"Sands Rising" is a story with interesting characters that are believable and well written. It's unfortunately bogged down by the plot that doesn't seem to really go anywhere. The characters are the reason I'm scoring it as highly as I am but I hope that, in the future, I can read more from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. The basis for the story is quite plausible. The characters are believable and interact well with each other. The overall pace of the story was plodding and kept me from getting excited about what the next page will bring. Good idea, bad execution.

Sands Rising is well written, with a cast of interesting, relatable characters that are often flawed and occasionally very funny. Those qualities kept me turning the pages because I kept hoping that the story was actually going to go somewhere. In the end it just didn’t. The story told in Sands Rising just absolutely, positively, did not work for me. It very well may for others but, for me, it was a complete dud.
Sands Rising by H. M. Wilhelmborn. Chilling futuristic tale of global crisis and the ravages of climate change. Well presented and thought provoking. Story is told from the perspective of Janet Virdis, her life and work. An intense family drama with political overtones, centering on weather related disasters that have destroyed large parts of southern California turning it into a desert climate. If the ravages of climate changes weren't enough there a mysterious virus that is spreading and with no known cure, that is killing teenage boys.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
