The first in the Danger Never Sleeps series, this book focuses on Brooke, a young psychiatrist for the Army in Kabul, Afghanistan. When Brooke survives a deadly explosion in a cafe, the man she tries to save gives her a bracelet and asks her to keep it safe as he dies. Little does she know that she has promised to watch over something that certain criminals would kill to get their hands on. Back in the States, Asher James is determined to keep Brooke safe and help her through her PTSD symptoms, even as he struggles with nightmares and flashbacks himself from the explosions he's lived through and lost friends to. When they begin to uncover a despicable crime, along with the help of Caden Denning, a criminal investigator, they find themselves in the middle of more danger than they could have imagined.
I enjoyed this book very much and had a hard time putting it down until I reached the end. The descriptions were so vivid that I felt like I was there watching everything happen in real time. It was easy to become emotionally invested in the story and the good characters who were fighting the evil ones. This was the first full length book I have read by Lynette Eason, and I will definitely go back and read her other books. There was just enough humor to counteract the suspense, as well as biblical content and references to God's care and sovereignty. I couldn't believe the corrupt, evil nature of the criminals involved in the story - it turned my stomach, as it should. I would caution anyone who is easily upset by violence or trafficking, but overall I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading suspense and books about the military.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book, which I received from the publisher. A positive review was not required, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Had my attention within the first 10 pages, which means it's going to be a great read! I was not disappointed with all the action in this book.
Action-packed and danger around every corner.
Brooke came home from overseas and war to start a new life. To heal from her own trauma and help others. The last thing she expected was to find her secretary in her counselling practice dead of a gunshot.
And things keep going downhill from there.
Her client that came in and found her secretary is actually someone she knows from her time over there. He is part of her memories and her trauma and she can't hide from it when he's around. But he's also part of her present and she might just need him to survive.
This is a very quick-moving book and I found that I had to have the next book as soon as I finished this one. They are that good and that well written. I loved this book! I highly recommend that you read this entire series and I'm anxiously awaiting book number four now because that read that amazing.
The characters carry through in this series so I do feel they should be read in order. Get the whole series and then join me in waiting for the latest release!

Collateral Damage by Lynette Eason is a fabulous contemporary Christian suspense and the first book in the Danger Never Sleeps series which promises to be a cracking one.
God has plans for all of our lives. Each one of us is equal in His eyes. Unscrupulous people judge others as to who is worthy and who is unworthy to live. Hearts are focused on money and do not see the true value of human lives.
We are all called to take care of the widows and orphans. This is played out within the novel as hearts are opened to those less fortunate.
There is the theme of PTSD. Some are learning to live with it. Sharing symptoms with others helps some to cope. No man is an island. We all need friends.
Crimes have been committed. The reader sees the law enforcement agencies working together to defeat evil.
Every day we make choices. We always have the choice to do the right thing.
The characters are realistic, well drawn, likable and easy to empathise with. The plotline is well thought out, intriguing and well executed. As the suspense ramped up, so did my heart rate.
I love Lynette Eason’s novels. They are always exciting and would make marvellous movies or mini-series.
If you have never picked up a Lynette Eason book, why not pick up Collateral Damage today? You’ll be glad you did.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Award-winning author Lynette Eason kicks off her new inspirational series, filled with complex characters, suspenseful plot twists, and a clean romance.
In Collateral Damage, former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams is recovering at home after being seriously injured in a bombing in Afghanistan. When former Army Special Ops Sergeant Asher James comes to her office in South Carolina to get help for his PSTD nightmares, Asher interrupts an assailant in Brooke’s office. After taking her home, they encounter another one there. Why is she being targeted? Can they discover who is behind the attacks before it is too late? When clues start to point to people they know, how far will those people go to keep the truth buried?
Eason creates a fast-paced story filled with an ensemble of realistic characters, and a story filled with plot twists set in the US and military outposts. Faith elements are present, as is a clean romance; neither overpowers the storyline. Violence is present but applicable to the story (military, black market activities, etc.)
The reader is introduced to several women who spent time together in Afghanistan; each with different professions, but each with a strong sense of calling to them. Their shared experiences build strong bonds of friendship even after their tour of duty is over. This book shows PSTD affects more than just the soldier - Brooke suffers from it, as do others who spent time in that environment.
Recommended for adult collections and fans of military romantic suspense, especially fans of Ronie Kendig, Susan May Warren, and Dani Pettrey. Watch for book 2, Acceptable Risk, coming in August 2020.

This is the start to a brand new series called “Danger Never Sleeps”. I love series type books and I especially love Lynette Eason’s suspense books. WOW! This story was so so good from beginning to end! Lots of action, suspense, drama and some clean romance. Lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing and wondering what was going to happen.
Brooke and Asher are the main characters in the book although there are several more team members that were introduced throughout the story. I liked reading about their different roles an how they helped each other along the way. Flashbacks from their time in Afghanistan, their PTSD struggles and their military service was interesting to read about as they both tried to work thru their guilt and memories-looking to the future instead of the past.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series when it’s released in August. I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
Collateral Damage is an exciting start to Lynette Easons latest series. Readers follow Brooke Anderson and begin to uncover what really happened when she was overseas with the Army. PTSD is a serious issue for our men and women in uniform coming back from being deployed and it is encouraging to read a book that addresses the issue that many might not be as familiar with.
If Lynette Eason writes a book, any book, it automatically jumps to the top of my TBR pile. Her romantic suspense books are always nail-biters, and Collateral Damage is no exception!
Brooke Adams barely survived a bombing in Afghanistan. In fact, one of her companions didn't survive. Medically discharged she heads home and steps into practice as a psychologist/therapist. She can take on anything, except former service members. She knows their demons all too well, and can't take any more of them on her shoulders. When someone she knew from her days in the service requests an appointment with her, she plans to meet with him only so she can tell him she can't take his case.
Asher James is former Special Ops. He can handle anything - terrorists, bombs, bullets - except, now that he's home, he can't handle sleeping. When he sleeps he sees the deaths of the innocent, and the deaths of many in his company. He knows that if anyone can help him, it will be Brooke.
When Asher arrives at Brooke's office for his first appointment, all seems quiet, except it shouldn't be this deathly still. When he finds a body on the floor of Brooke's office, he is relieved to find it isn't her, but his relief goes battle-ready when she walks in and bullets start to fly. Can he protect her from the person stalking her every move when neither of them know what she's done to provoke anyone?
From an orphanage in Afghanistan to a mass grave in Greenville, NC, the clues point to horrors that have nothing to do with war and everything to do with greed. Can Brooke and Asher find the right people to trust before they are silenced forever?
This story started out with so many different threads that I wondered how Ms. Eason was ever going to tie them all together. She did, and in such a pulse-pounding way that I couldn't put it down once I started it. I actually listened to the book on the Libby app, which really made the story come to life. I would absolutely recommend this to readers who love romantic suspense, and if you can, listen to it. You won't be sorry!
I could not put this book down. The twists and turns kept me going from the first page to the last and I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out. The waiting is hard! I really enjoyed this book.
This was another great ride from Lynette Eason. This was a great series starter. Although I knew fairly early who the bad guy was, I was still invested in the characters. I was also interested in finding out how it all would come out in the end. There were a few interesting twists I didn't see coming. Not preachy in any way. Just very natural in the way the author worked in the Christian element. Great clean romantic suspense.
From the dusty danger of war-torn Kabul to the relative safety of South Carolina, Lynette Eason weaves a taut tale of greed, intrigue, and secrets worth killing for.
Army psychiatrist Brooke Adams and Special Ops Sergeant First-Class Asher James return from Afghanistan with painful memories and the faint hope of rebuilding normal lives. Instead, they find themselves targets in a deadly, globe-spanning plot.
Amid the flying bullets and PTSD flashbacks, the sprinkles of humour and the developing bond between Brooke and Asher kept it from being too intense for me. This is the sort of romantic suspense I like best. No syrupy thoughts, just two people trying to stay alive and realizing that they somehow understand and complete each other.
I also enjoyed the friendship between Brooke, Heather, Kat, and Sarah, especially in the first part of the book. I’m hoping the other women will have their turns to shine as the series unfolds (although Sarah definitely has a key role here, too.) And I appreciated the faith element as a natural part of the story.
Favourite line:
"God may not have blessed her with the kind of family she’d always yearned for growing up, but he’d made up for that in the kind of friends he’d placed in her life." [Kindle location 1708]

Still suffering from PTSD, Brooke is upset to see the picture in the paper showing her after an explosion. She is further surprised to learn that a former vet is her first appointment that morning. Recently discharged from the army and suffering from PTSD, Asher makes an appointment with former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams. When Asher arrives early to the appointment, he discovers a body and the killer still on the premises. This is the start of a very suspenseful book. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I didn't want to put this book down once I started it. Brooke and Asher's lives are in danger from the beginning until the end. Even though the story is mainly stateside, I enjoyed the military connection to the story and getting a glimpse of what today's military experiences. I also liked how the story was told from both Asher's and Brooke's point of view. I loved this excellent Christian romantic suspense book and I look forward to the next one in the series.
Lynette Eason's new series Danger Never Sleeps adeptly describes the pacing of this high octane thriller. Brooke Adams thought her life would settle down after she left the military and started her own counseling practice. Another military veteran, Asher James cannot sleep and decides to see counseling. At this first appointment, Brooke and Asher find a dead body in the office and learn their lives may be at risk. The action starts there and does not stop until the last page. Is the next book available yet?
So good! Eason never disappoints! Just enough suspense and unpredictability to keep you reading! Highly recommend!
Classic Lynette Eason. This novel is full of fast paced suspense, twisty plots, mystery and romance. Wonderfully written. A page turner. You do not want to miss this series. Looking forward to Book 2. Five stars.
A great start to this new series. The story is tragic and the suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat with all it twists until you reach the end. The romance thread is woven in seamlessly and really adds depth to it. This story also highlights just how brutal people can be. I enjoyed this captivating book as I got dragged into its world. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I’m going to be careful not to share any spoilers in this review, as I don’t want to ruin the suspense of the story for another reader. This is a fabulous book by Lynette Eason. This suspenseful storyline kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next. Brooke and Asher make a powerful couple that face danger together. This is certainly a page-turner with lots of action and great characters. Lynette Eason has been one of my favorite authors for some time now, and she’s off to a great start with this new series. This is Christian suspense at its best.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Ooh the action packed into this story! Lynette Eason starts her new series off right with a high octane, adrenaline pumping adventure! This story focuses on Brooke and Asher, two veterans tied together by a recent tragedy. Both are suffering from PTSD, which brings them together a second time. The bad guys are involved in a truly disgusting and heartbreaking crime and I honestly wasn’t sure who to trust until the very end. If you’re a fan of military thrillers or romantic suspense and authors like Ronie Kendig and Dani Pettrey you’ll definitely want to read this one! I cannot wait for book two and in the meantime, I’ll be catching up on some of Eason’s previous series.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This is book one in the Danger Never Sleeps series. I can't wait to read more. The book is full of action, suspense, mystery, romance and so much more. It would make a great movie.
I loved Brooke and Asher, both have fun personalities with PTSD to deal with. There is a lot going on in the book. Asher must try to keep Brooke safe while trying to solve a crime. I love their friendship with each other and others in this book. I look forward to reading more from this series. I enjoyed many of the characters in this book, the author has done her research and does a great job with her description and dialogue.
I wrote a proper review for this book, but it didn't save. I didn't enjoy the book, and I won't be rewriting the review.
My main trouble was with the characters. I wasn't convinced there would be a romantic aspect in these circumstances, so that felt forced. I hope Eason's next book will be back to her usual standard.
However, I did do a First Line Friday promo post.
