A complex and intriguing read. There are lots of different threads that are skilfully managed to create a gripping page turner.

Megan Carpenter is a detective with a secret. We learn some of her backstory in this mystery but much is left for the next book which is frustrating. I liked the character and the going back and forth with her past and the present. The mystery got a bit convoluted to me with new characters feeling thrown in to solve it. Nonetheless it was an enjoyable read and I will, read the next one when it comes out.

This is the first story in a new detective series and I can’t wait to read more in this series after reading this book! It is an intriguing police detective story set in the environs of Port Townsend in Jefferson County, involving murders, mystery and history.

Detective Megan Carpenter is determined to ensure all criminals are brought to justice for the sake of their victims. This is especially pertinent to her because of what happened to her and her family in the past. Those events are slowly being revealed as the story progresses through her listening to recordings of her therapy sessions from more than a decade ago…. and there are more such tapes and revelations to come in future stories.

In this story, the reporting of a missing person triggers Megan visiting the hills above Snow Creek where disparate households live in isolation. Finding teenage siblings awaiting the return of their parents after their absence for several weeks triggers further enquires. When a partially burnt body is found, the first murder enquiry commences but it won’t be the last as more secrets, deceptions and mysteries unfold.

This is a complex and enthralling detective story where several different threads are slowly brought together and woven skilfully into an intriguing story that is a real page turner. This is one of those reads that you really don’t want to put down until you’ve finished it. I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending this to anyone who enjoys reading this genre and I can’t wait to read more from this series in future.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

This book definitely has some twists and turns and it was hard to put down. But the story has so many subplots that it was hard to keep up with all the directions it was taking me and I ended up a little lost. So many victims, and missing people and kids hating their parents, it was just too much for it to be enjoyable. I was really hoping this would be the start of a great new series but it's doubtful I will read any more.

I pretty much love all Gregg Olsen books and this one was a great police procedural. It had some nice twists and turns. Nothing overly special, but it kept my attention and I enjoyed the ride

Snow Creek by Gregg Olsen is the first book in the new Detective Megan Carpenter series and I loved it. I have never read a book by Gregg Olsen and it wont be my last. I found it slow at the beginning but I soon became hooked after a few chapters and it has lots of twists and turns throughout.

This is a new new police procedural thriller series and its set in and around Port Townsend and Snow Creek, Washington. Megan Carpenter is a detective there.

A woman walks into the Sheriff's department to report her sister has been missing for a month, Detective Megan Carpenter starts to look into this and finds two teenaged children alone whilst their parents go travelling for a few weeks. Detective Megan Carpenter becomes worried that their story they told her is not true and there's more to this.

A body is found in Snow Creek, this is an area where people go to live in peace and who want to be off the grid. Detective Megan Carpenter soon discovers that there is more to this body that was found than she hoped for.

A few days later, and close to the home of the teenaged children she had just visited. An abandoned pickup truck is found, it's been burned out. Whilst further investigation they find a woman's dead body in the back of the truck.

Is this the body of the children's mother? and if it is.......where is the father?

Is he still alive?

Detective Megan Carpenter is very determined to find out who the dead person that was found in the woods and who
this woman is!

I can recommend it.

I quite enjoyed the first of the Megan Carpenter Tapes series. Set in the rural Pacifica Northwest, this is one convoluted mystery! It's tinged with chaos theory and entanglement too! One character causes red herrings for Detective Carpenter. In the sussing out of that interference, she comes across yet another crime. While I enjoyed the modern day mystery component, it is the past that captures more of my attention, and that part didn't get wrapped up!! As Megan listens to the taped sessions of her work with a psychologist, we begin to get a good appreciation for who she is now, and the shadows that haunt her. We don't get all the way to learning exactly what she did in her youth that was so bad, but someone seems determined to use it to cause problems. Exactly what kind of problems, and what she did, are for later books.

I liked most of these characters. It was the punk teenage girls I loathed most. I'd like to say that I don't like Merritt either, but it was through the eyes and voice of one of those punk teens that we learn about him. Since they really seem to have an entitlement complex in my mind, I'm not inclined to fully believe them. It probably doesn't help that I've been watching wayyyy too much true crime lately, and there were many many cases of teenagers getting parents into trouble (it even killing them) because they don't like the restrictions placed on them. Or worse, because they thought they were 'in love,' and their parents didn't want them to be with the partner they were with, usually cause that person was also an entitled punk or because they were way older. I liked Megan well enough, but my favourite characters were Sheriff and the sheriff's office's sole forensic tech. I mean, she works primarily as a florist! And Sheriff just seems like a big lovable teddy bear. I'm definitely looking forward to the next in the series.

WOW!! OMG!! What a story. This book takes you on a path that you won’t soon forget. The twists and turns are so well done. Just when I think I have things all figured out another twist hits. The only thing I did get was who actually did the killing. I thought I had it then a total surprise hit. One you won’t see coming. Then when I thought I had it another hits. I love a book that takes me on such a wild and twisting ride.

I felt like I was in the woods in the mountains of Washington where this story takes place. I felt so bad for the Wheaton children. Their mother and father are missing. Have been missing for a while and they have no idea what is going on. They are not where they said they were going.

Megan Carpenter is the detective on the case of the missing parents. Ida Wheaton’s sister reported them missing then went back to her hometown in Idaho. Now this story is full of week women with very dominating husbands and they are a bit on the fanatical religious side. Ruth Turner, Ida’s sister tells the detective that she is to only call her husband’s phone if she absolutely has too. Talk about dominating but good grief.. This is about her sister going missing.

There is also the strange neighbors that live on the somewhat isolated mountain. No one wants to be bothered and they are not a friendly bunch. There is a crazy cat woman that lives next door to the Wheatons and the two women who moved way out here to be left alone in their marriage. People just don’t want to be dragged into each other’s business. Though before it’s over some very bad things will come to light here.

While all of this is going on we also learn a great deal about Megan Carpenter’s life before she came here. She has been through so much already and dealing with that is enough to make you cringe. You’ll read about the things she went through, found out and did. How she survived some pretty messed up things in her life. Her time with a shrink that helped her a lot. She listens to the tapes the Dr made for her. They sure tell a story of their own too. It’s kind of like reading two books in one and done so well. I never lost a thing with this. It made the story even better. It would not be what it is without everything that happens.

I throughly enjoyed this book. Most all the characters are very likable. Even the crazy ones. Even the killers are somewhat likable. This book is a very good one. I can’t wait for the nest one. I know it will be great and I’ll find out what exactly happened in Megan’s life that she had to fight so hard to overcome. She’s one strong female and you will like her.

This is my first book by Gregg Olsen and will by no means be my last. I loved it. I didn’t want to put it down for anything. Trust me it is a very good pager turner that will have you guessing and second guessing.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #GreggOlsen and #Bookouture for this ARC. This is my own review.

It’s a big 4 stars. Make that 4.5 stars and a high recommendation to anyone that likes a good mystery/thriller series.

What a twisted read this was. Most of the story seemed to be straightforward crime, but about 2/3 of the way through, things took an odd turn that made me question everything I had read before. The author did a great job of keeping me guessing and laid out just enough bits of information to keep me turning pages quickly. I also liked how the story sets up the next in the series. Snow Creek featuring Detective Megan Carpenter by Gregg Olsen is his first book ina new serries. It is veryeasy to get completely involved. Megan is a strong central character who has an interesting and difficult past. In this first book she is involved with several murders and must solve each one. Her past continues to haunt her and she frequesntly listens to past tapes made whenshe was younger. However her difficult past history does not prevent her from being an excellent detective. In fact it helps her. I hroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to everyone who enjoys mysteries and psychological dramas.

Snow Creek is the first book in a new detective series by Gregg Olsen. Megan Carpenter is the MC in this series. She is an astute detective with a dark past. Before you start rolling your eyes at the cliché of another detective with a complicated past, let me assure you that Megan’s story is different. It is interesting and as was presented sort of like a second story-line which was just as captivating as the main story-line.

I love a good setting and Snow Creek was brilliant. I would never live in such an isolated place. However, I think it’s the perfect setting for this mystery. The woods and characters living off the grid made this an intense mystery. The author did such a stellar job with the imagery that I could picture what it was like living in such an isolated place.

The case was just as intense. It’s the kind of case where you find yourself sympathizing with the MC. Unlike most detective cases where there are too many possible suspects with motives, I felt like there were no suspects in this case. I couldn’t guess who the villain(s) were or the motives. In addition, the author sprinkled a number of jaw-dropping twists throughout the narrative. This had my head spinning and totally immersed me into the narrative.

The MC’s background story was similarly captivating. As I already mentioned, it felt like a second story-line. I found myself looking forward to Megan’s tapes as I also sought to unravel her secrets and hence understand her as a character.

Overall, this was a brilliant read. It definitely is a great start to a very promising series. I can’t wait to see how it goes.

Fast-paced, entertaining with an ending that will leave you counting down to the next installment, Snow Creek by Gregg Olsen is definitely a book not to miss.

What a book! I couldn’t put it down!
A woman living a secluded life with her wife finds a dead body near their home. Anxious to keep the world away, she removes all trace of the body. But she doesn’t spot another body nearby and THIS one is discovered…
Detective Megan Carpenter investigates the disappearance of a married couple and is convinced that the female body is the wife and suspects her husband of killing her.
The second half of Snow Creek has plenty of surprising revelations and my jaw dropped at some points as I realsied we had been cleverly misdirected by the author.
Megan’s past is truly fascinating and gradually revealed over the course of the book through a series of psychologist’s tapes that she revisits to come to terms with her past. Gregg Olsen’s use of the first person narrative allows us to see Megan’s viewpoint and feel her emotions alongside her, making her more relatable and personable.
There is a little gruesome detail but I liked the police procedure and forensic investigation for their gravitas without being overdramatic. This contrasts nicely with the emotional and personal side to Megan and shows her professionalism.
I can’t wait to read more from this author and see more of Megan’s life as Snow Creek ends with a major cliffhanger!

This is the first book in a new series by Gregg Olsen introducing Detective Megan Carpenter. I have read a few books by this author so was looking forward to seeing a new series. The story is set in and around Port Townsend and Snow Creek, Washington.

Ida Watson was reported missing by her sister, her children tell Detective Megan Carpenter that their mum and dad had gone to do some charity work in Mexico a few weeks ago. But when Megan investigates it seems that they never arrived.

Megan has secrets she is still dealing with from her childhood, she had a different name. Now she has to deal with a murder after a body is found of a woman that had been reported missing by her sister. Can Megan cope with her memories and still solve this murder?

I liked Megan, she is intelligent, good at her job and damaged, her character comes across well, she is believable and relatable, likewise with the other characters they all seem to be well rounded, thought out and the relationships all work. Which is a great start when you are bringing characters in for a new series. It seems the people that pick to live above Snow Creek, Washington do so because they want to live off the grid, they want seclusion, some of the residents have secrets.

The plot is fast paced and engrossing, developing a picture of Snow Creek both as a place but also of the people. I liked that it’s not just the one main storyline, the plot is complex. What I enjoyed is that questions are left unanswered at the end of this book leaving you wanting more, so anything not tied up in this book will carry over. Let’s hope we don’t have too long to wait for the second book in the series.

A great start to what promises to be another good series to follow.

I would like to thank #netgalley and #Bookouture for an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.

This book was an okay beginning to a new series. The first half seemed straightforward enough, a detective working a case and a side character getting tangled in the crime. The second half everything picked up the pace and quickly there was a lot going on. I wasn’t expecting the twists and while they were surprising they didn’t elevate the book in the way I was hoping.

The main character, Detective Megan Carpenter, works for a small Sheriff’s office and is close with the Sheriff. I was interested in learning her story, which is told in a series of audio recorded sessions of her work with a therapist discussing her past and childhood. This was an interesting way to share her past. Unfortunately, this format didn’t work for me because it seemed like Megan could choose what to share with the reader as opposed to seeing her react to what she shared. I thought she was listening to the tapes to remember, but then the story would shift and she would tell the reader what happened which felt like she already knew.

The main case was interesting and I was unsure of where it would lead. I was most interested in the story of the side character that gets involved in the crime because she seemed to have more secrets and was hiding something, but her story took a drastic turn that I definitely didn’t see coming. The way the case twisted and turned was unexpected but I wasn’t a fan of the topics it brought to light. Overall the case seemed too busy and like it was trying to do a lot with a short timeline.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book and for letting me take part in this tour. I am a detective book junkie these days and I'm always looking for my new favourite detective. I think I may have a new contender with Megan Carpenter here.

This book not only focuses on the case that Megan is working on but it also gives us a lot of background on her life. At first, I took a few chapters to get used to the writing style but once I adjusted I was seriously hooked.

Some of the aspects of the case remind Megan of her life growing up. We learn parts of Megan's past through her therapy tapes. Megan's past really pulled me in. Hearing little bits of her past at a time is an excellent way of keeping the reader interested and coming back for more.

The case is a very odd and terrifying one. The story was very difficult to uncover. There were many components to the case and while at first they do not seem related as the story progresses you realise in some horrifying ways that they are.

I enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to learn more about Megan Carpenter and her backstory.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read Snow Creek by Gregg Olsen. This is a new series, and while it took me a bit of time to get into it, once I started I was committed to finding out not only main mystery plot but of the horrific childhood of Megan Carpenter told in bits and pieces while she is listening to old therapy tapes. The story twists and turns tell you are not sure where it will turn next. I think fans of Giles Blunt will enjoy it.

Gregg Olsen’s latest release, Snow Creek, is an unputdownable thrill ride from beginning to end. Olsen takes a simple story and twists it in ways I could never have imagined. Just when you think there couldn’t possibly be another twist, Olsen hits you with one so explosive it will make your head spin. Talk about the ultimate book hangover…oh boy do I ever have one!

What starts out as a simple missing persons case takes a drastic turn when a blackened body is found in an abandoned pickup truck. Detective Megan Carpenter is hot on the case and is determined to find out the truth. There are lots of secrets to be uncovered and some of them are quite a doozy! Not only are there secrets surrounding her newest case, but megan herself is harboring secrets. The type of secrets that no one but her and another person knows. Megan didn’t always go by that name and little by little her story comes out in recorded sessions with a therapist from years ago. I am totally intrigued and Megan may quite possibly be one of my favorite heroines in any police procedural/thriller book I have read so far this year.

Gregg Olsen has such a way with words and building a story where you will not be able to stop yourself from getting sucked right in. I do have to say I have always had such a fascination for “off grid” living. Well, Olsen has pretty much scared me away from it now! Just my luck I would probably meet these kinds of people!

There are quite a few story lines running through this book and I love how Olsen ties them all together and yet at the same time leaves you wanting even more. There is more to the story and more to Megan that will be explored in future books in this new series. Gah! I really need the next book like now! Ugh!

If I could some up Snow Creek in one word, it would definitely be….chilling. Wow! I must say Gregg Olsen is a master at his craft and a strong contender in the thriller genre. Snow Creek should not be missed and it is definitely a five star read from me!

OMG this book was soooo my cup of tea. The author has filled the story with some serious twisted minds and that's the way I like them. :)

It's the first book in a new series. This not only means that we have to try and figure out who is the mastermind behind the murders, but we have the pleasure of meeting a new main character we will get to know little by little.

Megan certainly is a very intriguing person. I am really looking forward to find out what's in her past and future.

This was quite a complicated case, but  oh so good. Things happen and there does not seem to be any connection, right...?

The short chapters add to the pace of the book and the author slips in a few little quips that put a smile on my face.

Brilliant, just briilliant. 5 stars

Thank you, Gregg Olsen and Bookouture

Wow, this book packed quite a punch!

Megan is a police officer in a small town and she has to investigate what is going on in Snow Creek - a place where people tend to live "off the grid" and most of them have secrets, lots of them.

Ruth Turner walks into the police station and declares that her sister is missing. Megan tries to find her but with each local resident she interviews, the story gets more confusing.

I did not see the twist in the story, at all, and some of the scenes were gruesome to say the least. I wasn't a huge fan of the way that Megan's tapes were written in this book - I understand that we were learning about her history but I really started to skim read them, towards the end.

Looking forward to reading the second book in this series, I want to know more about Megan and what has happened in her past.

4 stars from me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture.

It's the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
It was a gripping and entertaining read that kept me on the edge till the last page.
I loved the solid mystery, fast paced and full of twists, the well thought cast of character and the setting.
I look forward to reading the next instalment in this series.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
