This series keeps getting more and more interesting as we meet new characters and dig deeper into this world of crazy shifters, fae and vampires. I am loving every moment of the experience and Alexandra Ivy never fails to give us an experience to remember when we read. This series has slow evolved into a complicated and twisted maze of a plotline that just keeps crazier with each installment. Ulric is the right-hand man of a new character that was introduced a few stories ago and we’ve gotten to know him a bit, and I really loved and wanted his story, mainly because I was so interested since he was the last member of his pack and wanted to understand why. Not to be outdone on the scale of interesting, Rainn is a zephyr sprite, which is a type of being that hasn’t been delved into in previous stories in the series. The chemistry and obvious connection between these two is alternately sexy and sweet but always intense and watching them banter, spar, and finally come together was thrilling. I loved getting to know Ulric, despite him being a typical idiot male a few times as he went through his adventure in the desert. He is very much a strong alpha male determined to protect those he loves and considers his own, and once he takes Rainn into his heart fully he refuses to let anything destroy her. Rainn has a destiny, one that she has been following and fearing since she was a young woman, but she knows the time is rapidly approaching where she will have to make a choice and it will hurt. She was a sweet and sassy female for sure, and seeing how she refused to back down from any altercation with Ulric reminds me that a strong woman can be soft sometimes and hard others and still maintain her womanliness. In the end only by coming together in full love and trust, revealing all their secrets and understanding that the bond between them is special and eternal, are the able to conquer the dark enemies chasing them and bring an end to their battles. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series and to meeting the next group of lovers that will be falling in love, because there is no way this series is ending anytime soon. Bring it on, Alexandra!

Conquer the Darkness is the 15th book in the Guardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. The books are interconnected stand-alones, which means that while each book features a different couple, a lot of its plots have been playing out for at least a couple of books and there is a lot of history between the characters, so new to the series readers, might get a little lost. I would recommend to start the series from the beginning or at least read some spoilers for the previous books in order to get an idea about what is going on in this paranormal world.

I read this book a little less than a year ago and I decided to read it again in preparation for the publication of Shades of Darkness (book 16 in the series), but even from the first chapter I found myself remembering most of the things that went down in this book, so I can safely say that it made an impression on me.

Levet and Inga should get their own books because honestly, at this point I feel like they are just stealing the spotlight from everyone else. For at least two books they have very centric roles and many pages are written from their point of view. They are certainly interesting, but there is not enough room for the rest of the plots plus the romance to happen.

Overall, the book was enjoyable despite the many plots and characters. I had a good time reading it and I am still well hooked on the series.

This series keeps getting better and better. I was not a fan of Ulric in the other books and was not really looking forward to this one, but I was so wrong. He and Rainn have an interesting dynamic that you get sucked into. This book is full of interesting characters (other than Levet) and a story full of twists and turns that make it really hard to put the book down. I cannot wait for the next.

Conquer the Darkness is a new installment in a series by Alexandra Ivy.
If tippy like broody, intense men who are hawt to the touch you'll enjoy this series. Seriously, girl, you should read it. The men are strong and so are the women.
Of course there are the usual haters and general evil, but they add so much...

CONQUER THE DARKNESS (Guardians of Eternity Book 15) By Alexandra Ivy
This is another very satisfying installment of the Guardians of Eternity series. I have followed this saga since the 1st one. I love the world Alexandra has created with Ulric, Rainn, Levet (can’t get enough of the charming little gargoyle), and the others. She brings us great characters with even better banter, there is continuity between the books and I love it when we get to visit with past characters. I definitely will continue to follow Alexandra Ivy and her world she creates. This is a 5 star read.

CONQUER THE DARKNESS is the fifteenth instalment in Alexandra Ivy’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY paranormal / fantasy romance series. This is werewolf and casino operator Ulric, and zephyr sprite Rainn’s story line. CONQUER THE DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Ulric, Rainn, Brigette and Levet CONQUER THE DARKNESS follows Ulric as he comes face to face with his past, a past he believed had been destroyed by Anasso hundreds of years before. With the return of his cousin Brigette, Ulric had hoped that perhaps more of his family had survived the destruction but not everything was as it appeared to be. Rainn suspected something wasn’t right with the return of Ulric’s cousin Brigette, and in an effort to protect the man with whom she would fall in love, Rainn played guardian and protector when Ulric headed to Europe in an effort to reconnect with his long lost cousin. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Rainn and Ulric, as our couple come face to face with an evil that is hoping to finish what was started years before.

Rainn is a zephyr sprite who has been fated by birth to do the Oracles’ bidding , and their bidding included destroying the evil that demands control of the world but Rainn and Ulric find themselves struggling to survive as the evil has taken control of the woman Ulric was hoping to find, an evil that has plans for our story line hero.

Meanwhile, Levet the gargoyle has stowed away on Ulric and Rainn’s flight to Ireland, where he will be tasked with locating an ancient book that will hopefully explain about the evil that is about to engulf the world.

The relationship between Rainn and Ulric is a friends/employees to lovers relationship wherein Ulric reveals, while on their search for Brigette, that Rainn is his mate but Rainn struggles with the task at hand, and refuses to accept that Ulric is her happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including gargoyle Levet and ogress / mermaid Inga and her assistant Troy, vampires Chiron, Javad, Tarik and his mate Waverly ; Cyn, the clan chief of Ireland and his mate Fallon, Ulric’s cousin Brigette, and a powerful demon known as Zella. WE are introduced to Chaaya, a woman who calls herself the gatekeeper, but a woman who will find her place amongst the Guardians back home.

CONQUER THE DARKNESS is a story of betrayal and vengeance; of power and control; of fate and happiness. The premise is entertaining and imaginative; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are energetic and spirited.

I alternated between listening and reading the print version of this book. I will say first off that this book is well into a series that I have never read. I have read this author many times previously in the past and enjoyed her books. This was the second book I've reviewed from this author that dropped me into a well established series. This book, however, makes it very apparent that it is a continuation of a storyline and I had no idea who any of the other characters were. There were many and many supernatural characters who were coupled up so I'm assuming each relationship was a new book.

As to this book. It didn't grab me and almost lost me as it took quite a while for me to even care why Ulric was doing something that blatantly just screamed "walking into a trap". Was I supposed to like him automatically, or is this a part of where possibly reading the prior books in this series had already introduced him to me and made me like and care for him to begin with? Regardless, there was no character building and between Ulric and Rainn, I really was not very invested. But, I was driving in the middle of nowhere, coming back from a family dinner and could not take the time to change the audiobook, so I was a bit stuck.

Eventually, I guess I caught up and the story seemed to come to a happy ending - back to that coupling up from earlier - but honestly, I was ready to be done. Will I continue with the series, I'm not sure. Probably not. But I will not hesitate to come back to this author for other series - there are always one off bad experiences. And, the character of Levet made me laugh - he made reading the entire book worth it. Seems like he has some repressed feelings for a Ogress. Or was it a Mermaid/Ogress...I didn't really understand that - more info from the prior books I guess.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing this copy to me for an honest review.

4.5 Stars

I love a good werewolf story. Throw in the history of this series and I would not say no to this book. We have met Ulric already as he is the right hand to Chiron. He has lived most of his life as a lone wolf, adopting Chiron's people as his own. Rainn is his co-worker (and a new breed to learn about) and she decides to keep and eye on him.

The whole story is a ploy to release the dark entity from it's prison. Lots of smoke and mirrors (no pun intended) leading up to the climax. The romance between Ulric and Riann takes it's time. They finally both admit thier feelings and Ulric admits to her being his mate and then the fireworks go off.

Meanwhile, we get lots of Levet and the Vampire clan trying to help out as much as they can. Add in the mermaids and this is just a great paranormal read!

Looking forward to more from the Guardians!

Ulric, who lost his entire pack over a half century ago, suddenly scents family in the Vegas casino he helps run. A brief encounter with his long, lost cousin, Brigette, sends Ulric back to the place his pack was slaughter years ago in search of Brigette and answers.

Rainn has been a coworker of Ulric for years, but when Brigette shows up in the casino, Rainn knows something evil is afoot. She decides she is going to be Ulric’s unwanted back up and they even end up with a tiny gargoyle stow-away.

Uncovering what caused the destruction of Ulric’s pack puts Ulric and Rainn in the crosshairs of the ancient evil that demolished his family.

There has always been an attraction, strong chemistry, between Ulric and Rainn but these close quarters reveal they are destined mates.

Ghosts of the past and present collide. And a certain tiny gargoyle might find himself in the perfect place to save the world once again.

I devoured Ivy’s Conquer the Darkness in one reading. Fun, fasted paced and enchanting crossovers from some of our favorite characters, Ivy pens paranormal romances that I just can’t miss.

I received this ARC copy of Conquer the Darkness from Kensington Books - Lyrical Press. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Ulric released a howl of pleasure as he loped through the vast darkness. It’s had been far too long since he had the luxury of leaving the glittering lights of Las Vegas to run across the desert. This week Chiron returned to his elegant casino on the strip. That meant Ulric could shift into his wolf form and lose himself in the wild pleasures of the night . Dawn was nearing and he halted at the end of the desert and returned to his human form. Ulric also had the rapid temper of his animal and the willingness to use violence when necessary. He took the ,ost direct route to Dreamscope even though he was strolling through one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Vegas. He had a bad butt vibe that sent humans and demons scurrying out of his path. Chiron had strict rules of what Ulric could do to customers., even if they were trying to cheat or being drunk pains in the butt. Only the high end gamblers walked through the Dreamscapes doors or stayed in the luxury suites. Chiron was Ulric’s master and a vampire. Ulric had money, security, and females if he wanted them. And a mas5ter who was as close as a brother. So why did he feel such a dark cloud forming over just over the horizon? Ulric trusted Chiron but the rest of the leeches could sink back into the Netherworld they crawled out of. Chiron knew Ulric was a growly, bitey, dangerously rabid sort of dude. He talked when he wanted to talk. Ulric liked Chiron’s mate Lilah. She was a perfect partner. When Ulric mentioned moving on Chiron told him they started this journey together and as far as he was concerned they would finish it together. They were family. Than Ulric saw a beautiful woman in a long backless black gown . Then he caught a scent of musk and froze. Disbelief exploded through froze. She smelled like pack, like family. It was impossible for his pacl had been slaughtered over five hundred years ago. Still… there was no denying the scent. A person’s smell remained the same unlike their looks. Shaking himself out of his stunned inertia and rushed through the casino. Than she was in front of him and memories bombarded Ulric. He said “ Brigette.” Her eyes widened , her expression stricken as she suddenly recognized him”Ulric.” He asked if she was real she said the same and added she thought he was dead. Ulric asked her to come back inside and Brigette said to forget her and than a shiny silver Jaguar squealed into the circle drive and she jumped in the car and it went squealing away. Ulric ran after the car but it got to far away and he got the sense he was being followed. Then he went back to the hotel. He stopped in front of the storage room that led to the kitchen. He found Rainn - a rare zephyr sprite appeared out of the desert twenty years ago and quickly earned Chiron’s trust. Ulric growled “ Why the hell are you following me ? “ Ulric told Rainn the woman was his cousin and it’s a miracle. But rainn said or a trap and that she had her eyes on the female her. When Ulric asked why Rainn said to follow her. Rainn told him Brigette was waiting for him as they watched the security camera. There was one way to find out, ask Brigette. First he had to find her. Rainn raised magic to enter the plane Ulric would be on. Soon Ulric entered the plane and it took off. Rainn felt this is sher destiny. Ulric deeply lusted for Rainn but never let her know. They were on their way to his old lair. When they got there he changed and ran toward home. Than Ulric realized felt like howling, emptiness unnerved him, he changed to his human form.
I loved this book . It was filled with danger, betrayer, intrigue lust for power, werewolves, sprites, demons, evil, a battle, merpeople, a sealed door, lust, and so much more. I really didn’t want to set this down as I wanted to see what happened next. At times I was on the edge of my seat. I love the ending. I loved the plot and pace. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

Conquer the Darkness is filled with all the action, adventure and love we have come to expect from this series. This time it’s werewolf Ulric and zephyr sprite Rainn’s turn at finding love. This book is filled with fantastic world building, fascinating characters, magic and the magic of love. A terrific addition to the series.

While some series lose their rhythm and flow after so many books (Conquer the Darkness is book 15), Alexandra Ivy has revived the appeal of the Guardians of Eternity by going back to its grass roots. Characters like Chiron, Tarak and now Ulric, are the perfect example of what readers have come to expect and love about this enthralling series. And then there’s the women who bring these dominate and powerful immortals to their knees; they are the real foundation of each and every story.

Ulric and Rainn’s story has absolutely everything! Action, danger, mystery and sizzling chemistry, which all combine to provide readers with a non-stop, adrenaline fuelled read. The characters are portrayed with empathy and strength, and their relationship develops from respect and solidarity, to an all-consuming passion that fortifies their emotional connection and the power each possess. And let’s not forget the ever annoying and loveable Levet; he may be small in stature, but his heart is enormous, and he wields his Knight in Shining Armour title with earnestness and pride.

My love of this series has been renewed, as Ms Ivy writes her characters with depth and fortitude, while her plots are well delivered with and ebb and flow that ensures a thoroughly addictive read. Guardians of Eternity was, and is one of my favourite series, and I encourage lovers of paranormal romance to dive into this captivating world.

This book was so good. It was interesting, fast-paced, and very well-written. The characters were engaging and multi-dimensional.

It's been a while since I've read a book by Alexandra Ivy, and I have to wonder why. I've obviously been missing out on some great stories.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.

Ulric is the last surviving member of his werewolf clan until he returns to the casino he calls home and finds his cousin Brigette who has apparently survived as well. Brushing aside the advice of the Zephyr sprite Rainn he follows Brigette right into the trap that she's baited for him. What an exciting start to the next chapter of the Guardians Of Eternity.
Fortunately for Ulric, Rainn follows him to his private plane and then on to the remote corner of Scotland where his father once led his clan of werewolves. Ulric recalls his father's discovery of scrolls that seemed to have changed his father and then his entire clan was decimated shortly after and he himself was taken prisoner. Now as he smells the familiar scents of home he also finds to his horror that the land is being destroyed by an ugly green fog that seems to cast a pall over this corner of the world.
The evil that is seeping out of the cave where his father originally found the scrolls has been attempting to find a way to escape and take over the earth. Aided by new friends and old Ulric prepares to take a stand to protect the world. The gargoyle Levet provides some much needed laughter but overall this story is a grim tale of survival and trying to stay one step ahead of the evil that has completely engulfed Ulric's cousin Brigette.
Even as the author gave us what we readers thought of as the final story in this series, she's discovered there are many more tales for her to tell and a lot of other evil that's trying to get a toehold in the human world. I welcome the next tale in this series.
