This was another fun to read mystery by the author. However, again this is not a good stand alone book. Many references are made to the past book in this series and much of the storyline would be lost if the reader did not read the previous books in this series. The writer needs some lessons on how to integrate past books into a cohesive stand alone book.
Gibson Vaughn is an appealing lead character. I have enjoyed the series, and I enjoyed Origamii Man. The skills the various operators show kept my interest, and the plot to destabilize the pharmaceutical industry at the expense of half a million lives was compelling. This novel was one of my favorites and I thank NetGalley for the ARC.
I read books #1-4 back to back so I was a little worried I might have forgotten some of the details but I was able to remember most of the important stuff and fell right back into the world of Gibson, Jenn, Hendricks, & George. I continue to really enjoy FitzSimmons' writing, he gets right to the point and you get pulled right into the adventure!
Disclosure. I am one of the sales reps for this title.
Having said that I bought the first book in the series, The Short Drop, before I represented this publisher. There are now five in the series and I have enjoyed them all.
I have been thinking about this entry since I finished it. :Paradoxically I have come to the conclusion that I did not like it as much as any of the previous four BUT it made me more anxious than ever to find out what comes next.
This title is not a cliff hanger but we are following the lives of multiple interesting characters and with this novel the characters have become more interesting to me than the specific plot.
Another knock out by Matthew FitzSimmons. I really enjoy the Gibson Vaughn novels. I think the fact that Gibson is a little quirky and unique adds to the intrigue of these novels. The hacker aspect also makes things interesting because it limits the type of situations but also adds a modern swing to them. The team of Jenn, Gibson, and Co. also teams well together and feed off each other well. The biggest like for me is the fact that the novel jumps right in. There is no large introductions, it gets to the point and gets going.
Thank you to Matthew FitzSimmons, Netgalley, and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with an advanced reading copy.
Great twisted tale. I was definitely invested in this book until the very end. This is my first read by the author, but will not be my last.
I've been waiting anxiously for Matt FitzSimmons to release his next book and Origami Man does not disappoint.
It's been a while since we've heard from the George, Jenn, Dan and Gibson and I wondered if I would remember the previous stories, even though they have been atop by favorites list. I need not have worried at the authors has brought readers a brief refresher on how these 4 people came to on the run but in a subtle way.
The book opens with a dangerous man named Tinsley who has been patiently waiting for his target to come home. We know nothing of this character or his target - only that Tinsley is brilliant, ruthless and an assassin. How and why unfolds quickly in the first chapter. On the second, the story takes off in a way that I never expected. So many loose ends from the prior books make sense but our group is in serious peril when they have to make a deal with the devil - Tinsley himself. Time is of the essence and the lives of millions of people are at stake - as our our heroes.
Fitzsimmons weaves an amazingly strong story around the personalities and lies of the people we have come to know over the years and while we may not know that much about Tinsley, I suspect his intrusion into the lives of these people will have a lasting effect. Will they be able to save millions without losing their own lives? You'll have to read is an see how profoundly affected they are because of this latest mission.
I highly recommend this book and thank Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for allowing me the preview.
