Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The synopsis of this book sounded intriguing to me so I requested a copy to read.
Unfortunately, I have tried reading this book on 2 separate occasions and during this 2nd attempt, I have
decided to stop reading this book
and state that this book just wasn't for me.

DNF @ 30% but skimmed to about 51%.

You know those posts where someone says, "I made a bot watch 1,000 hours of _______ and this is what it came up with."

Well, I think a bot watched 1,000 hours of Lifetime movies and spat this out.

Nothing feels natural. Our narrator, Ivy the good twin, is not written very well. Her narration of the story is honestly so uncomfortably bad that I was cringing while reading it.

Every chapter ends the same:

*Iris (the bad twin) does something suspicious that ONLY Ivy sees as suspicious*
Ivy: ...Why? (I am not exaggerating, "Why?" is literally the last line of many of the chapters)

Or something like:

"Why does she need to talk to my friends?"

It's just way too heavy on the whole twin-sister-is-trying-to-takeover-my-life thing. Iris (bad twin) is NOT subtle. The friends INSTANTLY turn on good-twin, I'm talking first conversation with evil sister type shit. Of course evil-twin eventually comes for the boyfriend and OF COURSE he turns on good-twin too over something really fucking dumb.

We are told so many times by 10% that Ivy (good twin) is a "problem-solver" and "tries to fix everything" and she "doesn't understand Iris's behavior" and it got so annoying that I honestly wanted Iris to just take her out of the story early on so I wouldn't have to deal with her anymore.

Ugh. It was just bad.

Womp, womp.....I was really looking forward to loving this book, unfortunately, it just didn't do it for me. I couldn't connect with the characters. The twins, Ivy and Iris were predictable and a bit boring. I found myself spacing out.

The premise is so promising. Twins that lived separately when their parents divorced are forced back together when their mother tragically dies. Iris, who lived with her mother, starts sabotaging Ivy's perfect life that she created while living with her father. Her grades were impeccable, she was a champion swimmer, and has a wonderful boyfriend. Iris is more the wild child, rebel and master manipulator. I felt as though Ivy, being the intelligent girl that she is, could have fought back against all of the things that Iris was doing. I think it would have been incredibly interesting to be in Iris's mind and hearing her side of things as she's sabotaging Ivy and then reading Ivy's reaction to everything.

I would love to check out Natasha Preston's other books, as they are very highly regarded.

A special thank you to NetGalley, Random House Children's, and Natasha Preston for providing me with an ARC.

DNF - did not finish. I tried but did not connect with this 2020 thriller. Thank you, netgalley and publisher for the early copy.

Like a dark parent trap and single white female combined. The twins are split up after their parents divorce, but reunited when the mother dies in an accident. One twin begins to take over the others life, when will it stop?

I have read and loved many of Ms. Preston's books before and was really excited for this one, especially after reading the book description. Unfortunately, when I made it to the end my main thought was "huh, all I needed to read was the book's description as it revealed mostly any/all thrills and mysteries this book contains". When every mystery a book contains is capable of being captured in the short description it's hard to really see this as much of a mystery. I kept waiting for things I didn't already know to be revealed, sadly they never came. Wasn't a huge fan of either twin so that also made this a difficult read for me. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to like this but for some reason I could not get into the story. This could very much be a case of "it's me, not you" since I have seen a lot of people give the book great reviews. For me it was just ok with 3 stars, I knew what was coming with the plot but the details along the way were hazy. Also, the ending was the worst (which I know some people probably cheered about) but for some reason I was hoping for something more positive- but alas, that is not this book and the blame lies with me. This is the perfect read if you like dark psychological thrillers where there is no HEA in sight.

Fast paced! Great read! The Twin had me hooked from the beginning. What a Rollercoaster ride! The setting, theme, and the Characters pulled me in from the beginning. And the storyline was excellent. It was just perfect! I highly recommend everybody get this and read it.

I've been a huge fan of Natasha Preston's for years and while her novels are hit and miss for me, I loved this one! The synopsis immediately intrigued me and the beginning drew me in and I couldn't stop reading. There was great suspense, amazing characters, and everything was set up to where I had no clue what was going to happen. The book constantly had me second guessing myself because I would assume one thing only to find out I was completely wrong.

Thank you so much to Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This book was completely unexpected. I didn't care for it all.

A mystery lacking mystique but full of thrill.

Unfortunately, the plot description is revealing of all the mystery for this book. The dynamic between the twins is predictable from the start which leaves the conclusion anti-climatic. Ivy is a shallow character that many readers will find disengaging while Iris is as clear as glass with unoriginal motives. The plot was drawn out despite the plot being clear. Too much was revealed in the description of the book to leave readers questioning if the events occurring are really happening.

Things go wrong very quickly in the story with many plotholes. I would only recommend this book to readers who have little exposure to mysteries or thrillers. The content is not immediately scary and the plot holes decrease the haunting nature of the crimes committed.

This is another one of the Natasha Preston books I had a hard time with. I wanted to like this book, and honestly it was good at the beginning, but then it went downhill fast. The ending wasn't even really an ending and that I think was the worst part, that's why it has such a low rating. This book pissed me off in all the wrong ways.

This book messed with your mind which I think is what the author was going for. I really enjoyed how the story was put together and how you didn't know what to trust. Such a good read.

This is the second Natasha Preston book I have read, and the second time I enjoyed the book until I got to the ending. Once again, I felt like the ending was a bit rushed. I thought the whole of the book was great..... suspenseful, you felt a little sympathy, you didn't know what was going to happen. But the ending just fell flat in my opinion. I am not sure if his is just the way she writes, or if i have just happened to read two books that just ended odd.

Ivy and Iris are twins who were separated at 10 years old when their parents divorced - Ivy went with Dad, Iris went with Mom. Now, years later, their mother dies in an accident and Iris comes back to live with Dad, reuniting with Ivy. At first, as everyone is devastated, Iris won't talk to anyone except Ivy. Ivy nurtures Iris back to "normal", until she realizes that Iris is taking over her friends, her boyfriend - and her life. Ivy is seeing a side of Iris that she wasn't aware of - which makes Ivy question - was their mother's death truly an accident?
This was a pretty predictable story line, even with keeping in mind that I am an adult reading a YA book..
I also couldn't understand the thought process behind splitting up twins in the first place!! The ending doesn't really resolve anything either and wasn't very satisfying. Decent read, but not for me.
Thanks to Natasha Preston, Random House and NetGalley for the ARC.

I liked the story, but I didn't get involved while reading it. I wasn't drawn in. and it was supposed to be a mystery, but I didn't find myself in suspense at any point.

I did think it was interesting, and I did read the entire book, but I think this just wasn't my cup of tea.

I do want to thank Net Galley, the publisher and the author for letting me read it.

The Twin was another great read by Natasha Preston. Ivy and Iris are 10 year old twins that were split up when their parents divorced. Ivy went with their dad, while Iris went with their mom. The twins are reunited when an accident take their mother's life. The first few weeks Iris is in silence but will only speak to Ivy. Iris feels as though her life is over but Ivy promises that they can share their lives now. Iris took that seriously and started taking over Ivy's friends, school life and her boyfriend Tyler. Ivy is afraid that their mother's accident may not have been an accident after all. This was a great read by Natasha Preston.

Thanks to Netgalley for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review!

Holy crap, this one was a wild ride! It kept me wanting to continue reading it and hoping it would resolve neatly and Ivy come out on top. It was definitely a psychological thriller and the whole time I was like can you not see Iris for who she is?!? And that ending, dang.

I loved reading this as a YA thriller, but some parts were really juvenile. I’m not going to criticize for that as it’s written for YA and read as such. This book did read much like a diary and I was half waiting for someone to stumble upon it and find out everything that was going on. But that never happened and now my brain hurts.

Definitely will continue to read what else this author has out!

I really wanted to love this one, but I couldn't connect with it. I tried to read it multiple times, but the story and the characters felt very flat to me. Although this was marketed as a mystery from what I could tell, I didn't feel that need to discover the answer the way one usually would with a good mystery. I won't be reviewing this on any other platform because I believe it could appeal to others.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishing house, Random House Children’s (Delacorte Press), for providing an advanced copy for review. All thoughts and opinions written in this review are my own.

This was a great YA mystery/thriller! It was definitely a slow-build mystery and I enjoyed the good twin versus the bad twin storyline. I had some ideas early on about what might happen and I was far from the mark. It definitely kept me guessing. I also appreciated that the author wrote in characters who advocated and who received counseling for the devastating event that happened (don’t want to give anything away here). I have not read anything by Ms. Preston before but she’s an author I will add to my list.
