I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ugh, so so so mad that it was the excerpt and not the whole book that I got because it ended so abruptly! Havenfall sounds like a really interesting fantasy book. In it, you'll meet Maddie and all she wants to do with her life is work at her family's inn. Now this inn is super special because it lets you into two other realms. We don't know much about them since we don't really see much of them in this little excerpt but I'm hoping whenever I get the actual book I will know more about it.
Then there's the fact about her own family. Her uncle is taking care of the inn and the other realms but it will go to her mom at one point. Unfortunately, her mom isn't doing so hot right now. So it might end up going to Maddie herself but her dad has other plans. He wants her to have a real dream but she has no desire for that.
So instead of going where her dad sends her - she goes to havenfall. Along the way, she meets Taya - who sort of almost kills her. We don't really know much about her yet because we've just met her but we do know that she's sort of orphan right now. No idea if she lives with another relative (hoping to know more about her later in the book) but we do know that she lost her parents in an unfortunate driving accident.
Overall, really can't wait to dive into the real book. Hoping it will come available on NetGalley but if not, I will wait for it to come out.
I need the rest of it! I was granted access to the excerpt of Havenfall and I could not put it down! I recently read the Everless series by Holland, which made me a huge fan of her writing. This will be the perfect book for young adults who want a fantasy story, without it being too over the top. I cannot wait for the release next year! I am curious on how the different worlds work too: different worlds, different suns & moons, different weather, but only doored gateways and Havenfall between them.
This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!
This sampler certainly convinces me that I need to read the book when it’s released. I have lots of questions, and not that much happened during the one chapter? I read?
Ahhhhh I'm so excited to read the rest of it! While I only recieved access to an excerpt of the book, I'm loving what I've read so far, and can't what to see where the story goes!
This book was received as an ARC from Bloomsbury USA Children's Books - Bloomsbury YA in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have read Everless and really liked it so I knew going into reading this book I was going to have high expectations. I was pleased from beginning to end of the writing style Sara has which made the book more enjoyable. When Maddie's world gets turned upside down and the place she once called her favorite place in the world has become dark and her friends and boyfriend Brekken relationships become complicated, something must be wrong. Now, when discovering a dead body is in the mirror lake and some pieces are missing to the puzzle. Maddie is determined to figure out some answers and is destined to unlock the secrets the inn possesses to save the place and the people she loves the most.
We will consider adding this title to our YFiction collection at the library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
I have an excerpt from this but it was so good. I can't wait to have the full story. I really love Sara Holland's Everless and Evermore, surely this won't disappoint me.
OMG I need this book right now!!! I was kind of disappointed when I realized this was just an excerpt (insert crying a lot of crying!). But its a must read!!
Yeah, I definitely look forward to reading this completely once published. This is probably why I usually avoid reading excerpts. They make you curious enough to break invisible barriers to obtain that book no matter what.
I had been also keeping myself distant from series since often the second book turns out to be a disappointment or you simply lose interest. This excerpt however, differentiates from the usual concept. And I need to read the rest of the chapters before the mind loses itself. Therefore, I cannot rate it with stars unless read it full. (The rated stars on this review are only based on the excerpt. )
I enjoyed this Excerpt so much! I cannot wait until the book releases so I can get my hands on the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. It left me yearning for more!
After reading an excerpt from this book, I can't wait to read a final copy. It intrigued me a lot and I didn't expect it
I had only recently heard of this book when I saw this sampler on NetGalley and decided to check it out. Thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for letting me read this excerpt from Havenfall coming next year in March.
This story is a contemporary fantasy about the haven between multiple worlds and this girl who is supposed to protect and guard them.
Maddie loves to go to the Havenfall Inn every summer in Colorado. The Inn is where she gets to see the boy she cares about, Brekken and offers her an escape from her real-life where things aren't always so great. The Inn is a place of great magic that's meant to be safe for everyone who seeks help and protection.
This summer though everything doesn't seem to be going well or normal like previous summers. There is a dead body and questions arise about many things and she has to face truths about Havenfall and herself.
In this excerpt, it introduces the worlds, sets things up, gives background info and we see Maddie arriving at Havenfall to find her Uncle isn't waiting for her like normal and then she runs into a new staffer, Taya, who is on their way to the Inn as well.
I like the background information and settings, with the world being set up of where Havenfall is, and what other worlds are connected to the Inn. Also some background on Maddie, her life and some information on the Inn. It leaves off like many excerpts and samples do right when things start to get more intriguing and leaves you wanting to read the rest of the story and find out what happens.
If this sounds like your sort of thing, then make sure to put it on your list, pre-order it and get it when it comes out next year in March.
Title: Havenfall

Rating: TBD (but for now 3 stars)
This will be a spoiler free review. I downloaded the Excerpt off of NetGalley (as I’m writing this, it’s currently available under READ NOW).
I don’t usually read excerpts because they often make me super excited for a book and then I have to impatiently wait, but I figured, why not, I’m curious. While, I’m not desperately dying to get my hands on this book, I’m excited for it. It sounds really good and the concepts really cool. The excerpt was engaging enough to hook me, and this is why I don’t normally read them.
I’m pretty sure I could have sat on my couch and read the book in one sitting if it had been available.
I’m looking forward to Havenfall. I was a big fan of Everless with Eevermore falling a bit short, but I’m definitely going to be picking up her new book when it comes out!
