As a part of a series, this is a book that is difficult to understand without prior knowledge. We get only the smallest explanation of previous events and I found the world and it's rules for magic hard to fully grasp. Complex, not for casual readers of fantasy.
Huge thanks to Bloomsbury and NetGalley for this awesome read.
Our favorite characters are back and here to save the Arranmore Island. Here we see Fionn battles with the responsibility of becoming the new Storm Keeper and his responsibility to the island. His grandfather is losing his memory which is Fionn's only source of guidance. Now he must summon ancient powers to save Arranmore from destruction.
This was such a fun book. I fell in love with the characters in the first book and fell even deeper in love with them in the second book. The mythology behind the island is so fun and written so well. I am a sucker for a story involving the sea and this one definitely didn't disappointed. The magic system is so well done and how it plays into this book is just as good as the first. The side characters are hilarious and are lovable along with our main characters.
Overall, I gave this book 4.5 stars out of 5. I recommend this to middle schoolers and adults alike.
I absolutely loved this book. It had all the fun and magic of the first one and then some! I’m really enjoying this series.
I appreciate having had an opportunity to read and review this book. The appeal of this particular book was not evident to me, and if I cannot file a generally positive review I prefer simply to advise the publisher to that effect and file no review at all.
I received this book not realizing it was the second in a series, and this is definitely not an easy book to pick up without reading the first. The writing was good and the magic system within the story felt unique and interesting for middle grade stories.
The second in a series, The Lost Tide Warriors remains an appealing mix of magic and adventure similar to series like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. Middle novels can be rough and this one struggled with some of the usual problems including poor pacing, uneven character development, and an over the top minor villain. I'm still looking forward to the third (and I assume final?) book, but I probably will not reread this particular part of the series very often.
