I’m not one to read celebrity memoirs but this was a good one to read. It was interesting at how Andrea didn’t throw shade at anyone and truly just lived life as she could in the moments that she went through. This was a pleasant read.
Being a fan of Full House and Fuller House as well this was a must read for me. A lot of people don't really think about celebrities having real lives. They go through depression and divorce just like the rest of us. I loved reading about Andrea Barbers life from stardom to college and back. The title is perfect for this book. Kimmy will always be a favorite of mine. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Like 98% of the free world, I am familiar with Full House. I didn't watch it the first go around, but my daughter loved the reruns. I remember the Kimmy Gibler character; much like Steve Urkel and Kramer, she was meant to add to the comic relief as the goofy neighbor, and she did her job. I enjoyed reading this, hearing about her time in Hollywood, but equally enjoyed just hearing about her "real life." She doesn't throw shade at anyone, including her ex-husband, and seems to truly enjoy her life. I'd like to see her do more things that make her happy, even if it is not acting.
Ms. Barber grabbed my attention right from the start. It was interesting to learn how she shies away from stardom even though she has become such an iconic character (Kimmy Gibbler). When Fuller House first debuted I wondered what she had been up to since Full House ended, this book answered that question and so much more. I feel like I got to know the real Ms. Barber through this book. I found it interesting to learn that acting was not her main passion and that she has pursued other job opportunities. She shares her story with what felt like raw honesty, while parts of the book could be heavy and depressing, she adds in just the right amount of humor at the appropriate places that helped me not feel weighed down by her struggles and I knew that she would overcome. While it pained me to learn about the struggles with anxiety Ms. Barber deals with, I am glad that she was willing to put her story out there. I am sure she will touch many people through this book. The way this book is written made me feel like I was sitting down with her having a one on one conversation. She covers so many aspects of her life - love, heartbreak, friendship, family, fame, finding a place in the world and mental health. This book is not only for Full House fans. I would recommend it to anyone who struggles with mental health or even just anyone who is going through trying times. This book will give encouragement to continue fighting.
Loved it! Great book with a real voice in the pages. Lots of interesting reading and stories keep you entertained.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was pleasantly surprised by this memoir! Andrea Barber is lovely and a fantastic writer. I enjoyed reading about her life.
I wanted to like this book but it felt like it was an ok read. Decent memoir but I was looking for more out of it.
Kimmy from Full House is all grow up. Kimmy was always my favorite character from the show Full house, which was a show I pretty much grew up with. So it was neat to read Andrea's story in her own words.
This book had potential, but I feel like it got overshadowed by the college admissions scandal. Maybe in a few years, she could re-release this book and include her opinions and thoughts on the scandal.
Kimmy Kibler was a staple on my TV as a kid. I thought this Full House actress would be a light hearted funny red, but this was more of an honest inside look at the real life of an actor that survived a hit show and life's challenges after. I t was thoughtful and lots of good advice was shared.
I enjoyed this one! I am a Full House fan and grew up with DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy Gibbler. I've read the autobiographies from Candace Cameron and Jodie Sweetin, so it just made sense to read this one as well. There were some great behind the scenes takes of how the cast felt like family. Warning - there's nothing salacious there!
One thing we didn't know about though was what happened after Andrea stopped acting. We find out what happened between Full House and Fuller House, including her struggle with anxiety and depression. Having been through social anxiety, I related to Andrea more than I wanted to.
This was a fast and interesting read for all fans of FH!
Being a huge fan of Full House and Fuller House i was so excited for this book. It was great to get a glimpse into Kimmy Giblers world
5 Stars ( I received an e-arc from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review)
I actually ended up listening to the audiobook since the author narrated her own book, and this was such a fun experience. When Full House was originally it was before I was born, but I grew up watching reruns after school and sometimes on throwback tv channels in elementary/middle school. Kimmy Gibler was one of my favourite characters and getting to know more about the amazing person Andrea is, was an experience of pure joy. Going through her early acting experience on a soap opera, her first Full House experience, college, getting married, having children, getting divorced, becoming an avid runner and Fuller House. Interwoven within the story is her lifelong struggle with generalized anxiety disorder, something that wasn’t really known about in the 80’s and 90’s. As well her close relationships with her Full House cast-mates and how the young female cast has now become the older mentors that the main three male leads were in the original. Also I loved the tidbit that John Stamos still mostly refers to Andrea as Gibler pretty much all the time and how Canadace and Jodie helped her learn how the entertainment industry changed since she was in the public eye. Her love of running that developed as a coping mechanism during her divorce. The cherry on top is getting to hear this from the actress herself and in some situations you can hear her voice getting emotional when recounting her difficult times.
Getting the know the woman behind Kimmy Gibbler was an experience in and of itself. I never expected her to be so well-versed given her character on the show. I was so glad she felt confident enough to write of her struggles both on and off-set to give us some insight into Andrea Barber, instead of just Kimmy Gibbler.
I don't usually read biographies or autobiographies. The ones that I have read are usually from people that grew up in a different era. Reading Full Circle was a completely different experience. Andrea Barber is only a few years older than I am, so a lot of things she mentions were the same for me from a love of NKOTB (I had the bedsheets too) to a variety of other 90's things that I just can't think of at the moment.
She has a way with words that made this engaging and very easy to read, even when she was writing about the more difficult topics like her anxiety. I enjoyed hearing about her experiences on the sets and her relationships with her castmates.
This was such a good read. As someone who grew up watching Full House, getting to know Andrea better was really interesting. I had no idea Andrea had gone through the struggles she has and to see her now on the other side was really inspiring. This was a quick easy read and it flowed really well. If you love Full House or Fuller House, you do not want to miss this read!
I received this book this book through NetGalley and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
Full Circle is a 2.5 star book for me. The points in the book where is she honest and frank about her anxiety and depression are wonderfully written and give great insight into what she was struggling through.
The rest of the book is fluff, and the writing is rather bland and simply done. Andrea Barber has lived a sheltered life, which is absolutely fine, it just doesn't make for much of an interesting or insightful read.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC for an honest opinion.
Full Circle: From Hollywood to Real Life and Back Again is an inspiring look at Andrea Barber's life. After reading this book, I have found that I just love her and find her admirable.
Five stars.
This book was so fun! I grew up watching Full House, and while Stephanie was my homegirl, it was super fun to read a book my Kimmie Gibbler! She has a very easy way of writing that feels like you are talking to a friend. It was not hard at all to follow along, and she was humorous and a good story teller. This book is a fun must read for anyone like me who was a child of the 80s and 90s!
Barber’s autobiography is a truly open whilst at the same time, keeping enough of herself held back to prevent this from being a tell all scathing novel.
The Full House actress has dealt with anxiety and depression most of her life and although she comes from a stable family, the book shows how even the sanest of existence can lead to mental in capabilities when dealing with day to day. Her honest and sometimes brutal insight to her condition is totally refreshing in its approach. At times, the book does repeat itself to the point of distraction but it does come from a place where she addresses the issues at hand.
Her life after the demise of Full House is actually more interesting that the show itself. Her accomplishments are awe inspiring. Her university and career choices are truly commendable and her life goals are truly accomplished.
Her continued years as a mother are interesting and although sometimes she tends to be a little hard on herself, she should be recognised for all that she has done and the extremely great parenting that she has been able to give considering what she had to overcome. Of course, this does come at a price as her marriage but she did overcome this in the long run.
The most interesting is that she was able to recognise her condition after a period of time and search for ways to overcome this outside of pharmaceutical drugs which are words of inspiration. Managing exercise and controlling techniques to over come her anxiety and depression whilst at the same time, finding a therapist that suits her are words of wisdom that should help anyone to overcome this condition
Overall, this is an enjoyable read from a woman in the limelight to having a successful career outside of Hollywood. Coming back to the limelight, with the world of technology has given new meaning of what celebrity means and embracing this on her own terms. This is a book that should be read and a great many lessons are learned within its pages.
