No Man's Land is the 4th book in the FBR K-9 series by Sara Driscoll. This series features Special Agent Meg Jennings, her K-9 partner, Hawk and the FBI’s Human Scent Evidence Team. While each book can be read as a standalone, the characters and their relationships continue to develop in each book. In this outing, Meg and Hawk are out learning about “Urbexing”, Urban Exploration, with her boyfriend, Todd Webb (EMS firefighter) and his coworker, Chuck Smaill and Urbexer. The sites are run-down buildings, sometimes dangerous, but interesting and extra training for Hawk. While exploring an abandoned asylum, Hawk picks up a scent and finds the body of an elderly woman in an area that would have been impossible for her to reach on her own. After Meg reports the victim, she soon learns that there have been other elderly victims found in urbex sites around the area. It seems that there is nothing linking them except the way they are killed, but when another elderly man disappears, Meg calls in reporter Clay McCord. With is help, the team is able to save the victim, but there is still no motive. Once they figure out a motive, they may be able to find the killer.

I really enjoy this series and this books is another great addition to it. I liked how the storyline was intertwined with urbex information and culture, as I learned about that. The characters are all wonderful in this series. Meg, Todd, Cara and Clay are all regulars and I have gotten to know them well. The secondary characters who are colleagues, friends and family are all well developed and realistic. I love the dogs in these stories as well and have learned a lot about working K-9s. One of the things I really like about this series is the team aspect of the FBI unit as well as utilizing the help of family, friends and of course the dogs. Meg really kicks it up a notch in this book taking chances and facing her fears. I'm not sure if that will continue as it had her as a maverick in this story. No Man's Land is a well written and plotted story, with a motive that was a surprising one. I was once again gripped by this story and am certainly going to continue reading/listening to this series.

I loved it! It is one of those suspenseful books that kept me up too late reading every night. Women in the DC area are being kidnapped and held captive while clues are being sent directly to FBI agent Meg in a challenge for her (and her search and rescue dog Hawk) to find them before they die. All of the victims look eerily like Meg. Putting her job on the line in order to use her friends and family to help her decipher the mysterious clues, Meg and Hawk race against the clock to save the victims and uncover the identity of the kidnapper. There's no need to read the first book in the series, Lone Wolf, but read it anyway because it's also awesome! Thanks to Kensington Publishing, Net Gallery, and Jen J Danna for the opportunity to read "Before It's Too Late".

Hey folks, daddy Steve with some doggibook talk. I finished reading book 4 of the FBI K9 Novels series by Sara Driscoll yesterday. This one was titled No Man’s Land.

Once more, I just loved, loved, LOVED that book. I’ve come to find in this series of book something akin to a good TV series. You know, with a good cast of characters that you care about, with each book representing to me a new season of the show, and with each season, I want to see what else is going to happen to those characters. Sure, there’s Meg and her black lab Hawk but with her there’s Todd, her boyfriend firefighter and paramedic. Then Cara, her sister who’s also a dog trainer and has two more dogs of her own. Oh, and Clay McCord, Cara’s boyfriend who’s an investigative reporter for the Washington Post, but who also has a dog of his own. Get this, his boy is a puppy golden retriever who’s a bit, hrm, active. Makes me think of Malcolm everytime we hear about him...

Every book has had to deal with some sort of serial killing, which makes sense since it’s about the FBI K9 unit. The dogs are not always the main actors but they are always present. I love how the author has Meg and other handlers actually talking to the dogs. You know like « Hawk, come » instead of leaving it unsaid that he simply comes. Those are little things I love in the writing of the series.

Obviously, this is a recommended read, highly recommended even. And the dogs don’t get hurt in these book!!

I would like to give a huge thanks to NetGalley who provided a free eBook advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest review. This is as honest as it gets... I would also like to appologize to Kensington Books for taking so long to review it. This book came out last Fall but I really wanted to read books 1 to 3 before getting to book 4. Really glad I did because now I’m hooked and I want to read book 5 the day it comes out, or before if I can get my hands on a copy. (Hint hint to the fin folks at NetGalley and Kensington Books)

Meg, her K-9 Hawk and boyfriend Todd go out to check out an abandoned building for fun on a day off. Unfortunately Hawk is never off and they discover a dead body. Then another. Someone one is killing the elderly and leaving them in abandoned buildings. Another great book in the series. You can’t go wrong when one of the characters is canine.

My thoughts

Would I recommend it? Yes

Would I read more of this series? Yes, its one of my all time favorite series and I've been reading it ever since the first book came out so of course I'm going to keep read and re reading this series .

Would I read more by this author? Yes

Since the first book came out of this series I've been hooked so of course as soon as I saw this on NetGalley there was no way I wasn't going to read it, right from the very start I was hooked and the characters become some of my all time favorite characters to read and watch as they come to life. With each book the series just keeps getting better and the characters grow and come more into themselves. Another thing I loved about this book was how the author used the history of each place she used in her story that it showed that she did her homework. As well as bring forth what exactly what urban exploring was and she does an excellent job of providing definitions of the terms she uses and how much people love doing it, which was something I had no idea about . With that said I want to thank NetGalley as well as the publisher for letting me read and review it and I can't wait to read more of this series .

This is book 4 in a series and even though I have not read any of the previous books, it was not a problem. This book is about a serial killer who targets senior citizens. Meg and her canine partner, Hawk, for for the FBI's Human Scent Evidence Team. Meg and her boyfriend join an Urbex group that explores abandoned urban properties. They come across the body of an 85 year old woman while exploring an abandoned mental hospital. In trying to find the person's identity, they find that there are several other deaths. They need to find what the connection between these deaths and how are they being targeted.
Great characters and story line and a creative plot. Hawk is a great partner for Meg and they work well together. Urbexing is not something I was previously familiar with and was an interesting topic to learn more about.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow what a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Agent Meg Jennings and her K9 service dog Hawk discovers the body of an old lady in a building she shouldn't have been in. Then more elderly people are found dead. Can these been random deaths or is there a killer on the lose?

I liked the fast pace of the book and found it a quick read with a good plot. I also found the style very interesting with the chapters starting with an explanation of different terminologies. A lot that was unknown to me. I have never heard of Urbexing!

I haven't read any of the other books in the series but will keep en eye out for them.

Thank you to #netgalley and Kensingtonbooks for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Set in the US, the reader is faced with vulnerability, greed, urbex (love this!), survival, rescue – physically and mentally, and a search for the truth.
Another winning read from Sara Driscoll and the K9 series! The opening was tense and had me hooked from the start! The minute Hawk was introduced on the page, I smiled – #GottaLoveHawk! I knew a body would not be far off…and I wasn’t wrong! One of the things I enjoy about this series are the tidbits of facts/information given at the start of each chapter. This may not be to everyones taste – but I absolutely LOVE it! You get a unique insight into the training and techniques used/described in each chapter and when a fictional book can teach me something… well I’m a fan! I loved the storyline – a clever motive had me guessing until it was revealed. Great characterisation where we learn more about the key players in this series and an absolutely fascinating setting/sense of place – I was engrossed from the first page to the last!
Characters are at the core of this novel. Meg and Hawk stealing the show – but just about as Todd Webb (Meg’s EMS fire -fighting boyfriend) and Clay McCord (Cara’s boyfriend) are a close second as we learn more about this pair as the group use their collective skills in the hunt for a killer.
Would I recommend this read? Oh hell yeah! I am hooked on this series – authentic, riveting and clever – No Man’s Land was another gripping read in this addictive series! Can’t wait for the next one – highly recommended! (Each novel is written in a way that they can be read on their own for the story – however, they are SO good – I would definitely recommend you start at the beginning as the character arc(s) and backstories are interesting to watch as each new book is released!)

I'm a big fan of Ms. Driscoll, who has a brilliant talent for squeezing out every drop of empathy from her readers for crafting characters with whom you are immediately empathetic. Exploring deserted (and haunted?) buildings and institutions has always fascinated me, so the premise caught my attention from the beginning. The tension boils and the virtual (Kindle) pages flash by. I loved it! Highly recommended.

*Thanks to both the publisher and the author for allowing me to read an ARC of this book free of charge, in exchange only for an honest review."

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book of this series that I have read. I haven't read the first or third book of the series but believe me I am going to find the time to rectify that because this is one very intense series that will appeal to a lot of readers. A group of FBI agents with lovable furry partners, because how can you not love a series that includes man's best friend, that place themselves in danger to save others. The cast also includes a couple of first responders and an investigative journalist that pitch in with their skills to help solve the case.
I really enjoyed how the author introduced Urbexing, the exploration of abandoned man made buildings, as the crime scenes. Having the crime scenes all taking place in empty derelict buildings really amped up the intensity of the storyline for me. It added an extra level of danger for the characters, all of who are very believable and distinct in personalities.
This book was a very quick read that left me satisfied upon completion and ready to tag along on the team's next case.

What a different K9 team! I loved the action and excitement of this one. Urban settings with lots of new terms and excitement. A well written story with great characters and it didn't feel like a lot of other books on the market! I look forward to reading more from Sara Driscoll!

A new author and series for me, Book 4 won't be the last. Love it when I can learn something new and No Man's Land teaches while it winds a heart-racing mystery around a service animal, search and rescue mystery. Hawk is a black lab and Meg Jennings, part of the FBI's Human Scent Evidence Team.

Meg is off on a weekend, looking to expand Hawk's skills in a new and exciting stage, exploring the ruins of abandoned buildings, long since deserted, left to decay and crumble into life-threatening ruins. Who does that? Apparently, it's a thing though. Who Knew? Urbex. That is, urban explorers. The more massive, the better, I guess. Industrial, medical, commercial. And Meg's exploration is cut short when Hawk alerts to a (deceased) human presence.

I loved the way the author intertwines fact with fiction, weaving little details not only about the (real) buildings and the people who do that sort of thing, but filling the fast-moving novel with obvious technical expertise, extensive research, and a wonderful cast of characters. Meg is well-developed and the support characters all mesh together in a practical and methodical exercise of search and rescue.

But the mystery of the killings goes deeper, much much deeper, and introduces you to a whole new subject. (There are some things you wish you didn't know but learn you do and in quick immersive fashion.)

The novel hooks you immediately and gathers speed in an impossible to put down race to the conclusion--and a heart-stopping climax. This can be read as a standalone and I'm seriously sorry I missed the first three but I'll look forward to the next one.

I received this digital download from the publisher through NetGalley and thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review. Recommended for any who enjoys a gasp-producing thriller.

No Man’s Land by Sara Driscoll
FBI K-9 #4

Have any idea what urbex is? I sure didn’t when I began reading this book but it was definitely something new and intriguing. Who knew that people go out dare-defilishly exploring buildings that are wrecks and no doubt should be condemned and knocked down BUT for Meg and her K-9 partner who go into dangerous places looking for survivors an urbex site is a great place to train...with someone that knows what they are doing. The descriptions of the derelict buildings in this book reminded me of an exhibition at the Sursock Museum in Beirut that I attended this year. The photographs were of abandoned buildings in Lebanon. It was haunting and disturbing and this book’s sites were no doubt the same. And, to have a fiendish killer leaving bodies in such buildings even more creepy.

With the clock ticking, more elderly people disappearing and dying and a team of civilian and FBI working the case as they try to get ahead of and capture the killer they look for clues, research angles, try to save people, become frustrated with near misses and finally manage to put all the pieces together to determine who the culprit is. The drama was real. The locations well described and creepy. The killer intelligent, committed and methodical. Dogs superb. The characters well crafted. The camaraderie warm and believable. And...I REALLY enjoyed this book!

This story brings back the sisters and their boyfriends as well as the FBI K-9 team with their human handlers and also introduces a new person or two that may show up in future books in the series. I would love to see find out more about Meg’s teammates Lauren and Scott as well as their dogs. I wonder if Chuck, Webb’s friend, will show up in future books. I also wonder if the introduction of the two new women will see them appearing in future cases. I am curious to see what will happen next with Meg and Webb as well as with Cara and McCord.

This series has wonderful characters that work together and make me feel I am coming home each time I pick up the next book. I can’t wait to read book five as soon as it is written!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This latest edition to the series is full of tension! I often found myself holding my breath. Meg and Hawk along with Webb stumble into a case that is twisted and horrible. The rest of the cast of characters are back along with some new. I hope we get to see more of them in future books. This book is full of mystery, suspense, action, and intrigue.

Another hit in the series --FBI K-9 #4 book by Sara Driscoll

We are now "Urbexing" - Urban exploration, usually of abandoned or nearly inaccessible man-made structures.

No Man's Land is an urbex term
meaning the dead space between an outer security fence and the actual site or building.

She needs to explore these buildings ( a fallout shelter from the Cold War, a condemned Gilded Age Mansion, and then to Massaponax Psychiatric Hospital) to help solve cases which leads her further and further towards the answers she is still seeking.

I enjoyed this book of the series and I am looking forward to the next one!
I want to see where she adventures to next and will she find what she needs to?!

No Man's Land is the fourth of the FBI K-9 series and the second that I have read. This is a murder mystery with an interesting premise. Urbex or urban exploration is a new concept to me but basically is an activity that people do to observe condemned sites that are left to deteriorate on their own. Explorers are going on these sites periodically to see how much they have changed, not to damage but observe. Meg Jennings and her search and rescue dog, Hawk, of the FBI K-9 unit, Meg's boyfriend and EMS firefighter Todd Webb, and friend/firefighter Chuck Smaill are touring one of these sites, an old hospital, when Hawk hits on the scent of a human. The victim, deceased, was an elderly woman, left to die alone and unable to save herself. This discovery leads to a spree of such killings where the elderly are left at urbex sites to die. Finding out the motive and killer is an undertaking that encompasses a group effort of the FBI K-9 group and FBI agents, Webb and Smaill as well as an investigative reporter and others. This is an interesting and different mystery that is engaging and a page turner. The scenes come to life with a group of friends and colleagues. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

The thriller style isn’t new but the method of the journey is. This book will keep you reading for all the right reasons. Characters are terrific and premise diabolical.

I have read all of the books in the series so far and this book is a little different to the others. It reads well as a standalone, but the others are terrific books so why not read them too?

It has to be said that I prefer the format of the previous books a little more than this one e.g. Meg and Hawk are involved in searching for people after a natural disaster usually, whereas this one is about abducted people they are trying to find. Nevertheless, it is a well-written book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Meg and Hawk (and the other characters) all the same. My heart was in my mouth several times when Meg was trying to get to a particular part of an abandoned building, it has to be said!

I really like how Meg's relationship with Webb is realistic, and not in-your-face in any way, which makes a nice change from a lot of books.

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books.
