This was such a great book! Camille Pagán continues to impress with each new novel. THIS WON’T END WELL is full of fun, quirky (yes, it really is the perfect word), and lovable characters, led by Annie, the main character.
Annie’s life is imploding around her: her former boss is a snake, she’s lost her job and her career for the next two years and her fiancé tells her on the way to the airport that he’s going to France for a month and not to contact him during that time. What’s scientific-minded Annie to do? Swear off new people to start, maybe even some old friends, while she processes what’s happening in her life and figures out what to do next since nothing is going according to the future she has mapped out.
We all know what happens to best-laid plans. An interesting new neighbor catches her eye, and while she’s trying to figure her out, she meets Mo lurking in the bushes. Drawn into two new friendships and finally starting to understand those relationships already in her life, and, with their support, Annie starts to uncover the person she is meant to be. Told through texts, emails, and Annie’s journal entries this book kept me laughing and turning pages quickly.
There is so much to love about this book. Pagán has a knack for creating characters and stories that worm their way into your heart. I loved immersing myself in Annie’s journey. THIS WON’T END WELL is headed to my keeper shelf and I can’t wait to see what Camille Pagán does next.

This is a story that happens every day. A fiancée/boyfriend needs to “find himself”. A workplace situation becomes untenable and unemployment is the result. A best friend doesn’t’’ “get it”, doesn’t apologize and a close friendship is put on hold. The perception that a parent’s needs are paramount or is it an excuse?! And what about the wedding favors and a cake tasting appointment?

Told in an easily identifiable, logical, and very humorous narrative, I admired Annie’s desire for predictability and her inability to obtain it. Her journaling was the perfect mechanism to allow us into her inner most thoughts and her self-assessment. Her “no new people” theorem was as ridiculous as it was hilarious as she trips over a new neighbor and a peeping tom.

This was a very clever book by a very talented writer. Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for a copy

Annie's life is about to implode (which is fitting since she's a chemist) but so not fun when it's her life instead of an experiment. Her boss, Todd, has been sexually harassing her, she's living with her mom because she's worried about her health, and her fiancé, Jon, has left on an impromptu trip to Paris... without even asking her to join him! In order to cope and in turn, avoid getting hurt again, she's decided to avoid anyone new in her life. But, of course, as we all know, life doesn't always go as planned and not one, but two, new people soon enter her life.

"This is the problem with making a habit of a person: all of the neural pathways he has carved remain long after he's gone."

Ironically, since the book is written mostly in first person account journal entries, I the reader inadvertently became a new person in Annie's life! Luckily, just like her other new friend Harper, I was a positive influence and extremely supportive of her decisions. Wink wink.

I've been a fan of this author since she first started writing and love that her characters are so real and relatable. Epistolary novels are my jam, and this one was extremely effective in its delivery. I found myself rooting for Annie as she tried to decide what comes next. Even though the title implies that things won't end well for her, once Annie decides to make decisions that are right for her, it's smooth sailing ahead! If you love books with strong female leads (especially if they are raw and human and falter at times just like us), then be sure to try this one.

If I had to describe this book in one word it would be QUIRKY, and I love a good quirky novel.

Annie Mercer has what is probably one of the worst weeks of her life. She is laid off from her job as a chemist for false claims of misconduct against a colleague who just happens to be the owner of the company. Annie's fiancé Jon also decides to leave for France on a month-long sabbatical that does not include taking Annie with him. As Annie is left to pick up the pieces of her life, she evaluates old relationships and the benefit of forging new relationships.

I absolutely adored this novel. I found it to be quirky, witty and charming all at the same time. There were so many “laugh out loud” moments for me with the varied cast of characters.

This is the first Camille Pagan novel I have read and let’s just say that I will be picking up her backlist novels soon!

This one was a breath of fresh air, I’ve had a super weird reading month, I’m a little all over the place and this was one of the handful of books I read in February that I truly enjoyed. It was fun, fresh and heartfelt and full of so many hilarious moments that it was just such an amusing read.

CP never disappoints when it comes to relatable characters and while I’m not quite as done with other people as Annie is, I’m pretty close 🤣 Seriously though, I’m not a fan of change either and when life throws Annie a curveball I could relate to how she handles herself. She’s a quirky woman and I loved her dry wit and humor and then in the authors true fashion there was a delightful cast of supporting characters who all brought something unique to the story. This book was just so much fun and such a fast, breezy read, I loved it!

Camille Pagan was a new to me author last year and I have to say she is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book which tells the story of Annie, an out of work chemist who is trying to figure out her next steps in life. Her story is told through her journal entries and emails. Her fiance has recently left to go find himself in Paris for a month, leaving Annie alone to try and come to terms with her feelings for him. She's also trying to figure out what to do with her career as she was let go due to a sexual harassment incident (not her fault!)

Annie decides she wants to be a hermit and ignore other people, but people just have a way of entering her life. She meets two new friends who expand her world and make her see all the possibilities that are out there for her. A charming and funny read...highly recommend!

Camille Pagan does it again! This Won’t End Well was a fun, lighthearted, entertaining read while still touching on some important topics. I found myself constantly bouncing between how I wanted it to end for Annie. Definitely recommend!

Annie is a delight and so are the cast of characters that she brings into her life. Annie is by a fault logical and it helps her in her job at a lab but it doesn’t really help in the emotional spaces.

When her fiancé leaves to find himself in Paris and she finds herself with free time, Annie vows to not let new people into her life. As you can guess that really doesn’t hold true.


What Ms. Pagan does so well is show how people can evolve even when they think they can’t. It doesn’t have to be major changing but sometime little changes make huge differences.

Annie’s life has recently taken a turn for the worse. Her fiancé has just up and left for Paris, WITHOUT HER! She has lost her job as a chemist because of a supreme *$#@**. Now she is cleaning houses to try and make ends meet. Annie decides she is just going to take a break from everyone. However, this doesn’t work out as well as she wants it to. She has a new neighbor, Harper. Harper sets off alarm bells and Annie just cannot seem to stay out of Harper’s business.

Annie tickled the mess out of me. She just can’t seem to get it together. She is smart and efficient, but things just keep twisting around and creating havoc in her life. Does she take this lying down….oh never! She continues to try and get her life back on track. And it is a challenge!

This is a cute and entertaining story. It moves quickly and you just can’t help but be captivated by all of Annie’s antics. Sometimes you just need a light hearted book to get you through. This tale hit the spot!

This is book is a breakthrough to me. I instantly love the story and the characters. This is a sweet and at the same time painful reading. It depicts loss, hope, and love. This kind of story is so relatable that you won't want to put it down. You just want to go and experience and keep their worlds. Includes sexual harassment, depression things but that is i think the beauty of this, to overcome and survive all the painful things that comes your way. An excellent writing and writer. Will share all the love regarding this book.

This is such a fun read with some depth, by another author who just delivers every time. When Annie's fiance Jon up and leaves for Paris, I was interested to find out why and along for the journey of where things would take her. I thought the mixture of formats - a combination of emails back and forth as well as Annie's diary entries - added a nice touch and twist that I hadn't seen before from this author. Another thing that I loved were the career questions, and the journey she had around that - those were some of the strongest parts of the book for me. The only thing I struggled with were seeing the romantic connections, I just didn't quite get it. The ending though was perfect. If you have liked any of Camille Pagan's other books, I definitely recommend picking up this one as well.

This book was a delight. Don't we all want to swear off all people sometimes? I completely identified with Annie feeling like her life was falling apart and just needing to breathe.

Her dry humor and unintentionally open mind (to before everyone from the girl-y girl next door to the 80 year old down the street) and was really rooting for her in the end.

This Won't End Well is a cute and quirky novel by Camille Pagan. Annie's world has been turned upside down. First she lost her job then her fiance Jon took off to Paris for a month to get his head on straight before their wedding. Annie makes a pact to not let any new people in her life while Jon is away, so that she won't get hurt again. But then she notices the glamorous new neighbor next door and then the private investigator who is spying on her new neighbor. And she can't help but get caught up in making not one but two new friends while waiting for Jon to come back to her. When he does come back, Annie realizes that she has changed. Have her feelings for Jon changed as well?

The writing in this novel is clever and witty, The whole story is told using e-mails, journal entries and (my favorite) a forums from a neighborhood website similar to Nextdoor. Annie is a quirky scientist who tends to see the world in scientific terms, and her character was a bit brusque and unlikeable at times. But she grew on me as the story went on. I did love her matter of fact, sarcastic observations about things like essential oils and healing crystals and direct sales companies! So funny!!

I really enjoyed this book through the first half. But the story slowed down quite a bit in the second half, and there was just not enough happening to hold my interest. I found myself skimming towards the end just to finish it. Perhaps it is due to the nature of Annie's character and personality, but I didn't really feel connected to the romantic parts of this story. I was indifferent to who she ended up with in the end, because I didn't feel strong feelings for either of her relationships in this book. But it was a very promising start, and I did enjoy the humorous and clever tone to the writing. The writing style is reminiscent of Where'd You Go Bernadette and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

I am a huge fan of Camille Pagan and I was super excited to read "This Won't End Well".

Where to begin with all the things I LOVED about this book?
Its women's fiction at its finest. The story is mystery as much as it is romance.
The story is fast paced and laugh out loud!

The epistolary writing style is one of my favorites and the authors use of this writing style tells the story in journaling entries , neighborhood letters (cue the I laughed until I cried), and emails.

A well written , fun read with a characters that are relatable and loveable.

Annie is having a stressful time in her life. Her fiancee suddenly announces he needs time to think and leaves for Paris for a month. He also asks Annie not to contact him while he's gone. Annie quits her job as a chemist and starts to clean houses because her HR rep does not believe Annie was sexually harassed by her boss. She's moved in with her mother to help her mother battle depression. Then some new people come into Annie's life and they help her rethink her situation.

This story in told via emails, journal entries, and a few text messages. The journal entries include conversations so it is a mix between a journal entry and traditional writing. I loved this style of writing. It tells the story completely from Annie's viewpoint and you can see what is going through her mind.

While Annie has sworn off new people, she meets her new neighbor and a private investigator. They both are vital to the story and help Annie see things in a different way. They take her on new adventures. I loved watching Annie grow throughout this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a strong character to root for. It is also great for the different writing style using primarily emails and journal entries.

What an absolute wonderful and delightful book to read! Great book for book clubs for serious and delightful conversations! Truly a must read!

I enjoyed this cute story about Annie Mercer whose life was quickly spiraling down the drain. Annie went from enjoying her rewarding career as a chemist and looking forward to a fabulous engagement with her fiancée Jon to losing her job, banned from any chemist job for the next few years, to working as a housekeeper, with a fiancée that has gone MIA in France for some soul searching.

This is truly a feel good story about a woman who finds her voice and learns to follow her heart and find strength in the decisions she would make to improve her life for the better. I found Pagán’s writing to be witty, funny, relatable and hopeful. I find her words easy to read, story well paced, characters lovable and a feel good story with a feel good conclusion.

I recommend this fun women’s literature for a touching story with fun and lovable characters!!

I love Camille Pagan and this newest book from her did not disappoint. While it wasn't my favorite of her's it was very enjoyable. I loved all of the characters and how they played off of each other. I would love to see a book with Harper as the main character and see more of her story. The ending was so satisfying, even though I couldn't decide who I wanted Annie to end up with as I was reading. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun read that isn't all fluff.

I have never read Camille Pagan before this book, but she is a fun and energetic writer! Annie's story is fierce, yet sweet. Annie's character reminded me a bit of my son, who is on the spectrum, so I liked her immensely. This quirky and heartwarming story is one that made me smile throughout. This was a light read, however it was difficult for me to get through solely because this wasn't my type of book, but I am certain that it would be many readers' cup of tea!
