A fun summer contemporary romance that is sure to have young readers grinning ear to ear!
This was so cute and fun, it gave me all the best summer vibes! I found myself giggling at the banter and sassy comments. Some of the pranks were fun, and overall it was a perfect rivals to lovers, lakeside romance. Great for anyone looking for a light, YA summer read.
Perfect for fans of
- Rivals to Lovers
- Summer Romance
- Witty Banter
- Kasie West
Very cute YA summer romance. Adorable and well-written. If you do not enjoy YA romances, I would not recommend this, but if those are your cup of tea, try this!
-- This review is several years past the release date due to the many issues of 2020, but a huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early copy of the book.
Very good!
I wish it had been a bit better, but I thought that it was super interesting. I love second-chance stories and also slow releases of information.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This was a well-written teen romance novel about two teens who have summered together for years and hate each other but learn to love one another. Great storyline and characters.
A super cute, enemy to lovers summer romance. Perfect escapism, the right mount of witty banter between Asher and Sid, and a sweet romance. Actually it’s one of the sweetest YA Contemporary romances I’ve read in years.
This book was SO FUN!!
I mean, I"m a HUGE fan of the "enemies to lovers" trope. And prank wars?! PERFECTION.
In the midst of such a crazy, turbulent world, this title was a sheer breath of fresh air. I found myself with a smile upon my face throughout the majority of the pages -- and rooted for Asher and Sidney from Page 1 until the end.
It's sweet, it's cute, it's summery -- what more can I say? If you're looking for a light read bursting at the seams with spot-on comedic timing and a cute summertime romance, MEET ME AT MIDNIGHT is the title for you!
I am a huge fan of summer novels and this one did not dissappoint. The two main characters have been at odds for years (really over some misunderstandings). Certain events of this particular summer cause them to put aside old rivalries and band together for the greater good.
I liked that this wasnt your typical story that wrapped up all perfectly. There was room for development for both the main characters.
This book is in many ways the definition of the miscommunication/rushing to conclusions without talking-trope, which I don’t like. But Asher and Sidney are also teenagers and I can forgive it a bit easier.
The plot of this story is full of messy relationship stuff, pranks that tether on the brink of what I’d believe and lots and lots of swimming. I didn’t absolutely love the story, but I did like it and it felt very true to how it felt to be a teenager, or summer before college-age young adult, struggling with family, friends, crushes and what on Earth to do with you future.
It was cute, it was funny and I liked it.
Unfortunately, I was not a huge fan of this book. I found the characters to be quite 1 dimensional and on top of that I thought the pacing of the book was quite off. I thought the relationship was quite cute so if you are looking for a book with a cute fun relationship then I might recommend this.
This was such a delightful book, I really loved it!
Meet Me at Midnight is a light summer read and I didn't want to put it down. It felt so true to the summer before college, and Sidney and Asher felt like actual teenagers. I loved the banter, the emotions, and all of the little details. I saw another reviewer say this, but it really does have the same feeling of The Hating Game, but in YA!
There were multiple moments that made me laugh out loud, and others that I could feel in my heart. I highly recommend this as a sweet, pick-me-up, summer read!
Swimmers Archer and Sidney have spent the summers since childhood at the lake community pranking each other. When a prank goes too far and the families are kicked out, the two team up to turn their pranks on the woman who sent them packing. Can the two call a truce long enough to survive the summer? Out this April, this YA’s dual perspective is bursting with chemistry and prank shenanigans that fuel the hate-to-love relationship that you’ll fall instantly for.
There were a couple of things that appealed to me right away about this story.
First of all, I love a story where the characters are spending the summer somewhere else. It's such a foreign concept to me because I spent every Summer at home, getting in fights with my brothers and causing trouble around the neighborhood. I would rather have been in a cabin somewhere or in a cottage by the beach..
Second of all, I love a story where the two main characters like each other but are too busy hating each other to admit it. The enemies to lovers trope gets me every time. Add in the pranks that Sidney and Asher played on each other and it made for a very interesting story.
It was really easy to dive into this story because it was the Summer I always dreamed of. As a teen, I would have loved to spend the Summer with my family at the lake. But more importantly, I would have loved to have a feud going with the boy next door.
Sidney and Asher might seem like polar opposites at first, but they actually have a lot in common. One of the biggest things is their passion for swimming. Unbeknownst to them, they will be swimming at the same college in Fall, which means that it's probably better for them to not be enemies. Not when they'll be teammates.
I really liked both Sidney and Asher right off the bat, but in different ways. I related to Sidney in that she seemed very concerned with protecting herself and being serious. And I enjoyed the way that Asher liked to push her buttons. The scene where they went to the party together and he tried to dress like her had me laughing so hard.
Everybody needs a goofball like that in their life, and I think Sidney realized that as the story progressed and the two of them got to know each other on a deeper level.
Sarah Dessen will always be my YA Summer Romance Queen, but if Jessica Pennington writes more books like this one, I could definitely see myself becoming a big fan! After looking on Goodreads, I see that Jessica Pennington might have some other Summer titles out there that I might be interested in reading. Very cool.
My Rating: 4 Stars
I did deduct 1 star from my rating because I felt that the ending was rushed. The last 10% of the story takes place while Sidney and Asher are at college and finally figure their relationship out, and I would have enjoyed it if it had been written more in depth. It felt very much like it could have been expanded on for reader enjoyment.
But that's just my opinion.
I recommend this book if you like:
- Summer Romance
-Stories that take place by the water (or in this case, a lake)
- Sarah Dessen (this story felt similar to hers)
- Fighting Main Characters (Who also like to play pranks)
That's all for now! Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
One last summer before college means one last summer of pranks but what happens when you end up on the same side?
Every year Sidney and Ashers families rent summer homes side by side and enjoy the whole summer with each other ever since they were 12. This is where their prank war began but after a prank goes too far during the current summer, they are evicted and now sharing a house together. With both teenagers feeling guilt for the eviction, can they call a truce and get along for the rest of the summer? Or will the war continue?
Meet me at midnight starts out by jumping right into the story and does not slow down. It's a good story for older teen romance fans. With light humor and a summer feel this story was a nice light paced read. Definitely recommend for young adult lovers.
I received an advanced copy through netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This was such a cute and easy read! I love a story that flows and this didn’t disappoint!
Meet Me At Midnight was so beautiful and one I will be recommending
This was a really cute story! It was a refreshing take of a YA romance! I love when the author has originality and it shows in her writing and ideas. If you want to read a fabulous well written YA book I highly recommend this.
This book has one of the best enemies to lovers trope and is a great and fun summer read. It is balanced with the right amount of pranks, banter and humor too
The relationship and dynamic between the two main characters - Asher and Sidney felt real and was well developed as well. As for the flashbacks, they were placed properly and where needed. They were helpful to understand how they came to the point they are at.
I recommend this to anyone who wants to read light and fun YA romantic novel!
This book wasn't really in a genre that I enjoyed, but I did have material to compare it to and it really held up. I thought that it was well written, well edited, and a great addition to it's genre. I thought it was a good twist on the typical "summer holiday at the lakehouse" theme.
The characters definitely had their own voices, but they were not the most fleshed out, which given the genre it's not a criticism.
At times it was a bit slow - but overall an enjoyable read.
This was a simple hetero book that, while sounds good, wasn't entirely for me.
I did enjoy the book for how easy it was to read, and I can see a lot of other people enjoying this one for sure. Especially as it's just a cutesy hetero book.
Meet Me at Midnight was another great book by Jessica Pennington. She's always my go-to for summer reads and this one is probably my favourite of hers. Sidney and Asher were so much fun to get to know. I love their dynamic. Ennemi to lover is one of my favourite tropes and just seeing their relationship develop was just swoon-worthy.
I really wanted to love this book because it was a friend to lover’s romance so I was hoping that I would love this book because I have a sweet spot for these types of books.
Sidney and Asher have spent every summer together since they were 12/13 because their parents have been best friends forever. They have been playing pranks on one another ever since. When I read that I thought that I would start to like the book more, but I just ended up going the complete opposite. I did not hate it just disliked it.
I am sad to say that this book was not for me.
