A hard hitting book on domestic abuse that definitely contains a lot of triggers. Very well written with a massive twist at the end that I didn’t see coming!
Keeperby Jessica Moor is a gripping and thought-provoking thriller that delves into themes of abuse, power dynamics, and the resilience of the human spirit . The story follows the intertwining lives of its characters: Katie, a young woman found dead in a local river, and the women of the refuge who seek solace and safety from their own traumatic experiences.
The characters are vividly drawn, their struggles and triumphs portrayed with empathy and authenticity. As the story unfolds, Moor explores the complexities of abusive relationships and the profound impact they have on individuals and communities.
Thus book was a dnf for me I just couldn't get into it at all Im not sure what the issue was but it wasn't captivating my attention or kept me interested
At first I did struggle with this book due to the topic but saying that it did persevere with it and it was a powerful read. It was worth it .
Thank you to both the publishers and NetGalley for gifting me the book.
I very much enjoyed this dark, tense psychological thriller. At the beginning of the book, Katie is found dead. The story then weaves back and forth in time, gradually revealing what happened to her. Very disturbing in parts, (definitely not recommended for victims of domestic violence) gripping and well written.
Difficult one to read at because of the subject at hand but well written and definitely recommend.
Thank you Publisher and Netgalley
A good novel that kept me hooked with the story of Katie both then and now. An important message. Thanks for the opportunity to read
This is a powerful and assured character driven debut from Jessica Moor, looking at the tragic, secretive and harrowing complex world of domestic violence
Great read! Looking forward to reading more from this author! I highly recommend this book and author to all!
I really struggled with this book I am afraid and ended up skimming through the majority of it.
Thank you for the opportunity.
Did not finish and therefore. I will not be reviewing on any platforms due to not finishing this book.
I will rate 1 star for the purpose of this feedback, but will not be rating this book on any social media platforms or our blog.
This book and the characters didn't grab me at all, and sadly I couldn't finish. The premise of the story was really good but the execution lacked for me.
I want to thank you for the opportunity to review.
Fabulous plot which I could not put down. Brilliant characters, and twists and turns. Highly recommend to other fans of this genre!!
Difficult to read at times because of the subject matter but very well written and well handled. i wouldn't class it as a thriller as it's quite slow-paced and despite the split narrative, there isn't a huge amount of tension. That said, I did enjoy it and the ending actually shocked me. I will look out for more from the author!
Thank you for the advanced copy of this book.
I struggled with this and started and put it down twice, but eventually on the third attempt managed to read all the way through. Although it was well written and a good storyline it wasn't for me, hence the 3 stars.
I've got to 34% and I'm just not feeling this book.
It's very slow and not grabbing my attention enough. There's way too many characters for me to get my head round and of course our dead character doesn't exist.
I do like the mystery, who is Katie? And the Women's Refuge element but I was expecting thriller and I'm not getting the thrills 🙈
I've seen great reviews and people do highly recommend this one. But for me it's just not grabbed me enough to continue.
A very disturbing, emotional and shocking novel about control and abuse that at times left me numb.
Actually very well written with multiple layers of story, feelings and perspectives from the young and vulnerable to the old, hardened detective.
I recommend this read but may leave you feeling uncomfortable and upset.
I was bit undecided about it but thought i give it ago anyway.
Im glad it did as i really enjoyed it.
A great book that tackles sensitive subjects very well. Believable characters give the story real depth. Definitely thought provoking.
The book was great, however I felt like it was missing something. I couldn't get fully into it, I felt like it was missing something. However, the book was written.
Being highlighted as a buzzbook, I was very intrigued to read this. It is also blurbed by one of my fav authors, Val McDermid. And this is a well written story, but with serious trigger warnings. A dark and gripping thriller debut about domestic violence towards women that will leave a lasting impression on the reader. I still think about the book. Looking forward to what this author does next.
