I really wanted to like it. Since i am a bit of a crazy cat lady. But this did not feel like a cozy mystery to me. It was so much wrong happening and this and that...It was not fun. I enjoyed the kittens alot and Mac somewhat.
This is a fun series where Mac, a cat, acts as a matchmaker and neighbourhood watch. This is the third Mac book I have read and enjoyed them all. They can be read as standalone stories, but there are references to previous books that would act as spoilers if you wanted to go back and read the previous books. In this story, Mac has his paws full. He came across a litter of abandoned kittens and he takes them in. He is also trying to find homes for them within the neighbourhood. As this is happening, there are also robberies happening and Mac is being blamed based on his previous exploits. No Mac book is complete without him sniffing out lonely souls and bringing them together so there is another match made as well.
These books are told from Mac's POV. They are fun and easy to read. With a bit of mystery, romance and community, this was an enjoyable read for me. This story has themes of community, friendship and pets. I am not a cat lover, but I do love stories about animals and this one fits the bill nicely. An enjoyable story to read on a summer day by the pool.
Some books you read for the emotional impact, and some you read for fun. This book is the one you read for fun
This is 3rd in the series, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, all three books are delightful, so do yourself a favor and start with book 1. The history of Mac just adds layers to the story.
I have only one caveat about the book - its lackadaisical attitude about reputation and crime. Just because an item is not cherished doesn't make the person stealing it less of a criminal.
I adore Mac and I'm more of a dog person. His matchmaking is adorable and the couples he matches worthy of love.
Time reading this book is well-spent. Humor, love and pets!
MAC ON A HOT TIN ROOF brings us another adventure of a definite kleptomaniac cat by the name of MacGyver, or affectionally, exasperatedly also known as Mac. This time around, aside from tracking down another thief in the neighborhood and matchmaking his little kitty heart out, Mac has found a litter of abandoned, orphaned kittens in rough shape and now adds foster cat rescuer to his long list of abilities.
This unique cat has his work cut out for him as he evades capture by detectives who think he’s up to his old tricks (he’s not) and finding the perfect home for his little charges – and why not mix some matchmaking in with the search for the purr-fect home as well.
I had fun with Mac, Jamie, and David once again. MAC ON A HOT TIN ROOF is a charming Cozy Mystery that will please any cat lover, for we all know that cats are unique in their personalities, and is simply an overall good read. This story could stand on its own, but the rest of the earlier books are charming as well so feel free to indulge yourself from the very beginning to see how Mac got his start.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This is the 3rd in series of the story of the kleptomaniac cat MacGyver “Mac” the cat. These are pure catnip to cat lovers and adorable from start to finish. Mac is wonderful as a main charcter with a large personality that is always in trouble and has his paws in many situations that have the reader laughing out loud.
This time he has found some orphaned kittens and he raises them until they are old enough to be placed in new homes. The antics of the kittens with Mac are adorable and endearing to cat lovers. There is a new couple that gets together because of the kittens thanks to Mac and his matchmaking ! Mac also is concerned in this book about his human Jamie who is acting weird and doesn’t smell like herself.
Cat lovers will love returning to the world of Mac. I look forward to the next in series . Thank you to the publisher for the ARC. My review opinion is my own. I recommend this series for all who are owned by and adore cats ! Pure catnip for readers.!
I read and loved all the book in the Mac series and this one was no exception.
I love this heartwarming and feel-good stories, well written and entertaining.
Mac is as lovely as usual an the plot is engrossing and entertaining.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Mac on a Hot Tin Roof by Melinda Metz is the 3rd book in the Mac series, and another fun addition. MacGyver, belongs to Jamie and David, who he brought together, they are now expecting a baby. Mac can smell the loneliness on humans, so he sneaks out of the apartment and steals items to bring people together, which was often funny. In this adventure Mac finds five motherless kittens, that he is determined to take care of and fine them good homes. I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for more books by this author. I love all the quirky characters that bring this book together, and MacGyver of course. If you want a funny, heartwarming quick read, I recommend this book/series.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. Thank you.
Have y’all met Mac? What a cool cat! I love him. They other folks in this book are pretty special too. You’ll follow Erik, Kait, Mac, and Serena on their journey through life. I think you’ll enjoy how their lives intertwine with each other. Sometimes it’s difficult to carry on when you have heart break or hurt feelings. Things or people aren’t always what you may think. How many of us have jumped to a conclusion only to find out how wrong we are? I totally enjoyed this story and the folks in it. I hope you will too. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
My favorite feline sleuth is back with Mac on a Hot Tin Roof by Melinda Metz. Mac may have some kleptomaniac issues but he is not the guilty party this time. With his paws full of kittens to raise, a thief to catch and a important case of match matching to do, this story will keep Mac busy and the reader smiling.
Mac’s perspective is one of the best elements of this story. Sometimes I think I should read it out loud to my cat, but instead find myself laughing out loud. A one of a kind cat in a one of a kind series has a twist in this addition to it. Reading Mac on a Hot Tin Roof is just another reason to be thankful this November.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If there isn’t a real Storybook Court, there needs to be. But wow, these people need to keep their windows locked. Of course if they did so, it would be hard for Mac to work his magic. Mac takes on the role that Mason did at TinyKittens HQ (except Mac was never a feral) before Mason’s recent demise. Mac has to not only feed his kittens, he has to also teach them cat manners and survival skills. Someday they will be running their own households and need to know human management skills. I loved this part of the story and watching Mac evaluate his charges and diligently search for the best homes for them.
I knew nothing about the life of a journeyman actor but watching Serena prepare for auditions and shoot a TV commercial was an eye opener. What I like about her is that she knows what she’s up against and honestly feels that just being able to make a living as an actor is fine. Super stardom would of course be great but if that isn’t in the cards, she’s good. And she can always point out her commercial that shows off her wonderful skills as a Shigella bacterium. When the zing she feels with Erick has him skedaddling, Serena doesn’t cry, she doesn’t angst – well, she does discuss it with a friend but not in a “cry in your coffee” kind of way. She also doesn’t take any shit from Erick and lets him know he’s messed up.
Erick is a sweetie but he does have his moments when I wanted to smack him with my claws out. His own partner wants to smack him and also lets him know he’s messed up. I enjoyed seeing the two of them walking their beat, getting to know the people they’re responsible for and trying to solve the mystery of who is stealing the butt-ugly stuff. Erick finally pulls his head out of his ass but it takes a while and Serena gives him a few more chances than I’d feel comfortable doing. The two of them are faced with choices in their careers that I thought were handled well. Before they could work out any future, they did need to get these issues straight and I thought that by the end, they were honest with themselves about those as well as with their relationship.
As with “Talk to the Paw,” there is an epilogue for this book which wraps up some of the things in the story. I had kind of figured out some of them but appreciated that these were only hinted at along the way. While the people living in Storybook Court are kind and forgiving, I hope that they think about installing some security cameras. And Mac’s kittens? They seem to be taking care of their humans nicely just as Uncle Mac has taught them. B-
Thank you to netgalley and Kensington for the arc.
I admit up front to being a fan of this totally implausible series about Mac the cat. He's one dynamic kitty- he's been a thief, he's a matchmaker, and he's entirely sensitive to both human and animal feelings. This time out, he discovers five orphaned kittens and cares for them. He also finds the right humans to adopt them (love this part). At the same time, he's worried about his person Jamie because things don't seem right with her AND about the fact that someone is swiping stuff in the neighborhood again. This last, however, leads to his happy place. At least, Mac is a matchmaker- of people and cats and of people and people. There's not a lot to this, which is fine by me, and don't worry if you haven't read the earlier books- it's fine as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Fans will be pleased with how things turn out.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.
I fell in love with the character of Mac the cat in, “The secret life of Mac”, and fell just a bit harder when he adopted a litter of kittens and began teaching them all they needed to know to be a cat in this book. All while solving the problems of the humans who most need his help in Storybook Court, of course, as only Mac can; whether it be in matters of the heart or working out who will be graced with one of ‘his’ kittens.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Mac and his friends from Storybook Court yet, then I suggest that you get all of the books in the series, settle down comfortably and get familiar with Mac’s delightful cat wisdom and perspective on life.
With ‘cattitude’ aplenty there is plenty to ‘amewse’ you in this well written, fun series.
Mac on a Hot Tin Roof by Melinda Metz 4 stars
This is the second Mac "MacGyver" the matchmaking cat book that I have read. I shall have to pick up the one that I missed "The Secret Life of Mac". This book was a charming read, not only does Mac have trouble understanding why his human, Jamie is acting funny, but he also has to deal with a litter of kittens that have been orphaned. On the way, he matches more than one couple together and helps solve a mini crime wave. I loved reading the parts where Mac is thinking about strange humans and their shortcomings ... the noses and their lack of scent-ability. All together a fun read, I look forward to Mac next adventures.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for this ARC.
In another delightful Mac book, we find our cat hero. He's fostering four kittens, he doesn't understand what's wrong with his owner, and valuable jewelry & other objects are missing. And, as always, there are people who need fixing using Mac's extraordinary skills.
You'll find many of your favorite characters from the other books and you'll be introduced to some delightful new folks in the neighborhood.
It's delightful, warm, and fun.
A sweet lighthearted read with a cat that will steal your heart.
MacGyver “Mac” the kleptomaniac match-making cat is back again. This time he has found some orphaned kittens and he raises them until they are old enough to be placed in new homes, which Mac hand chooses for each one. There is also a new couple that gets together because of the kittens, Serena and Erik. Meanwhile Mac tries to figure out why his person, Jamie, is acting weird and doesn’t smell like herself. There is also a thief loose at Storybook Court and all fingers start to point at Mac because of his past reputation.
This book had me hooked from the start just like the rest of the books in the series. Mac is such a cool cat. Even though he can be a bit mischievous, he always has good intentions. The author has a way of telling the story that it feels like you’re right there as the story plays out. This is the kind of book that would make a really cute tv show or movie.
This is actually the third book in a series and though it can be read on its own, I would strongly recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you get to know all of the characters better. Plus, you don’t want to miss out on any of Mac’s antics.
Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun read! If you love cats, grab this book. Mac will steal your heart faster than anything he stole from the neighbors. This book is purrfect to curl up with in your favorite chair with a cup of hot cocoa. I really enjoyed it. Thank you Kensington Books via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is definitely not a cozy mystery. I enjoyed the cat MacGyver and his kittens very much. The rest of the story I found to be boring. There was alot of well this bad thing happened so all dating is bad, and everytime someone does something it's wrong and hurts someone. The only reason the thief was caught was because of the cat. #MacOnAHotTinRoof #NetGalley
Mac, Jamie and David’s cat, is reputed to be a cat burglar and a matchmaker. In this adventure Mac adds the title of foster cat to his resume. On a meander about the neighborhood, Mac finds an abandoned litter of kittens in bad shape. He immediately rescues them, toting them one by one to a secure shed where he secures them while he searches for food.
After feeding and cleaning the little ones he sets out to interview humans in the area, his plan is to find suitable homes for his little ones when they are old enough for adoption. Mac is also struggling with his perception that his human, Jamie is changing, and he doesn’t know what’s going on.
Melinda Metz skillfully crafts the character of Mac – the story from his perspective is both believable and charming. While the novel involves human characters, the sections relating to Mac and his exploits are the most enjoyable and entertaining.
