I received an excerpt, courtesy of NetGalley, for this ya Fantasy coming soon. This excerpt was the perfect way to sink the hook in, and leave the reader wanting more. Immersive and imaginable, I can't wait to read the whole story soon!!
It's a cute little fantasy, if you're into that sort of thing. But it feels more like a fantasy-drama-action.
On a reading slump here with ARCS. I struggle with how much you have to try and remember and the amount of information overload at the beginning. I want to read a book, see characters and story develop, not be overwhelmed from the start and lose interest because I am almost need to take notes. No thanks. ARC kindly provided by NetGalley.
i cannot wait for it to come out so i can read the whole thing, This excerpt was the perfect this to keep me waiting
I read the first 2 chapters of Sara Hollands new book Havenfall. I have yet to read anything by this author so I wasn't previously familiar with her writing style. From the first 2 chapters it seems intriguing and easy to read. I look forward to reading the rest of the book when it comes out March 2020.
I don’t normally read this genre so it was good to have an expert of the book to see if I liked it or not to get the whole book. after reading the expert, I will be looking forward for the full book.
Review of first two chapters.
Cool concept. The set up was solid. I found the description of the other realms to be interesting. I am curious to see where the author will take this story. This book has the potential to be above average. Hopefully it will be.
Chapter samplers provided by Netgalley
This was an exciting excerpt to read, Havenfall is a must read ! The chapters sampler hooks you into the story. We have different realms, magic and intriguing characters that you want to know more about.
Sara Holland has a way with words that makes you eager to read more.
Good excerpt. Perfect for sampling the new series and getting a feel. Looking forward to reading the whole book.
Magical parallel worlds, fancy mystical hotel set in the mountains of Colorado, likable heroine, and fresh plot...yes, please!!
I really enjoyed Sara Holland’s Everless/Evermore duology and I’m very excited to read her next book, Havenfall. Especially after reading this excerpt which establishes the storyline and ends just as Maddie, our heroine, makes it to Havenfall where all the magical fun (or not) can begin!!
The personal and worldly stakes are high and I cannot wait to see what happens next!
I only read a small sample of this but I really enjoyed it. The worldbuilding is fascinating - I love that mix between real world and fantasy world - and the characters all seem like ones I want to spend much more time with. A really strong start!
It's really hard to give an opinion on just a couple of chapters but Havenfall seems interesting. I'll be looking for the rest of the book next year from my local library I guess because I was denied for the full copy.
After reading a two chapter sample of this from Netgalley I am hooked! The premise is intriguing and there's a but if queer vibe from the two characters in the exerpt, which I'm all for. Can't wait to see how the story goes.
This is only an excerpt of the Book Havenfall by Sarah Holland, so I think it ended up going to maybe the second chapter. However what I read was very good. I definitely want to check this book out when it's released.
The story seems to take place in an Inn in the town of Haven. The main character Maddie is on her way to Havenfell to stay with her uncle for the summer. So the Inn is a magical place where portal open to other worlds
I enjoyed the world building in prologue and first chapter. Before the story actually starts we get a kind of break down of the different worlds.
The magical Inn is a pretty unique story line for YA. I have not come across anything like it before.. However if you have heard of Ilona Andrews, her and her husband Gordan write a series call the Innkeepers. It seems similar in the fact that its a magical place where different species from different worlds can come together and its a safe place. Havenfall seems like a similar set up at least at the beginning. Im not sure what will happen after Maddie arrives at the Inn for the summer, and what will happen beyond what was written in the synopsis.. As I stated above the writing was very good in the excerpt that I read, and I will read this when its released in March 2020..
This is the first time that I have only been given an excerpt of a book that will be coming out, especially a book that is the first of a new series so this was a bit new to me. I will say that it caught my attention and this will be something that I am definitely interested in when the series debuts. For some reason, I kept finding myself going back to the Innkeeper series by Ilona Andrews. There are similarities - how many, I'm not really sure because I have only read a very small bit of the introduction, but I'm sure just because the two series deals with Innkeepers and different realms, the characters and events will be dramatically different.
The world building on this new series looks like it is going to be very unique and interesting. Looking forward to continuing on.
I really enjoyed the bit I read of this book. The world building is fantastic. My favorite part is the ice world. I love anything that has a “Snow Queen” vibe. I don’t like the cover at all. It looks bit middle schoolish but that can be overlooked. It may affect the book’s success though.
I shouldn't have read this. Now I want the rest of the book! I loved Everless, so seeing another book by Sara Holland just made my day. This got me hooked from the moment I looked at the cover. I know they say not to judge a book based on the cover, but I couldn't help myself. The cover is gorgeous and the excerpt is even more intriguing! Now I've just got to wait until the actual book comes out......
I only got an excerpt but that little bit let me excited for more! I can't wait to read this in its entirety!
Great writing and awesome setting. Loved that it started off with good descriptions of smell and set up a picture of real life. Would hold a lot of reader's interest. I loved this author's first book Everless, it was very interesting and different with the time giving/taking. Just not interested in continuing this story. Not a story line for me. Could be for others though!
Author: Sara Holland, author of Everless
Publication Date: March 3rd, 2020
Extract Length: Chapters 1 & 2
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing Place
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy Fiction
A young adult fantasy fiction tale set-in modern-day Colorado on top of a mountain town surrounded by enchanted fog, sits the magical inn of Havenfall. The gateway between the realms has been entrusted to human caretakers for generations to ensure peace between the mystical beings. But something dark stirs in the shadows, threatening the very peace protecting the realms from utter chaos.
Author Sara Holland has created yet another wonderful and enchanting best seller. The world in which young Maddie Marrow must overcome her greatest fears, presents a beautiful message of courage, truth, and finding one’s identity. Although the advanced ebook extract only provided the first two chapters, the conflict and emotional pull emitting from Maddie was enough to get me interested into the story.
Fantasy plots and magical beings have always been my go-to for stories to read; this arc reminds me of a darker and intense version of the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. Maddie’s fears over her family dynamic and desire for a place to call her own is relatable. The narrative and dialogue aren’t forced but flow naturally with the story.
Readers will be introduced to a world of magical and otherworldly creatures’ intent on survival, but also on the brink of collapse as Maddie desperately searches for a way to save all the realms; while proving her mother innocent of a terrible crime.
Sound like your kind of story? Mine too. I am fully invested into finding out what happens and was more than disappointed when I finished chapter two.
Havenfall is set to be published on March 3rd, 2020 by Bloomsbury Publishing. Be sure to follow Bloomsbury Publishing and Sara Holland for updates about the upcoming release.
