This is a beautiful picture book about two best friends who are having a sleepover and one of them finds it funny to scare the other.
It's a story about friendship and respect to each other.
Very cute and colorful illustrations

This book was ok. It is one I would recommend to a parent if they needed a topical nook about teasing or being scared, but the story seemed a little underdeveloped for how wordy it was, so I don’t know that I’d use it for a story time. But the art was cute and it would be good I’m a book bundle.

This was a sweet book about 2 young friends. One is constantly scaring the other in good fun. Until one day he takes it too far. This was a great book to use to teach a lesson.

Beautifully illustrated and a nice length. I could see a child enjoying this and the adult enjoy reading it. I like that the author was trying to teach a lesson. It did feel a bit jerky as children’s books often do. I myself as a mother would likely stray away from this book due to how my child would likely interpret it. He would see “continue to do whatever you want. Even if someone says no, because it’s funny, and it will all turn out alright in the end.” That’s not to say that message would be the one all children would receive though. I just feel it would encourage my child to not respect people’s boundaries and feelings.

2 stars

Nope. This really bugs me. It shows kids that when someone says no, that it's ok to ignore that and keep doing what the other person is asking you to stop. If you promise something, you keep that promise. In this book, one of the kids is scared and has asked his friend to stop scaring him. The friend promises to do so then turns around and keeps scaring him. I wouldn't read this to a small child because it sends the wrong message. On a positive note, the illustrations are very good and I have given this book an extra star just for them.

This is a delightful little story about two bestfriends having a sleepover. One little piggy is the mischievous sort and the other is a timid little soul who gets scared easily. The next day however the tables are turned and the mischievous little piggy gets the scare of his life. I loved this cute little book and so did my grandaughter.

A fun little book about two friends Willy and Walter. Walter likes to play pranks and Willy has repeatedly asked him to stop. But Willy will get the last laugh. This book is fun and has great illustrations that are engaging and match the story quite well.

What the.....? At first, I thought it was going to be about two friends scaring each other, but having fun. It was not. One repeatedly asked him to stop because he was genuinely scared. He lied, and said he would, then didn’t. The friend leaves, then comes back to plot revenge. This all just didn’t sit well with me. The boundary violations, revenge, lack of respect..... just no. No means no, and it’s a powerful message that kids should learn early on. One star simply because of the adorable illustrations.

This book was super cute and fun. My daughter and I both enjoyed the story. She even laughed quite a bit at some of the silly pigs scaring each other. I loved the graphics and story line. My husband and I both agree that we could read this book multiple times without getting bored of the story which in parenting life is HUGE because you know they want to read the same books OVER and OVER and OVER again!

This book is so relatable. Think about times when you didn't want a friend to do something, but that person didn't respect your wishes and boundaries and did it anyway? Walter likes to scares Willy, who's not a willing participant, and then tables are turned. Great story and illustrations. I read this via NetGalley, courtesy of the pubisher.

I may be in the minority but I didn't like this book. I don't think the words flowed well and I absolutely hate pranking because it leads to bullying. Pranking IS bullying and children imitate what they see, rather good or bad. :/

Colorful illustrations and a great story about friendship, respect, boundaries and learning that when the other person is not having fun, it’s time to stop being silly. A great lesson to teach early. Children will love reading “You Can’t Scare Me!” again and again! – Green Gables Book Reviews

“You Can’t Scare Me!” written by Bonnie Grubman and Illustrated by Judi Abbot

“You Can’t Scare Me!” is a children’s book with a great message and fun, colorful illustrations. The book has great lessons that all kids need to learn at an early age.

Friends Willy and Walter are having a sleepover, but Walter keeps doing things Willy doesn’t like, and Walter thinks it is very funny. Willy told him he will go home if he keeps scaring him. The next morning, Walter does it again and Willy has had enough. Walter feels bad, but does he feel bad enough to stop? Great children’s book!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book before its publication date!

This cute little story is full of beautiful artwork, but also two pigs that are not treating each other as they should. Walter and Willy are best friends having a sleepover, but Walter thinks it’s funny to scare Willy. Willy gets tired of being scared and leaves to go home. Will Willy forgive Walter, and will Walter learn his lesson?

This is a cute 32-page book, but it seems a bit old for its target audience, but perhaps not.

I just reviewed You Can't Scare Me by Bonnie Grubman. #YouCantScareMe #NetGalley

Is a funny story, about the friendship of a prankster and a scared y-cat, with a wisdom embedded. You might want to trick your friend, but never thought the cost of your prank, which we should think about before making fun of our friends.

I can't say that I really understood the whole point of this story. The illustrations were cute, but when I am reading a book to my children, I am looking for a moral of the story. Or at least something to discuss with them afterwards/during. This book was a bit lackluster and seemingly pointless. I also felt that for a kid, the names being "Willy" and "Walter" may be a bit confusing and should be a bit more different from each other.

I am not sure I would recommend this children's book as a read aloud to kids.

A very cute read. Loved the illustrations. I thought that the end of the story was perfect but found the beginning to be a little rushed and confusing. Overall enjoyable!

Walter and Willy are BFFs. Walter invites Willy over for a sleepover and Willy gladly accepts.

All through the evening Walter tries different tactics to scare his friend like... putting fake spiders in his sleeping bag and then reading Willy a book in a scary voice. Willy puts his hands over his ears and asks Walter to please stop frightening him which Walter did... for a while. The duo partake in more happy activities like eating popcorn, making shadow puppets, and playing go fish. Finally feeling tired they crawl into their sleeping bags.

UnfortunatelyWalter is still wound up so he can't sleep. He decides to play one last scary prank on his friend and that is the straw that breaks the camels back! Willy jumps up, scared out of his wits, and takes off for home. He definitely has had enough of Walter trying to scare him to death.

Will the two make up and become fast friends once again? Can Willy forgive Walter for being a jerk or will he somehow seek revenge and get Walter back for his insensitivity?

This is a wonderful parody on "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" tale. I would suggest that this book be read with lots of discussion to follow. It certainly needs to be used as a teachable moment. Talk about what it is like to have and be a good friend. You also can talk about stopping behaviours that are crossing boundaries which make you feel scared or uncomfortable, also the importance to ask your friend to forgive you if you are in any way hurting or making them feel badly. Some friendships are open to punking each other but that understanding needs to be a mutual one between the two. If the shenanigans against one another bring happiness and are considered funny and are not hurtful or offensive then that is quite fine.

The artwork is colourful and full of emotion. Both little piglet characters are adorable. I recommend this book with caution as the friendship role model is lacking.

I really liked the illustrations in this book. They are colorful, whimsical and imaginative. I was less impressed with the story itself. Walter is kind of a jerk, always trying to scare his friend Willy. Eventually, Willy's had enough and stomps home, ending their sleepover. In revenge, Willy plays a trick on Walter to scare him, stooping to his level. They end the best of friends. A cute story, but I hope the message children take from it isn't that it's cool to scare your friends.

This book admittedly wasn’t my favorite. The illustrations were cute, and the general concept was okay, but it was executed poorly. The writing just wasn’t that good. It felt clunky to read. Maybe I’m dense, but I kept forgetting which one was Willy and which one was Walter. I found it a little weird that Willy’s response to being scared and asking Walter (repeatedly) to stop was to scare him back in the end... I’m not really sure if that’s the lesson we want to teach kids! Overall, I didn’t love this one.
