline - I genuinely really enjoyed reading alongside Addie through all her highs and lows, as she fights to move on from her past and towards her own future. She’s this determined, loving and tenacious heroine who is so talented in what she’s done and is truly, nobody’s fool.
As for Robert? What can I say? Other than that he was the perfect match for Addie in every way and that they truly balanced each other out. Robert is one of the ‘good guys’ in politics and I really admired his spirit and his integrity throughout the novel, particularly towards the end. Addie and Robert worked perfectly together and throughout the novel, Lauren Layne just really draws you and gets you to root for them.

Storyline and Plotting:
Yours in Scandal takes place in the world of politics - of higher office, a bit of intrigue, strategy and image. And therein lies the crux of the challenges that face our two protagonists. Image.
On the whole - I found the plotting and the writing in general to be really well done. Quite an original plot - a politician falling for his rival’s daughter (but not quite in a Romeo and Juliet star crossed lovers way) and one that worked wonderfully.

Overall:
Nothing but praise. Honestly - a wonderful read!

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for letting me read and review!

I love Lauren Layne and this one felt so much like some of her older stories. I love the strong female character who does hard thing and sticks to her guns. That thread of determination and solid friendship is part of why I consume most everything she writes. I really enjoyed how she wove some NYC history into the story this time. Her love for the city definitely shines in her writing. If you like contemporary romance that reads quick and easy, but lets you really love the characters, this is for you.
