Whisper of Bones is a well written suspense. A good plot guaranteed to pull you immediately into the action. A real edge of your seat book. I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
I truly have a love-hate relation with novella's!!!! It's like you just get started, the book is great than BAM it's over and your like wait...what!!!
I love Melinda Leigh and all her books!!! Her characters are the best and there's always murder, mayhem, twists/turns, with just the right amount of romance.
This was a quick, fast-paced, page turner.

The next story in the Widow's Island series written alternately by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, both excellent writers in the mystery/thriller genre. I have read each book in the series and find that each gets better as the characters mature and develop their skills. You can read each book as a stand alone but the over all story is so much richer if you know how everyone is connected. This story finds our cast of characters working to solve the murder of a property developer that seemed to be able to develop nothing but enemies. While these are a quick read, each is a complete adventure. Love this series!
The more I read of this series the more I love it and this book is absolutely my favorite so far.
Such a bittersweet homecoming for friends has also seen reconnections and new connections, along with a new love? It's also seen murder. Too much murder. So what gives for this island and its inhabitants?
Read more as lifelong friends reconnect, new love blossoms and the island life is more dangerous than ever.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of this and all of the novella series by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot so I couldn’t wait to read this book which is the third in the Widows Island series.
A body gets washed up on the beach in suspicious circumstances and Deputy Sheriff Tessa Black is investigating the case. The victim, a local contractor, has numerous enemies so it’s no easy task to find out who murdered him. Also Deputy Sheriff Black and her friend Cate are still trying to discover what happened to their childhood friend Samantha who disappeared many years before.
Whisper of bones is another fantastic instalment to the series and kept me hooked and guessing the whole way through!
Thanks to NetGalley and Melinda Leigh for the ARC of Whisper Of Bones my review is honest and unbiased in any way.
Another great installment in the Widow’s Island saga. I so enjoy this series due to the interesting characters and story lines. This story is centered around Tessa and Logan’s journey to solve a murder and share more of each other’s lives. I finished this in an afternoon because I had to find out who did it. Normally I can figure it out quick, but the writing was so good you had to wait for the “big reveal”. Loved it!
Once again a great book by this author. I really enjoy reading her mystery books and always look forward to the next one.
I received a digital advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This story was intense. I did really enjoy it. I think my main issue with it was the story felt all over the place. It was by no mean bad, just felt very disheveled. I felt a lot of times I was missing parts of the story.
It was a good story plot though and the characters are very well thought out.
Thank you for allowing me to review this title.
Dark secrets abound as a body washes up on the island’s state park beach and for Deputy Tessa Black, another murder has occurred and it’s a race against the clock to find out what happened as well as who the killer is…before they set their sights on Tessa.
I was mixed about starting the third book in the Widow’s Island series after the meh I got reading books one and two. I gave book three, WHISPER OF BONES, a chance and it was interesting if a tad bit short. What hampers these stories is the length of it. The resolution seems to pat with the page count, and I found it not as satisfying as I would have liked after finishing this quick read. Melinda Leigh is an author I highly enjoy, and she keeps the suspense up in her second Widow’s Island story (the other books are written by author Kendra Drake) and I enjoyed Tessa Black immensely. The story is enjoyable if a bit rushed. I found myself already figuring out things by midway and was a tad disappointed that the author couldn’t keep the suspense going longer but overall it is a good quick read if you are looking for a thriller to pass a few hours away with. I enjoyed reading more about the characters we met in books one and two (Close to the Bone and A Bone to Pick). I am going to try to see where the authors go in these and hope that they will eventually go longer in length to keep the suspense moving.
In WHISPER OF BONES, Tessa Black has another murder on her hands-on Widow’s Island and the victim is one who had a ton of enemies. The key is to see which enemy was the one who killed them. With a killer determined not to be caught, arson and more, Tessa needs all her wits to keep one step ahead of a killer and to bring justice to the victim. I really enjoyed Tessa in this book. She was capable, strong and quite enjoyable. It took a little bit to warm up to her and I enjoyed reading about her family and love life to break apart the mystery a little. The characters are enjoyable and intriguing if at times a little flat just due to the novella length of the series. I look forward to seeing where the author(s) go in this series now that the third book kept my attention better than the first two.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement
These novellas have been an interesting trip to Widow's Island. The premise of the two chicks friends reuniting has been really good and there has been just a touch of romance. Since these are general fiction there is more language and gore than I'm used to in my typical Christian fiction, but it isn't too bad. This book does mention sexual intimacy, but it is thankfully not described.
I'm enjoying the mystery in each novella and also getting to know the recurring characters. But there are a lot of times where things are described a little too explicitly and I almost feel like there is a sentence from a textbook throw in.
Overall this was a good novella and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
We return to Widow's Island with Deputy Tessa Black and Forest Ranger Logan to solve the murder of a body that washes up on the state park beach. This is a quick but engaging suspenseful story., I am just loving this series and highly recommend it.
Its time for Book 4 of the Widow's Island novella series. While out kayaking a body is found washed up on the beach. How he got there isnt known. As Tessa works the case, its found out the victim wasnt a nice man. Plenty of people could be the killer. All through out the books we have been taken back to when Tessa and her friends were young. Their friend Samantha went missing and all these years later its still unsolved. By the end of this installment we have some news on the case. For the best enjoyment of this series. I suggest reading the novella's in order. Highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense. ARC requested from Net Galley. This is my voluntary review.
From the beginning of this book, the intrigue level started building up, it totally captivated my interest from the finding of the body. You can tell the medical aspects of this story were well researched. I like the comradery between Kurt, Cate, Tessa, The Doc Henry, and Logan, they work like a well-run team. Me and my carelessness I should have red Bred to the Bones first, I hate it when this happens, it’s like reading the end of the book before the beginning, bummer. I love this book its pages have hypnotized me and I’m enjoying it.
When a body washes up on the state park beach, Deputy Tessa Black’s experience as a former Seattle detective tells her that the death was not an accident. All evidence points to another murder on the remote island.
And so this quick read covers the investigation to find the killer. There are many suspects and a lot of people who wanted him dead. The victim is a contractor who no one liked.
As Tessa’s investigation heats up, arson and a vicious assault convince her the killer is desperate to hide his crime—and that she’d better solve the case before he claims another victim. This was a quick read and an enjoyable one.

I really enjoyed this latest instalment in the series of novellas.
Just enough to keep you enthralled with an ending that I did not see coming.
Looking forward to the next one to see if the cold case is solved.
I love Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot book series Widow's Island!! This one focuses on a body that washes up on a beach and the tangled web of lies, suspects, and enemies that goes along with it. A great quick read that leaves you guessing who the killer is until the end. Love!
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Deputy Tessa is task on investigating when a body of a man wash up shore and we learn he a contractor and his name is Jason McCoy.
At first it's looks like accident that he fell off his boat but when Henry examine him they learn he was murder because of his injuries and he was move. There are lot of twist and turns he had a lot if enemies that wanted him dead and I won't go into details because this read like you was watching a cop show.
I like the mystery of this story and the romance between Tessa and Logan was ok because it didn't over power the book which was about who will kill Jason and why. I like seeing Cate who is Logan sister and Tessa bestfriend who is a FBI agent and is also involve with Henry who the doctor in town also inherited the role of coroner.
An interesting thriller with well-developed and relatable characters as usual in Melinda Leigh’s stories, “Whisper of Bones” (Montlake Romance) is a quick read, perfect for a cozy autumn evening.
A strong heroine – Tessa, a deputy – and her love interest – Logan, a former Army Ranger, dealing with PTSD and the memories of the horrors of war – feature in this book, where a long-time mystery is yet to be solved.
The setting – Widow’s Island, Pacific Northwest – the slightly damaged characters, the romantic couple’s strong and steady relationship, make this a great read.
I love the novella's by Kendra Elliot and Megan Leigh. I love the setting in the Pacific Northwest, and It is well described. If you ever get a chance to visit Blaine WA, you should go. It is similar to the fictional town in the book. This is a great series, so great that you wish the novels were full length, so you could spend more time with the characters, but despite the shortness the story is robust and comes full circle. In this story, Tessa, and Cate have some stunning breakthroughs on finding their long lost friend, Sam. It is definitely a page turner, and you will savor every word, not wanting the story to end:)
Tessa and Logan head out to Camilla island to check on a body that was washed ashore. Tessa has moved back home to care for her momma who is suffering from dementia.
Jumped right into the suspense, great chemistry between characters. Good sort read.first one of series that I have read. Definitely, reading more.
