Cute and poignant, sometimes funny. The author takes walks with his aging dog, Monty, and talks Monty through the major philosophers and their ideas before explaining his own. There are many imagined ripostes from Monty, whose idea of the Good consists mainly of the incontrovertible truth that he is a Good Dog. Monty is rather an Epicurian, given to the pleasures of the moment and not particularly worried about ultimate outcomes. Where the author ends up on the big questions is a spoiler, so you’ll have to read it for yourself, perhaps honing your own thinking along the way.

If you only love dogs, you might get bogged down right around Kant. If you love philosophy and dogs, this is recommended reading.
