4.5 stars. I adored the first book in this series, so I couldn't wait to dive into this. I loved the psychological aspects of this one - Abraham wrestling with his quiet, shy personality and how he felt about himself in that regard - Emma's personality quirks. Emma's made her hard to like at times, but I enjoyed her evolution through the course of the book.
I love the whole premise of this series with the twin boys trying to match make their older brothers. There were MANY laugh-out-loud moments in this one which added to my enjoyment of the overall story. I can't wait to read book three!
My favorite twins are at again in the second book in The Petersheim Brothers series by Jennifer Beckstrand. The twins are livid about having to sleep in the cellar and slightly afraid down there but when your home is filled with family and limited bedrooms, they have no choice. They have reached the conclusion if there are fewer people needing a room, they will eventually get theirs back, so the plans begin to marry off their older brothers.
The hilarity begins again when the boys decide to find Abraham a wife, it worked with Andrew so why not try again? So, Alfie and Benjie spring into action and try their hands at matchmaking once more by setting up the shy Abraham with the popular Emma. The twins plans always seem to go awry and so far have included their funny neighbor Bitsy, animals and their unwitting Dawdi.
The adventure the twins go on to help their brother find true love and getting themselves out of their cellar bedroom is quite entertaining with several laugh out loud moments.
I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for her readers next and if the twins will finally get out of that scary old cellar. Ms. Beckstrand has quickly become one of my must read authors because I love her humorous writing, lovable characters and her books are always suitable for readers of all ages.
I received a copy from the publisher through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Abraham is a very well written inspirational romance. Great plot with fun characters. I throughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. My thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
Tall, handsome, strong, shy, kind. Seriously? Could Abraham be any more appealing? Oh, did I mention that he loves his little brothers and helps his mom clean the house?
After reading Andrew, I knew that I had to read everything Jennifer Beckstrand writes about these brothers, especially Alfie and Benji! Those nine-year-olds are too precious and way too precocious for everyone's good. And they are back in a big way, causing trouble for Abraham in the name of love for their brother - and the desire to get released from the cellar.
No!
Not in that way!
It has been their room since their Mammi and Dawdi came to live with them. And they are really tired of sleeping with the spiders. (Just a note, Abraham at one point referred to how lucky they were to be able to sleep there with the spiders - it is like a cave! I cracked up at this!! Well, I may have been cracking up through lots of the story.) So their plan is to get their older brothers married off so they can move back upstairs.
I was not a bit disappointed with this story. Alfie and Benji were back to their tricks, this time, assisted by a stray dog they found (and named Tintin). As they confounded Emma with how Tintin could have gotten into her chicken coop, their antics continued.
While I loved Abraham and his faith and the way he exhibited the fruit of the spirit (except to Perry Glick), Emma was not quite as loveable. She was actually self-centered and proud. She did have some good qualities other than her beauty but really did think about herself far more than she should. The way she treated Abraham in her desire to not embarrass herself was horrid, especially after he had done the nicest things for her.
But don't despair! This was necessary for the story. After all, Abraham needed a wife who was worthy to be a helpmate to him. Though he felt he was not good enough for Emma, she, in fact, was not good enough for him.
Abraham is a story of changed lives, of discovering priorities. And of adorable little boys who know enough to be dangerous!
If you enjoy humorous and romantic stories, especially those with cute children, you won't want to miss this wonderful story.
Love becomes deeper and stronger when you have to fight for it.
This is one of the sweetest romances I have read in a long time. Two nine year old Amish boys have a plan to get out of the basement where they know for sure they will die unless their older brother Abraham marries. These sweet conniving boys married one brother and if they marry this one, they will have his bedroom free of spiders and the like. With the help of a stray dog, the boys set their sights on Emma. A neighbor who likes the attention of boys and her chickens. Emma is not interested in being someone's frau but she does like the attention of the boys that are looking for a frau.
Abraham is unassuming so when Emma under the manipulation of Abraham's brothers gets her feather's rifled up because of the twin's dog getting into Emma's chicken coop, Abraham steps in to save the dog, the chickens and letting boys be boys. Abraham will do anything for Emma. He sees the good in Emma even though she likes the attention of the boys, he sees her kindness and laughter. Emma sees Abraham as a bore until they spend some time together around Emma's prized chickens. A love shift begins filled with tension, humor, and the realization of what love really is.
I enjoyed the shenanigans of the twins, Abraham's gentle and firm way, and the change of Emma as she realizes the affection of many boys is nothing compared to the devotion of one. A sweet romance for sure.
A Special Thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review
The Petersheim's twins are at it again, to marry off their second oldest of their brothers in hopes of getting out of the basement. The adventures of living in the basement and a full house are entertaining in the eyes of the Petersheim's twins.
Abraham is shy and barely talk to girls. Having to straighten out his twin brothers mischievous activity at Emma Wengerd's chicken coop, Abraham find himself in Emma's presence more than he's planned.
What do the twins have up their sleeves for their brother Abraham?
Who comes along for the added mischief?
Will Mom Petersheim find out the twins's secret?
"Abraham" by Jennifer Beckstrand is hilarious with serious parts too; just like life. I didn't want to put my Kindle down because I wanted to know what the twins were up to next. I look forward to reading "Austin" in June.
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This is my honest review in my own words.
Book 2 of the Petersheim Brothers series did not disappoint. I was entertained from word one. The twins continue to be adorable, endearing and up to no good.
I love all the characters in this book. I even enjoyed catching up with a few characters from previous books by the author.
Although the twins can’t and have come up with some outrageous schemes the author keeps the characters and the storyline realistic and relatable. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Abraham is a wonderful addition to The Petersheim Brothers series. In this story, we meet Abraham, the shy, middle oldest brother. He loves working to make the family peanut butter.
Again we get to revisit to 9-year-old twin brothers. Their mission is to get out of sleeping in the basement. In order to do this, Abraham needs to get marries and move out of the house so they can have his room. The idea candidate for Abraham to marry is their neighbor, Emma. This is pretty impossible since Emma is really outgoing and loves to talk and Abraham never says anything.
The only thing they seem to have in common is Chickens...
Will Emma and Abraham ever find a path to each other, even with the help of the twins?
I would give this story 5 stars and recommend it and the whole series.
I was given an ARC by the publisher through Neaglley for my honest review.
Abraham by Jennifer Beckstrand is the second in the Petersheim Brothers series. Having read the first in the series I was excited to read this one. I was not disappointed. Beckstrand has the perfect knack of writing Amish romance stories.
When Abraham's younger twin brothers decide it's time to find shy Abraham a girlfriend while doing this behind his back, it's on. Then, thrown in a dog they have been keeping a secret from everyone but Abraham and you get a well written story with humor and real life ups and downs. .Add the ongoing story of their family life adjusting to their grandparents moving in and you get the perfect story.
I was given an ARC by Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.
Abraham is the second installment from Jennifer Beckstrand’s series, The Petersheim Brothers. I enjoyed the first book, Andrew, and enjoyed this one so much more. I t was great catching up with the characters from that book. In this book, we get a better look at the shy Petersheim brother, Abraham. Once again, the mischievous twins want to set up one their brothers with someone. They choose Emma. The events that follow turns into fun and delightful. I could not help but to laugh out loud at some of the scenes. Even though predictable, I still loved how it all ended.
Abraham is one book that should not be missed. What I thought to be “I will sit right here to read a chapter or two”, turned into “I can not believe I sat here and read the whole book”! I look forward to seeing where the characters are in the third book from The Petersheim Brothers series.
Five Stars.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Forgiveness and second chances follow Abraham's story. I've always loved books by Jennifer.Beckstarnd and this was no exception. With two adorable twin brothers who want nothing more than to get out of the caller, Abraham doesn't stand a chance at not having his love life taken care of as they see fit. Their hearts were in the right place but their tactics lol.
Emma too had to learn lessons the hard way. She was selfish and thought if she behaved a certain way, things would work out the way she wanted. I must admit I didn't like her at first and I was sad she broke Abraham's heart and kind of took him for a ride, but I was happy when she came to her senses.
Abraham too learned lessons in confidence and the fact that you can never hide from your Mamm.
This book was an absolute delight and I'll definitely be looking out for more of the Petersheims.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. All opinions expressed are mine.
Abraham by Jennifer Beckstrand is the second book in her Petersheim Brothers series. Abraham is the second eldest of the Petersheim brothers, fondly known as the Peanut Butter Brothers, so named because of the family business.
The youngest Petersheim brothers are nine-year-old twins, Alfie and Benji, who are totally “laugh out loud” hilarious. They’ve been forced to sleep in the cellar due to a lack of bedrooms, since their grandparents have moved in. Alfie and Benji plan to get their room back by getting their older brothers to marry and move out. They’ve successfully married off their eldest brother, Andrew, and are now working on a plan to link Abraham with local beauty, Emma Wengerd. The twins have their work cut out for them, trying to match quiet, socially awkward Abraham with outgoing, always wants to be the center of attention, Emma.
Abraham is a quick, easy, really good read. Ms. Beckstrand has given more insight into the featured brother, Abraham, who is much different from his brother, Andrew, who was featured in book one. The cast of characters are well-developed and completely relatable. The author gives adequate backstory from book one. As with book one, the writing flows smoothly, and there’s just the right amount of conflict. This is another 5 out of 5 stars endeavor from Jennifer Beckstrand. I recommend this book to all readers of Amish fiction, especially Amish romance.
My thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
We are back with the Petersheim family, and with the precocious nine-year-old twins Benji and Alfi, and also Bitsey and her famous cats.
The author has given us a family whose home is full since their grandparents moved in, and thus the twins are placed in cellar, with nasty spiders, and are in the process of trying to find wives for their older brother, and thus get a bedroom upstairs. Now these boys did manage to find their oldest brother a wife, and now the next in line is Abraham.
We adventure with these two while they go about finding the perfect wife for their bother, with the hopes of getting out of the cellar. The journey brings many chuckles, and page turning, and wanting more! Delightful!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
This is book two of The Petersheim Brothers series. It is a wonderful example of this author's humorous and witty Amish romance books. I love the humor as it makes me laugh out loud. And I love that. We all need to laugh!.
The younger brothers of the family are stuck sleeping in the cellar and will go to great lengths to get the older bros to marry and move out in hopes they will inherit those rooms. The first attempt in book 1 failed and so they are at it again. This time they hope to get quiet Abraham hitched. They have the perfect match, Emma, in mind and are determined that this is going to be the key to moving "up" in the house. But Emma has a lot of suitors. Whatever are they going to do?
I really enjoyed book two and can't wait to see what happens next!
I received an ebook copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
Abraham Petershiem.....oh, what a catch he is, but he just can't seem to get past his shyness and get the maiden he wants! Never fear....enter his twin 9 yr old brothers, Alphie and Benjie....they have found the girl that they feel will be perfect for Abraham and FINALLY, get them out of their basement bedroom!!! The girl is Emma and she has NO desire to court, much less become interested in a young man.....friendship is just a maybe, at this point, in her life. Their antics and the trouble they get into is sure to bring a chuckle and maybe a memory of a brother, in your own life! Sit back, relax, open up the chocolates and get the peanut butter to dip them in and enjoy being a part of a story that will have you hungering for more!! I have long enjoyed Jennifer Beckstrand's novels and this one continues the story of The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill, by reaching out to the community for additional stories. PLUS....a couple of bonus recipes!!
Twins Alphie and Beni mischievous as usual, this time they have a plan. Marry off Abraham, and the reward would be getting his bedroom. Emma is never a loss for words, and he is shy and quiet. Sleeping in the basement, one can. see why they want to get him married. The story is cute, anout family, and finding themselves, and what they want in life, and love. A good second story in the series.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by .net Galley and Kensington
YAWN
Much like the first book in this series, the story is drawn out. To the point where you could skip entire pages and not miss anything. Don't get me wrong, the story line was cute, but it needed more. And I just couldn't wrap my head around a mother who has a spare bedroom and instead of moving her two children who are sleeping in a cold, damp basement, she makes it into a sewing room. I certainly understand the Amish would need a sewing area, but why not put that downstairs and move the boys upstairs? The reality is, she didn't because it would have ended the series. I think this could have been planned out a little better.

Since the arrival of Mammi and Dawdi, nine-year-old twins Alfie and Benjie has to sleep in a spider-infested cellar. They are not happy about it and come up with a mischievous plan to marry off their older brother Abraham so they move into his bedroom. But Abraham is painfully shy and doesn't know how to talk to girls. Still, the twins have noticed how he looks at the most popular girl in town Emma Wengerd. But Emma has no shortage of suitors and a quiet boy like Abraham is not her type. Will the twins succeed in their plan or are they doomed to spend their entire childhood sleeping in the cellar? Abraham by Jennifer Beckstrand is a heartwarming and wonderful story of faith, forgiveness, and second chances. The story is perfectly paced and kept me turning the pages. The twins were hilarious with their antics and had me laughing throughout the entire book. Emma and Abraham's character development was excellent. Their insecurities were relatable and made it very easy to root for them on their bumpy journey to a happy relationship. I fell in love with the Petersheim family and can't wait to read the third book. I have a sneaky suspicion that poor Alfie and Benjie are still stuck in the cellar, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what matchmaking plans they come up with for Austin. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fell in love with the story.
Jennifer ways writes so wonderful story's.
I would love to see more stories of the twin boys. Can't wait for more.
OMG! How can I express my words, this book was perfectly incredible. It made me laugh out loud, gave me all good feels, and made me happy in the end.
Abraham the second son of the Petersheim family is single and has feelings towards Emma Wengerd. He is shy and doesn't talk to girls. But a perfect gentleman. Emma is outward and is popular with boys.
Since the arrival of Mammi and Dawdi Abraham's younger brothers, adorable 9-year-old twins has to sleep in cellar packed with spiders. Alfie and Benjie, the adorable and naughtiest twins want their room back.
The twins come up with a mischievous plan to get Abraham married to Emma so they could have their room back. To execute, the plan they have to buy eggs from Emma's chicken coop and trim Alfie's eyelashes so he could spy easily with binoculars. The efforts taken by twins are immense and laughable.
Benjie is too adorable to ignore and adores all creatures(bugs, ants, and of course, spiders). Alfie is a good partner and the naughtiest of all.
Struck between twins, what springs to Emma and Abraham, is the fun plot.
The book is an excellent example of family, brotherhood, and love. The perfect read for the holiday season and, I highly recommend reading this excellence.
