I was interested in reading this book to understand more about the economic and political framework for parental leave and the issues that surround it, especially in America. The book is structured like an academic paper with a hypothesis, case studies and conclusion but it is still accessible and readable. The author has gone into detail about the history and evolution of parental leave legislation in Sweden, UK, and USA. The author has some clear opinions and recommendations and she leads us to her reasoning for the recommendations. There are a number of stories / opinions from people in different walks of life and their experience with parental leave, but this feels disjointed, broken up into different sections - this was the only weak section of the book for me which I felt could have done in a much better way to be more engaging and bring more of the story element but in a cohesive way.
