Helpful to help baby with signs and how to communicate with a child who is pre or nonverbal. An enjoyable read that has helped me communicate better with my own children.
Although I do not have any young children( my son is thirteen), I am a pre-k teacher. The children I teach are four to five years of age. “The Complete Guide to Baby Sign Language” is not just for babies, although there are so many benefits to baby signing at birth. It is also great for older children as well as those just starting out with ASL. Everyone can benefit from this book. I appreciated how detailed and organized it was. Including the songs was a super nice touch. I can not recommend this book enough. Hopefully one day I will add the physical copy to my collection for easier reference.
This is a wonderful book that is well illustrated and organized. As the title indicates there are over 200 signs for you to learn and teach to young children. There is a chapter on tips for remembering sign and also a chapter on songs to learn. It's proven that babies and young children absorb and learn languages early and learning sign language is a great step to becoming bi-lingual. It's great for older children and adults as well. The pictures of the children in the book are so cute. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is such a great addition to a parent's toolkit! Don't look at it as one more chore to be accomplished, but as a way to communicate in a more deliberate, less haphazard way than will otherwise occur (at least until they learn to speak).
As a first time new mother, I think this book is super helpful for future use. The drawings/pictures showing the different signs for basic words and how to perform them, are great. They give you "Memory Tips" to help you remember the sign, "When to Use the Sign" and "What to Look For" with your little one. I look forward to practicing sign language with my child once he's a little bit older and see if it helps with communicating with him.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an e-arc and give my honest review.
Amazing book with incredible detail. I’ve always wanted to learn signing for the toddlers in my life, this is the perfect book to start with.
I've been searching for a book like this for a year and am happy to say it suits my needs perfectly. I have a little one in my life with some hearing problems and speech delays and want to be able to communicate more directly with her, while also learning a few signs in advance so I'm not constantly catching up. Baby Sign just wasn't doing it for me, though it is a great series. Highly recommended for those who prefer the print way of learning.
