When human remains are found in the woods a detective, the FBI and a precvious victim of Jacob Ness along with her tech expect friend (??) are brought in to investigate. There is so much going on and so many fun little hints dropped throughout the book that it’s definitely one where you want to be totally concentrated while reading. The relationships between characters are very fun and the storyline of “Bonita” is so tragic yet inspirational. I really enjoyed the story and felt like the pacing was good as well. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for my review.

This was my first Lisa Gardner book and it worked well as a standalone. I felt that the author provided enough background information on the characters in order to understand them and how their experiences played into the plot. Even so, the first 30% of the book was a bit slow and it took me a few times of putting it down and picking it back up until I finally got into it. Once I did it was an entertaining easy read. One thing that bugged me, and maybe was edited upon publication, was the repetition of certain phrases: "DD didn't like it" or "Kimberly didn't like it" was used over and over again. Also referring to the characters as "the woman." "Flora crouched on the ground. The woman was hit in the head" instead of saying, "She was hit in the head." I also felt that the end of the book was kind of like the end of an episode of Scooby-Doo - explaining the whole mystery and who did what. Overall I liked it enough and I am intrigued enough that I will explore other books by Lisa Gardner.

Back in 2014 I devoured a handful of Gardner's books. And then, I somehow forgot about her. Shame on me for that. Let 2023 be the year of my Lisa Gardner renaissance, as this is my second book of hers this year and I read it one day.

Catching up on my backlog of arcs after a two year reading hiatus, I decided to pick this one up after finishing Touch & Go by Gardner recently.

Told in four point of views, I feared it may get messy, but it actually worked well. It opens with an unknown first person POV which leaves you guessing as to her connection to the larger story at play- that of skeletal remains found in the forest and being worked by FBI Agent Quincy, Detective DD Warren, and kidnapped survivor, Flora. What starts out as a single shallow burial in the woods turns into multiple graves and a serial killer (or killers) in small town Georgia. You never knew who to trust when meeting the seemingly innocent locals of Niche.

I enjoyed how it all unraveled and how all the different subplots came together to make a great story and a mystery that tied up nicely.

I received an advanced copy through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

Another great book from Lisa Gardner! From the beginning, the story pulled me in and never let go! I enjoyed the interaction between the 3 strong female characters who each bring something unique to the storyline. Thanks for NetGalley for this ARC! I look forward to the next D.D. Wareen book!

I have enjoyed the books in the Detective D. D. Warren series. And this just upped the author’s ability to write a killer thriller mystery. The characters are well developed and I loved how pieces of previous books in this series were incorporated to increase the thriller aspect. You are sucked into the book from the minute you read the first word…and you will be emotionally invested until you have read the last word and closed the book. Whew! What a rollercoaster ride of mystery, intrigue, fear, danger, and loss. I can’t encourage you enough to pick up this book and get your heart racing with suspense.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Lisa Gardner is amazing and never disappoints me. In "When You See Me", she again tackles the elusive secrets that Jacob Ness left behind. In order to get to the bottom of Ness' warped mind, Detective D.D. Warren joins forces with FBI agent Kimberly Quincy, as well as Ness' victim, Flora Dane. The three of them head to the mountains of Georgia, where something ominous seems to be present in the sleepy country town. The three women soon discover that something is deeply wrong, and that the Southern hospitality they are encountering is merely a facade, hiding something terribly evil. As Flora faces her own past, she relies on her experiences to help the women uncover the nefarious secrets that are being protected.

You really can't go wrong with a Lisa Gardner book. I love the strong characters, and have become invested in their individual stories. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this novel!

Lisa Gardiner can do no wrong for me and this was no exception. Flora is such a solid addition to this series and I love her and DD working together.

Three Gardner fan favorites—FBI agent Kimberly Quincy, Sgt. D.D. Warren of the Boston Police, and serial-killer–survivor–turned-vigilante Flora Dane—team up to untangle a series of murders, and lots of small-town secrets, in the Georgia hills.

Lisa Gardner never disappoints. This story is a twisty turny thriller with well developed characters switching between D.D. Warren, Flora, and Keith’s point of views. I was on the edge of my seat through each twist and turn like I was right there with them. Thanks to Lisa Gardner, Penguin Group, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read When You See Me.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC of this book.
Twisty turny thriller with familiar likeable characters. Can read as a standalone and there isn't much furtherance of the backstory. Complicated plot that is easy to follow and never gets boring. Would have liked to know more details at the end but maybe that will come in another book.

This is a continuation of the Detective D.D. Warren series, book #11. I have heard a lot from friends about Lisa Gardner so I was excited to get an arc for this author.
This story is thrilling with well developed characters switching between D.D. Warren, Flora and Keith’s point of views. It is a very easy ready and page turner. One of those binge books to read in one weekend or one day.
Not having read the previous books with the characters, I know I am missing a lot of the backstories so I would have enjoyed it more with just D.D.’s perspective because I loved her character so much! I will go back and start reading the beginning of the series. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone.
I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys thrillers, mysteries and strong women lead characters.

Holy cow you guys, this book was so good. Like, best book she's written so far good. I know I've heard other readers say she's dragging the series out too long and that she needs to stop but please, please do yourself a favor and read this. I have been reading her books for years and her writing just keeps getting better.

The plot twists were so good and unexpected, I honestly gasped a couple of times while reading then gasped again with what happened next. Lisa Gardner has the best way of throwing in plot twists when you least expect them and they're so complex and unexpected, it's amazing to read.

Another thing I absolutely love about her book is the main character D.D. with her dry sense of humor and sarcasm. She can be in the most intense situation but yet will still crack a joke and have the reader laughing while your eyes are bugging out because the scene is so crazy. Lisa Gardner has a way of throwing in humor during the best times to break up the seriousness and I love it.

As for the ending of this book, I can't even lie, I might have had tears in my eyes. The ending was absolutely perfect and wrapped everything up so nicely, I just loved it!

Thank so much to Dutton and NetGalley for the complimentary copy for my honest review!

I enjoy all Lisa Gardner books, especially when following her fearless female characters: Detective D.D. Warren, Special Agent Kimberly Quincy and Survivor Flora Dane. Having all three intertwined into one story is the best and I thoroughly enjoy their dynamics. The setting in Georgia was a nice change of pace from the typical Boston scene and I am excited for the possibility of another installment to see what happens with their new little survivor, Bonita.

WHEN YOU SEE ME was a suspenseful read where the characters came to life on the page. Even though I came into at the eleventh book in the D.D. Warren series, I was able to get right in there and enjoy the story. Though I think having read the previous books would have informed some of the relationships for me, I was able to piece things together.

Another great read by Lisa Gardner! Thank you for the AOC. NetGalley. Lisa Gardner is one of my favorite authors. I love the intruding of characters. I love how she mixes in some humor with the darkness and mystery! This one was right up there with the rest!

I really enjoyed this book! I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to read it, because I LOVE police thrillers, true crime, crime, and good ol' detective stories. I know this book is part of a bigger series, but I didn't feel disconnected having not read the other books. I can't wait to go back and read them, and to also read future books about these characters. This was a solid book. I blew right through it and found myself wanting more. I'm glad I have more in the series to tide me over!

This book solidifies why I am a huge Lisa Gardner fan. I was thrilled to learn more about Flora, to have her character explore her harsh experiences and attempt at some form of healing.
Fast paced, suspense and thrills. Great twists.
Highly recommend this book - and as always this series.

Oh my goodness!!!!! What a BOOK!!! Gardner never disappoints!! Oh wow, ok so this is the short version and then I will get down to why I loved this book so much, aside from it being a suspense/thriller type of book: So a couple hiking in Georgia find some bones in a shallow grave, they call the police, and then case opens up a whole new can of worms to the point that that need the FBI, and all the trimmings, which includes two civilians. Keith is a true crime lover, a computer nerd and a dead ringer for Ted Bundy, and Flora was abducted by a serial kidnapper and rapist, and maybe she can help identify if all these shallow graves have anything to do with Jacob Ness, her abductor.

Well THEN, I was SHOCKETH!!! This town had so many secrets, I was floored I couldn’t even believe it, and not only are all of the crimes connected, but an underground trafficking ring? Organs? Mute teen girl? The Mayor of the town? The black underground internet market? SOO MUCH GOOD ISSSHHHH, I was loving it!

The characters are what got me, I love strong women in any book that I read, makes me feel empowered, what Flora went through, the young girl Bonita, DD Warren and even Kimberly? I was just inspired, Gardner does this so well with her books. I am telling y’all, if you are a fan, go for it read this book.

Thanks Netgalley, the publishers and Lisa Gardner for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
