It wanted to be intense but lost it about half way through the book. Good on a surface level type of read.

Ahhhhhhh this was just such a wonderful book and I just thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn’t want to put this book down. I just fell in love with this wonderful story and it’s wonderful characters. I will most definitely be reading more stories from this wonderful author.

I hadn’t read the first book in this series, am not particularly a fan of paranormal romance, and had not read anything else by the author. So why did I pick this one up? I’m not sure, except the blurb sounded interesting and I was looking for a change in my reading lineup. And I’m glad I took the chance. This was a really great read, with engaging characters, wonderful world-building and lots of action and intrigue. If anything, I might have liked a bit more romance, but all in all it was a compelling read and I’m looking forward to checking out more books in the series. Kat and Ryker were a great pair, and I loved their banter. They form an uneasy alliance and it was so much fun to watch the two of them together. And the world the author has created was so interesting that I’m anxious to check out more of her books and get back into that world. I highly recommend this one.

Kat hunts vampires, she is on a vendetta to destroy all vampires starting with the King, the one she blames for killing her parents.

Ryker is searching for the vampire King and Kat’s only chance at finding him too. It’s a wary truce, since Ryker is looking to help save the King and Kate wants to kill him but they team up to accomplish their goals. They are hunting while something is hunting them. Of course, attraction ensues and adversaries become lovers along the way.

The story is fast paced and has lots of action. Night’s Kiss had everything I should have loved in a paranormal romance and here comes the but… But, I didn’t connect with the characters or their plight. I also wasn’t feeling the connection between Kate and Ryker with all their baggage brought into the plot. In the end, this was an okay read for me. I liked it, it was entertaining, it just didn’t hit the wow factor for me.

I received this ARC copy of Night's Kiss from Entangled Publishing, LLC - Entangled: Amara. This is my honest and voluntary review.

So, I was a little surprised with Night’s Kiss. We were back in Meier’s Corners but with a woman who truly hated vampires. Hmmm, where was this going? Why would Mary Hughes make me work for a happy ending? Well, I got my answers with a couple of surprises.
Kat. Well Kat was really kind of annoying. She was always right. She always wanted to work alone. She didn’t trust anyone but her sister. And, she was driven by revenge. When faced with the truth about who she is and where she came from, she just rejects it all. She. Hates. Vampires. And, she makes sure everyone knows it. But, there is something about Ryker and his personality. She trusts him then she doesn’t. But, she’s doing the same thing that she accuses him of … keeping clues away from him. Until the time comes where she can’t anymore and she not only gets the surprise of her life but finds out that she fell in love with the one thing she hates the most in the world. VAMPIRE.
Ryker was kind of funny. Well, the characters he played were. Until it was time to get serious and find the King of the Vampires. Yes, he is keeping things away from Kat. He knows that if she knows the truth, she’ll hate him. He will do whatever he has to do to find Elias, he’ll keep her safe and then he will walk away. He was never meant to find his mate. But, Kat surprises him, she intrigues him and he can’t control her. Now what does he do? I always enjoy Mary Hughes’ stories, her characters, her imagination. It takes a lot of creative thinking to come up with paranormal stories that have drama, humor and love. And, she worked really hard and had to get very inventive for me to like Kat in the end. But, she did it. What she did to Elias was really surprising and, sorry, funny. Hopefully he’ll be his old, confusing and demanding self again. She surrounded Kat with characters we love and then gave us Ryker to love as well.
A true Mary Hughes story that was a little bit dark, a little bit amusing and a whole lot of fun to read.

As a human who hunts vampires, I risk death each night I take to the streets. Bloodsuckers are stupidly fast. I have only my wits, my practice, and my weapons. Oh yeah, and my rage. Vampires killed my parents before my eyes when I was young. My revenge? I'll destroy every last one of the evil bastards, starting with their king. But only one man can help me locate the king. Achingly tall, dark, and too-sexy-for-his-own-good, Ryker is gorgeous enough to be the vamp king himself. But the devilish arch to his black eyebrow, his white, unfangy grin, and rocking the daytime are good clues that he's human. We’ll have to work together as uneasy allies if I hope to get my final revenge on the king—only now it seems evil monsters are also after our prey, and they’ll stop at nothing to see us all dead. And why are they having so much trouble finding the king?
This was a decent enough read. I had never read this author before and the premise sounded right up my alley. However, I didn’t like Kat nor how Ryker was around her. I originally compared her to Seline from Underworld, who I TOTALLY love but with Kat, she simply was too out there with her hatred of vampires. I did like the action in the second half though. I am going to track down another book from this author to try as the writing itself was good.

Kat is a vampire hunter, having had her family killed by a bunch of bloodsuckers. Kat is making it her mission to kill the vampire king. Kat runs into Ryker, who is searching for the vampire king for his own reasons. Kat assumes that Ryker is human, hello, he can seemingly wander around in the sun. Both Kat and Ryker have their own hang ups and emotional baggage. Both are a couple of "I work alone" types, slow to trust.

Kat is also introduced to long last family that she didn't know she had. She's a bit clueless since her long lost family have hooked up with and into the vampire culture.

Good story to build her relationship with Ryker and her newly discovered extended family. Kat has to challeger herself and put her own beliefs to the test about the blood suckers. Will go and read others in this series.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Night Kiss is a slow burn Paranormal action romance.
Kat is a vampire hunter after the death of her adoptive family at the hands of rogue vampires.
Consequently, she hates all bloodsuckers and goes by the motto the only good one is a dead one.
Ryker is an ancient vampire with many tricks to his arsenal, after the recent disappearance of his friend and nemesis Elias he's hot on the trail, Elias is another ancient and king to boot.
Both Ryker and Kat have the same goal obtaining the vampire king, but kat wants to annihilate him while Ryker wants to rescue him.
Incognito and hiding his true nature Ryker teams up with Kat and as the two join forces for the search they begin to grow closer.
So I took a while to become invested here and I think that might have been because of the characters themselves.
Kat was totally blinkered in her hatred of the undead almost with a zealot mindset that I found extremely closeminded and irritating at times.
I get her past but at times she was a little over the top and confrontational she also didn't listen to any logic whatsoever acting on impulse instead of sense.
Ryker, for the most part, I liked him but again he was a little too wishy-washy in his interactions with Kat I wanted him to be less apologetic and more a force to be reckoned with after all he was a centuries-old vampire.
I did get more invested in the unfolding drama the further I went with this it just took a while to get there.
The first half of this was a tad slow but the second part made up for it and then it was action-packed right until the finale
This also was quite low on the heat concentrating more on the action rather than the romance.
In conclusion, this was a good read that despite some slight issues I did find enjoyable and I would recommend.

Oh wow! Loved this book. Kat is one badassed vampire hunter. Ryker is one badassed vampire, but to Kat is a yummy PI. As they battle looking for the king of the vampires, Ryker to save, Kat to kill, how is he going to tell Kat what he is!

A decent enough book, Night's Kiss followed vampire hunter Kat as she takes down rogue vampires on a quest for vengeance after vampires killed her parents when she was a kid. Bring in ancient vampire Ryker and sparks fly, just not necessarily the ones Kat was expecting.
The story is good, fairly typical vampire romance so it's a little predictable. I thought both main characters were stubborn loners who eventually overcome their egos to let someone in but are a little annoying until they get there. Some of the characteristics of the vampires are a little different than your run-of-the-mill vampire stories so that at least added a little something different. I'll give it four stars though really 3.5 is probably most accurate in my opinion.

If you love slow burn romances or just vampires in general, take a bite out of this one!

When a vampire hunter begins to fall for her prey, her vengeance on her family's killers are put in the spotlight. Even though she teams with a steamy vampire, their goals are not exactly the same..

It is one of those stories that took me awhile to really get invested in, so I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The slow-burn really fit with the plot, and I was just dying for them to finally get their feelings out! During the second half, I was definitely on the edge of my seat!

I have to admit I’m completely geeking out. I’m a tad picky when it comes PNR reads. As I tend to repeat, ad nauseam *smirks*, I’m a PNR girl to my very core (it’s a dark, dark place *snorts*). So, as you can imagine, it takes a lot for me to come over all unnecessary.

I FREAKING loved Night’s Kiss.

Cue girlish squeals.

*coughs*

I apologise.

I don’t know what’s come over me. *blushes*

Well, now you’ve said it...

(Uh-oh, I’m talking about myself in the third person again – never a good sign *shakes head*.)

Sorry, sorry! I was about to lower the tone (gutter level) and make a very unladylike comment about Ryker there. I shall do my very best to resist.

Now, where was I? *taps chins*

Oh yes... It’s hard to come across a vampire story which feels fresh and new. Yet, Mary Hughes has given a whole new spin on the vampire legend. Vamp lore interwoven in history = a very happy Laura.

This story is chock full of epic fight scenes, witty repartee, smoking hot chemistry and a kick-ass heroine who, as much as I loved her, will grate on your last nerve with how stubborn she can be at times.

Someone seriously needs to explain to Kat that when you mix black and white, which is bound to happen, that you get a little grey *snorts*.

*nods*

Yup, some shouting may have ensued from my end at the characters. But, did they listen? Pfft, what do you think? *rolls eyes*

The intensity in the smexy scenes had me holding my breath while my kindle sizzled. I. Honest. To. God. Forgot how to breathe. I thought I was gonna burst something. It’s amazing what happens when you *coughs* slow things down *winks*.

*sighs*

Forget all you thought you knew – prepare to be swept away by Night’s Kiss.

Night's Kiss by Mary Hughes is the story of Kat and Ryker.
Kat is a Vampire killer who was set on this path when her parents were killed by them. Now she is out to get Elias the King of the Vampires. Kat trust no one really so when Ryker enters the picture. Ryker has the same goal to find Elias but he wants to save him where Kat wants the opposite. Ryker has to keep that and other things from her which of course Kat knows he is hiding things. But what they end up both facing is that they are very much attracted to each other.
Exciting read.

Kat is on a mission and it leads her to Meier's Corners, where fate likes to smack the newest residents with an alternate reality jolt.
Ryker "appears" to help her with a gang of rogues and things get interesting.
This is a novel with females who can kick keister and defend what is theirs along with their mates.
Can cause the urge to pace while reading and give a new admiration for various forms of weaponry!
Very intense and edge of the seat action that will wield many twists and revelations.
A definite must read for a pure adrenaline fix!

The second book in ‘Ancients Series’ is an energetic, thrilling and exciting read full of flying sparks and adrenaline pumping danger. The characters are strong, daring and demand the readers’ attention right from the start and the chemistry between Kat and Ryker sizzles with bright electrical current creating lots of flying sparks to singe the pages as Kat fights their magnetic attraction with some feisty snark and tough as nails attitude. This relationship is balanced on a razor wire that keeps the hero, heroine and the readers on edge throughout as Kay and Ryker, each have the same mission but the their goals are vastly different.

The plot is fast paced with non-stop excitement whether that excitement is coming from clashes between Kat and Ryker, Kat and her long lost family, Kat and her targets, Ryker and the Alliance, or Kat, Ryker and the monsters. With so much action and excitement flowing from the pages, there is never a dull moment to be found and the romance is one where the hero and heroine are the last to know.

I enjoyed this read but I did have some issues with it. To start I want to say that this is a standalone read but in my opinion you will have a better reading experience if you have read other books from this series and the Biting Love series. Characters reappear, places are revisited and events are referenced from previous books and I think if you just jump in you are going to feel a bit lost and confused. So many of the things that I really enjoy about the books in this series and the tie in series, Biting Love are here: the complex world building, unique characters, laugh out loud humor, intrigue, drama, heat, heart and a hunky vampire hero that is very swoon worthy. Unfortunately, I felt the book was lacking in the chemistry department and I thought that the heroine was very hard to like. I really wanted to and I kept trying but I never succeeded. I felt bad for Kat because her history was painful and I could understand her walls and need for vengeance. In the end though, her extreme prejudices and cold actions made her just too witchy for my liking. As for Ryker, I thought he fit in quite well with the other heroes from these books but he also had some emotional baggage and when combined with Kat's, I think it put a huge damper on the chemistry and connection I would have liked to feel between these two. I thought the basic storyline was interesting though and it held my attention well with heavy doses of mystery, suspense and action. So, while I didn't think this was a homerun, I still thought it was a very good read and I look forward to the next book in the series.

❤️ out of 5
I’ve read a lot of vampires (and I mean A LOT). I’ve read so many different takes on the lore and at this point I feel like I can’t be surprised any more.... well this one definitely threw it out of the park that’s for sure. But the lore distracted and confused me so much I couldn’t concentrate on the rest of the book. Vamp faces turning into armour? Heads detaching and reattaching? It was just too much for me.

The heroine is a vampire hunter- as in not just killing the bad ones but all of them. Our hero is a vampire looking for his vampire best friend when he runs into our heroine who is also hunting his friend. The heroine takes him for human so they team up to find his friend.

Now maybe if the main characters and their connection had been more compelling (as in more compelling than looking at paint dry) I would have kept reading but I called it quits at 25% and I’m glad. Sorry but this one was just not for me.

A vampire who has been alone for centuries meets a vampire hunter who is out for revenge on behalf of her murdered family. Ryker and Kat are both used to being alone. So, when they meet each other and realize they are both searching for the vampire king, they decide reluctantly to work together. Kat does not know Ryker is a vampire and Ryker is not telling.

With this monstrous secret between them as they search for the vampire king, and so many enemies tracking and trying to destroy them, can anything more be in store for these two lonely souls? Or will lies and enemies tear them apart forever?

This story started slow for me but the placed picked up quickly. The intrigue and the mystery had me truly excited. I also loved this couple something fierce. They are each so vulnerable and lonely in their own way.

Ryker really captured my heart. He is protective, chivalrous and kind. Regardless of what Kat thinks of his kind, he goes to bat for her, protects her but also lets her be herself. He never tries to clip her wings. He know she is a vampire hunter and yet he is still so proud with how smart and resilient she is. He treats her like a true equal.

Kat is brash and brave. She does not shy away from a fight and she will protect her sister no matter the cost. Her fall for Ryker is gradual but so sweet.

Together they fight a formidable foe. The action and the suspense was notched up several degrees during these times and I enjoyed every second.

I would have enjoyed the story even more if our couple had a little more time together. As well, I found Ryker’s history was only vaguely explained and I would have enjoyed seeing it more fleshed out. I also found it difficult to understand the science that explained the difference between human and vampire. This little area was glossed over as it went over my head.

With that being said, I still definitely recommend this book. The intrigue, mystery as well as the various characters make for one entertaining read!

I also must say I’m very intrigued to read the vampire kings story.

I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Kat is bent on revenge She intends to destroy every vampire that she comes across and is actively searching for them Then she gets an ally in Ryker he is gorgeoius and she would be suspicious he was a vampire if it wasn't for the fact that he has no fangs and he is out in the daylight He can help her find the vampire king so she can destroy him but they will have to work together because others are also trying to destroy him as well As emotion and attraction builds between Kat and Ryker she may get a shock she isn't bargaining for Can she get over her prejudice and have a future with Ryker
