Kelsey and her sister Mallory are ready to start their adventure of living in NY when a knock on their apartment door sends them to Moncriano as she is actually the long lost Princess who was stolen as a baby.
Elias is the Prince’s best friend and works security for the Royal family. He is on a quest to right the wrongs of the past and that means finding the Princess and returning her back to her rightful place in the family.
There is no denying the chemistry and connection but there’s no way for a Princess and her Protector to have a happy ever after is there?
Kelsey is fun and feisty while Elias is sweet yet sexy and the secondary characters were a great addition and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is the first book that I have read from this author and it was an ok read for me. Others may like it. Kelsey was living in New York when she finds out that she is a long lost princess and that she was kidnapped as a infant. When her real family finds her, Elias comes to get her and she doesn’t question anything and just goes with him. There were some funny parts in this story and the characters at times grated on me. As I said, it wasn’t for me but I am sure that others will like.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
From beginning to end Barth holds your emotions in her hands. Kelsey and Elias wrap themselves around your heart rather quickly and stubbornly refuse to let go. The Princess Problem shakes up the way we view royalty and delights while doing so. Kelsey is ready to live her best life. Her dreams are finally coming true until a sexy stranger throws a detour in the way of her happy ending. Whether you laugh yourself silly or to tears, Barth makes a lasting impressing with this heartwarming, laugh out loud charmer.
I loved The Princess Problem by Christi Barth! A woman who has just fulfilled her dream of living in New York City with her sister finds out after her fingerprints for a new job hit a database that she is a princess of a small European country and was kidnapped as an infant. Thrust into royal life, she must figure out how to adapt to her new duties and her new family all while trying to figure out how she feels about being a princess and how in the heck the parents who raised her ended up with her. Funny, sweet, and sexy but with many poignant moments as well, The Princess Problem was a joy to read.
Kelsey is so happy to be in NYC even if the apartment she and her sister share is tiny and their budget is strained, so when a very handsome man knocks on her door and tells her she is the long lost (well kidnapped) princess she thinks she’s being punked for a reality show, turns out it’s the truth and soon she and her sister are whisked away to Moncriano where she will meet her older brother, older sister, her father and other members of the royal family she was born into. Overwhelmed and stressed she leans on her body guard Elias who also happens to be her new brother’s best friend.
I know that will probably be people who try and tear this book apart for one reason or another because it doesn’t meet royal protocol or some such nonsense, but since I’m not a huge royal watcher and don’t really care about how things are done in royal families, I was able to sit back, read, and truly fall in love with these characters and their story. While a romance between Princess Kelsey (yes she insisted on keeping the name she grew up with instead of the one she was born with) and Elias was pretty front and center in this book Kelsey was also getting to know her new family and dealing with how awkward she felt around her brother even though he was happy for her return, her new sister who seemed less than thrilled she was found, forging a relationship with her father the king, steering clear of her grandmother who was a strong personality and not very nice, and a great aunt who was quite lovely.
While Elias tired to steer clear knowing that a relationship with Kelsey wasn’t possible with him being a commoner, the more time they spent in each other’s company the harder it was to deny the feelings they were both having. I enjoyed watching their feelings grow, how conflicted they were, and how they decided to deal with their attraction. There were ups and downs in their relationship and I felt it was very realistic at how things played out.
The Princess Problem was a fantastic start to this series and I’m already looking forward to reading the next book.
A superb story. Kelsey’s life is upended when she finds out she is a lost Princess. She is whisked away by her royal bodyguard Elias. They are immediately attracted to each other but try to fight it as they each have individual responsibilities. This is a fun and lighthearted story. As Kelsey tries to find out who she truly is, she discovers her new family and country. With witty and snarky conversations between the characters, we come to love each one. This is an absolutely delightful story that should fulfill every girls dreams. Becoming a princess and falling in love.
Kelsey and her sister are finally realizing their dream of living in New York when all of a sudden it's over. Elias shows up at their door and tells Kelsey that she is the long lost princess of his country and his duty is to return her. The plot is basically the Princess Diaries with Kelsey agonizing over her worthiness to be a princess and her conflicted thoughts about her parents. Did they kidnap her and why? I enjoyed parts of this book but other parts were unsatisfactory such as Kelsey's explanation of why they "adopted" her and how.
I tried very hard, but gave up at 51 percent. I kept waiting for more of a plot to develop, but this one didn’t seem to want to go anywhere. It was very long winded, and I didn’t see any chemistry between the main characters. It had an interesting premise, but may need some editing and some action, at least something before the 50 percent mark.
"Who you think you are isn't always who you are meant to be."
Kelsey and her sister are ready to take New York City by storm! Finding out she is the long lost princess of a small European country is not in those plans. It turns out Kelsey was kidnapped when she was three months old while her family was on vacation. She was ultimately raised by a loving set of parents in America. When she applied to be a part-time teacher in New York she was fingerprinted and BAM her birth family is able to find her, because they never stopped looking. She is found by a member of the royal protection detail - Elias. Elias' father was a former head of the royal protection detail and was on duty when Kelsey (Princess Valentina) was kidnapped. It has been his life-long mission to find the lost princess.
I enjoyed so many parts of this story - Kelsey is fun and sassy. Her sister Mallory is smart and sweet. Elias is sexy and strong. Her birth family is interesting and is set up nicely for future stories. I was extremely interested in what happened to Kelsey and in her re connection with her birth family. The issue I had with this story, is that the author focused on details I wasn't interested in. I wanted to know more about what happened, about her family and less about her clothes. I kept get frustrated with Kelsey. She immediately leaves NYC with Elias - but doesn't seem to concerned about contacting her parents to talk about what was happening. We hear that she and Mallory have "whispered conversations" at night about this - but really nothing more. Kelsey seems to be basically content living the whirlwind royal life and not to worried about the wheres and whys. There is a lot of talk about Kelsey having a lot to learn - and then moments where she is "shocked" or very upset to "only find out about this now" and "I should have told you sooner"s - She seemed utterly content to let the royal whirlwind take over and sweep her away. This seemed out of character for who the author wanted her to be.
I also wasn't a huge fan of the conflict that briefly separates Kelsey and Elias at the end. Ultimately, I wish the author had spent less time telling us what Kelsey was and who she was, and more time showing us. What saved this book was the overall storyline and the secondary characters.
Its a very light, quick read, with a good lead in to future stories.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley - but these opinions are my own.
So thank you for this book, and I was really enthusiastic about this book. For about 20% things were just peachy and I was squeeing in delight. Sure, there were some issues, but for most I loved what I read. Kelsey was sweet, Elias was wonderful, I loved the idea of a commoner finding out they are a princess and them being whisked away.
However.... the author needs to check more on the history of monarchs in Europe. Falling in love with a commoner or someone who isn't royalty isn't a problem. If anything it is probably normal do marry one. :P Sure, I can understand that he is worried about the job, but other than that? Go for it. :P
I hated the royal family. ALL of them. Instead of having ONE Freaking grain of understanding for the poor girl who was ripped out of her normal life they demand all sorts of things, make schedules, chew her out, restrict her, take away anything she would want. I get that she is there incognito, at least in the parts I read, but come on. She has been on this earth for 25 years, as a normal girl. She has a job she loves. She has started a new life with her sister. You can't just fucking expect her to smile and twirl and accept everything. Give her time, don't ambush and demand things. Let her get used first. Then maybe give some pointers, and then ask what she wants. Does she want to be here forever?
And at 30%? We still have no freaking clue how Kelsey got kidnapped and if her parents (not the royals) know about it....
I also agree with other reviewers, at times it felt like this was written for a whole different audience. More teenage instead of adult.
I don’t remember requesting this one. But it sounds intriguing so I may read it but it’ll be added to my TBR
Firstly a huge thanks to Netgalley and the Entangled Publishing for this Advanced Review Copy. I must confess that I was a bit hasitant to read this book because the author is new to me but I actually quiet enjoyed reading it. Since I love the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot so I was curious about this book and its safe to say that it was a good one!
This story follows Kelsey, an ordinary New Yorker who comes to know that she is an actual Princess of an European country who was kidnapped at a young age. Now she was asked by a very handsome bodyguard to leave her old life behind and come back to her rightful house as her family was waiting for her. And the shocking fact is that Kelsey actually agrees to go with him. The story proceeds from there and we all get to see that the royal family is not very nice to her. I, quiet franky, didn't like them at all. And on the top of this rollercoaster ride of Kelsey's ride was her feelings for Elias. The princess falling for the bodyguard is such a clichè but Elias has been so sweet and such a great ally to Kelsey that you couldn't help but feel absolutely charmed by them. I quiet liked liked Jenny at the end of the book but not her family. I cannot wait for her and Christian's book. I am really excited for that. This book has all the makings of a good rom-com. It was light, funny, witty and filled with charming characters. There were some very sweet momends and some some quiet funny laugh-out-loud senerios. I was entertained the whole time and wanted to know how all these characters are gonna end up. I was not at all disappointed with it. Miss Barth did an wonderful job with Kelsey and Elias's story and I am looking forward to more of her books in the future.
I highly recommend it to rom-com fans. If you are a fan of Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries series then its a must read for you. My only complain was that this was fast paced and some of the moments seemed too rushed but all in all it was an entertaining read with nice romance. Happy reading!
The Princess Problem is the first in a new royal series. If you enjoy this type of reading in general, you might be curious to have a look. After all, I’m a Princess Diaries fan myself! However, the comparison starts and ends with the common term in the book title. Beware!
I read in a not-so-enthusiastic review that the book could possibly be better suited for a younger audience. Well, considering the very explicit sex scenes, I would strongly advise against giving the book to tweens.
Now, if you can get past the initial convoluted trigger and you’re into a sexy romance between a princess and a bodyguard, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this novel. But things might go differently if like me, you find it hard to believe a New Yorker would accept (rather quickly) the idea of being an actual kidnapped European princess, and drop everything on a whim to move (even temporarily) to another country without even talking to her parents first.
Overall, I found a lot of things to be not credible (the rude behaviour of the royal family towards Kelsey). If I’m not mistaken, the author places the fictional country at the border between Italy and Austria. Yet, later on, the bodyguard explains to Kelsey the nation is located on the edge of the ocean which is why they have seafood and it is not exotic for the locals… Well, it is geographically impossible to be located near this particular European border and near the ocean at the same time!
All in all, this book was not for me.
I loved this book! It was obviously Princess Diaries but set in New York, which made it all the more better but the bodyguard trope was just so well done. I also thought the romance between Kelsey and Elias was cute. Overall a very fun read and I look forward to the next book in the series
The Princess Problem by Christi Barth a sweet five-star read. This wasn’t five-stars all the way through, but overall it was so sweet I couldn’t mark it down. I know I can’t wait for Ruling the Princess as I am desperate to hear more from Genny, even though I didn’t like her for most of this story, but in the end, I could see where she is coming from. Elias is everything you want from a big hunky bodyguard, and he comes through in all ways. Kelsey made me chuckle so may many times, I could identify with her in so many ways, and I was jealous of her relationship with Mallory to have someone that close and supportive in your life is something everyone needs and deserves. You do need to leave reality behind when you start this story but do it as its so fun that you would be sorry to miss it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my request for an ARC of this book.
I really liked this story. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed how Ms Barth told Elias and Kelsey’s love story. It was fun, light, and entertaining.
I’m looking forward to reading Genny and Christian’s stories!
Kelsey has just moved to NewYork with her sister and is excited to be living in the most exciting city in the world. But then her world is turned upside down, it seems she is a Princess of an European country who was kidnapped when she was just 3 months old, and she was only found because she was finger printed for one of her jobs.
Elias is part of the royal protection service, and is in charge of getting the princess back to Moncriano and to keep her safe.
Kelsey is overwhelmed with all the changes and has 2 weeks to decide if she wants to stay in Moncriano or go back to America. Through all the changes happening in her life, Elias has been her one safe place, but what kind of a future can a Princess and a bodyguard have ?
The princess problem is like a dream come true story. The author has spun a story that truly kept me hooked. I loved the humane side of the Royal family. They lost Kelsey when she was just 3 months old and now when they have found her at age 25, they are figuring out how to be a family. The chemistry between Kelsey and Elias is hot. This was a delightfully entertaining read and I can’t wait to read more in the series.
The Princess problem has a fun rom-com concept of a typical girl discovering she’s a princess of a small country. Sadly, I had a really hard time getting into this story. The way that Kelsey discovers she’s a Princess just didn’t feel believable to me and I think that’s what made this story a challenge for me to get into. Beyond that I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I kept hoping that I’d get on board and find myself getting into the romance the more I read but it just didn’t happen.
This story had a lot of potential and I think some readers will love it but unfortunately it was a miss for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have mixed feelings about this one.
The characters (and the writing of their inner thoughts) were not at all for me. They were relatively boring with one repeat concern or mantra about self-worth (which I do appreciate in a character!), and otherwise didn't bring much life to the pages. I will say while I didn't care much about the MC's the steamy scenes were definitely steamy and I wasn't expecting that in this book. That being said, these characters were pretty flat and a bummer for me.
The plot, however, was super fun. I would love to see this plot done again. The concept of this plot is timelessly appealing, fun, and has room for relationships to build and could have twists and mysteries abound.
So this half really worked for me, and half not at all.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by this author, I think I'm more interested in the next one then I was in this one. I felt the whole thing with her parents was kind of a after thought. The back and forth of her staying or going got annoying after awhile.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ACR, I voluntarily read and reviewed.
I really enjoyed this! I love a good secret princess novel and this didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to netgalley for the Arc!
