Anna Neale, 19 years old, she is a bold and independent, seeking adventure.
Anne is young girl on the cusp of the suffragette movement, this storyline takes place as she matures to adulthood from the years 1913 to 1947, from Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, England to Toronto, Canada to Chicago, United States.
The takes off when a 19 year old Anna Neale is employed as a front desk clerk at the Sackville Hotel, Bexhill-on-Sea. Anna has never wanted to marry, she instead of dreams of traveling abroad to exotic places. Wanting to follow in her Uncle Bertie’s footsteps.
This is time when woman’s reputation we’re on the line, and you would never even consider traveling alone unaccompanied without a chaperoned.
In a series of events, Anne develops a friendship between Alex, and Bill, two mutual friends.
In this wonderful drama intense novel, the authors storyline is inspired by her real grandmother Anne (Nancy) Walker. Adding actual events and adding a creative twist.
This captivating author plots a character driven romance that fights poignancy through the complex conflicts of fate. I devoured this one as fast as I could and was completely drawn into the lives of these characters. I turned those pages as fast as I could and then slowly took in all the depth and layers to the characters.

We follow Anna Neale, 19 years old as she navigates being an independent, adventurous woman during the start of the suffragette movement to her adulthood in Susan A. Jennings’ “The Blue Pendant.”
The book covers the years from 1913-1947 from Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, England to Toronto, Canada to Chicago, United States; it begins when a 19 year old Anna Neale is employed as a front desk clerk at the Sackville Hotel, Bexhill-on-Sea. Anna never wanted to marry, she had dreams of traveling to exotic places, like India following her Uncle Bertie’s footsteps. In those times, without money, it wasn’t proper for a woman to travel unchaperoned. Instead, Anna’s friendships with best friends’ Alex, and Bill, becomes complicated as a love triangle develops. Life takes an unexpected turn as Anna falls in love with both Alex, and Bill and is forced to choose between them.
I enjoyed following Anna through her life and the challenges she overcomes from her boss’s inappropriate sexual harrassment/assault, to the struggle of balancing life, love, friendship, marriage, motherhood, family, independence, compromise, sacrifice, self-doubt, and pursuit of traveling. It puts into perspective how far, yet not much difference women’s rights have made from the start of the 20th century to today. Anna’s resiliency is a testament of women’s strength. This book is inspired by the Susan A. Jennings real grandmother Anne (Nancy) Walker, but some of the actual events have been a figment of the author’s imagination.
I enjoyed reading this book. It did not take me very long to read, and I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the characters and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen to them. I loved experiencing the characters develop and grown throughout the story. The book was well written, and I found myself getting captured in the story.
It’s 1913 and times are changing, but not fast enough for nineteen-year-old Anna as she dares to seek adventurous independence. Inspired by her uncle and his gift of a blue pendant from India. When I started reading I couldn't put it down.Susan A. Jennings is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.
