Thanks netgalley for allowing me to read this excellent thriller, I really enjoyed it.
Darcy found out after her husband died that he was leading a double life .
Darcy Then found out that her husband had also been living with another woman .
Her two sons were devastated at loosing their father, but Darcy was angry and just could not understand how her husband could do that to her.
Then one day picking her sons up from school she felt she was being watched, and feared it could br Daniela Friost the other woman in her husbands life.
Darcy then meets George a doctor, and hopes he will make her life better, and that’s when the book gets really exciting.
Great thriller loved it.
My seventh novel by this author. This novel has an interesting cast of characters and I spent much of the book trying to diagnose them all!
I was never bored and did start to question one particular character's actions- wondering what they were hiding. I even made up one twist on my own that actually was wrong, but hey, I thought it was good. The other twist, I did predict. And there were some good twists and turns that surprised me.
I enjoyed it although it wasn't as mesmerizing as some of her previous titles - that were such page-turners (for me). I know I've read tons of psychological thrillers and it is getting harder for me to be fooled. I do enjoy her writing though and look forward to future Slater novels. I have her newest Audible title The Apartment and I'm excited to give it a listen.
Twisty and turny in a fun way, this one kept me guessing the whole time.
The quintessential Saturday afternoon read, it's short and easy to zip through with a satisfying conclusion!
Thank you to K.L. Slater, Bookouture, and NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is one of those books that grabs you from page one and keeps you in suspense until the end of the book. Darcy and Joel had 2 boys and then he died. Darcy had mental issues and lost custody of her kids for a while to her in-laws but eventually gets them back. Her son, Kane, had an asthma attack and was saved by passerby, Dr. George Mortimer. Darcy is attracted to the doctor and contacts him for coffee to thank him. From here, the story takes many twists, turns and a very surprising ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this fantastic read in exchange for an honest review.
Another great book by K.L Slater. Lots of twists and turns in the book that kept me engrossed and although I thought it was a tad far fetched in places that didn’t take away my enjoyment of the book. If you like unpredictable Psychological thrillers than it’s a good read for you. I recommend this book to people who love the psychological thrilller genre.
I do always enjoy KL Slater's books. A good mix of easy reading, with suspense. This book was no different. As always lots of twists, people to suspect and chapters that leave you with questions, and an eager desire to read the next one. All in all a good read.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I thought it was an ok read, just not a great one for me. Darcy and George, both widowed with young children meet and start dating. They both have back stories and lots of secrets and eventually move in together. I didn’t particularly like the two main characters and felt some parts in the story were quite unrealistic. There were quite a few twists and turns in the plot, nothing that made me go ‘wow’ though. For me, the book wasn’t what I would call a real thriller.
K.L. Slater has done it again in delivering an addictive and highly engaging psychological thriller that is impossible to put down!
Darcy is a widow to two young boys after her husband sadly passed away from cancer, four years later she is just getting back on her feet after receiving another devastating blow that her husband had been having an affair with a woman called Daniella frost who isn’t ready to let darcy live a somewhat peaceful life when she buys the house Darcy and her two boys are currently living in.
Darcy also has her overbearing in-laws to deal with on a daily basis which can be frustrating for her at times, she believes her luck is changing when she meets the charming and attractive George who is a respected surgeon that saved her young sons life while he was having an asthma attack, she soon falls for George quickly- could he be the one for her after all of the heartache she has been through? She soon realises that George isn’t actually all that he seems....
A truly addictive and gripping read that you will not want to put down full of quirky characters that all have a secret to hide. Thank you to netgalley for a copy of this wonderful book in exchange for my honest review.
Yet again KL slater has delivered a top notch book. Once picked up you will devour in one sitting.
Darcy is mum to two boys. Harrison and Kane. Following the death of their dad Joel the family have been struggling. Joel’s family have been there for them but has she allowed them too much control.
Following an incident at the park. George the dashing doctor comes to the rescue. What begins is the romance that Darcy could only dream of.
George is Dad to Romy. However, he also has his secrets. Before Darcy knows it the perfect life isn’t as perfect as it seems. Has she put her sons in danger.
Love the fact that the author sets the story in my home town of Nottingham. I recognised all the locations she referred to. This just made the characters leap off the pages.
This is totally worth the 5 🌟. If I could give more I would.
This started off as a good book. It's well written and i was intrigued by the characters and what would happen. As it reached the halfway point though things became very unrealistic and far fetched. It was hard to continue to root for the main character when the situations where rather absurd.
I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review - All thoughts and opinions are mine and unbiased
This is a new author to me and thoroughly enjoyed the book
Lots of twists and turns in the plot - unpredictable which made it all the more enjoyable for me
A quick but great read
Darcy’s been having a hard time. Her husband died, and she’s raising her two sons alone. Also, her in-laws won’t keep their noses out of her life. They feel kind of justified, because Darcy had a bit of a breakdown at one point, because reasons, and needed a lot of support. Everybody except her seems to think it might happen again.
Then she meets George. He seems nice and handsome and stuff. Also, he’s a doctor, so there’s that. And he’s a single dad, so there’s that, too. Before long, Darcy and her boys are moving in with George and his young daughter Romy. Needless to say, the nosey in-laws are unimpressed. George’s housekeeper (he’s super rich) doesn’t seem thrilled either.
I like many of Slater’s books, but I struggled to get into this. None of the characters, not even main character Darcy, are sympathetic. (The kids are ok.) The “twists” are not that twisty - one I spotted right away - and it all gets a bit ludicrous towards the end, as if the author had to suddenly ramp up the action by putting a character in danger. The villain, when revealed as such, is too absurdly evil to be believable and everything is polished off far too neatly by the end.
That said, a lot of people loved it, so it clearly did hit the mark for many - maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood.
SINGLE is the 10th psychological thriller by bestselling author K.L. Slater. I’m a huge fan of this author, and having read six of her novels, I can say that this novel is bound to be well received. Her novels just get better and better. This is a fabulous read, that will reel you in …one line at a time…

Darcy and her two sons, six-year old, Kane and ten- year old Harrison had suffered tragic circumstances, with the death of her husband and father, Joel to cancer. Darcy had a breakdown, and in the interim, her family stepped up to the plate to take temporary custody of her children, until she was fit to look after them. They included her parents Brenda and Leonard, and sister Steph and husband Dave.
But now Darcy has recovered from her breakdown and now has custody of her children again.
This novel focuses upon a single mum, Darcy when her youngest six-year-old son, Kane suddenly falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, after suffering an asthma attack. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life.
George is a single parent too, a father to a six-year old daughter, Romy. George is a good-looking, charming, and successful as a consultant surgeon in Urology at the City Hospital. George has a housekeeper, Maria who is very close to Romy, and has formed a special bond with his daughter.
After the accident Darcy is very indebted to George for saving her son’s life. Darcy is interested in George, and makes a move on him. Thinks move quickly, and a relationship develops quickly. When George invites her to move into his beautiful home with its sprawling garden for her boys, Darcy doesn’t hesitate.
But as Darcy is settling in, she receives a bunch of flowers with a chilling message. George says they’re from an obsessed ex-girlfriend, Opal, and days later Opal turns up at Darcy’s son’s football match. She claims to have shocking information that could threaten George’s custody of his daughter.
Who can Darcy trust? So many thoughts are going through her head! She is starting to suspect that, whatever the truth, she might have put her boys into terrible danger…
This one does not disappoint and has an interesting twist at the end.
This is a fast-paced book full of action, flawed characters with some situations a little far- fetched but makes for an excellent read.
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture via NetGalley for my digital copy.
Another really enjoyable read by this author. It was full of twists and turns and I genuinely didn’t know who to believe or trust. Her books never disappoint.
This was a great read. Once the story picked up it was pretty fast paced and the plot was well told. I did not love the main character however and i found with many of the first few "happenings" in the story she seemed to be making a mountain out of a molehill. Obviously as the story progressed and things picked up speed it made sense but i just didnt find the original reactions and ultimatums to be plausible. However the ending of this book and the plot twists made up for the slightly annoying start and make this book well worth the read.
This book hooked me from the prologue! I had to keep reading because each chapter made me want to know more about the characters and see how the pieces would come together. I’ve never read anything by K. L. Slater before, but after reading this fast, fun read that kept me guessing I’m definitely a new fan!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I seem to be in the absolute minority here, but I did not enjoy this book. Way too much plodding through overly detailed storytelling that added nothing to the forward movement of the story, no tension or thriller elements to speak of, and some extremely strange and not at all credible plot twists. I finished it because I have an outsized sense of responsibility toward commitments I've entered into, but I was greatly relieved when I reached the end.
Another fab book by KL Slater, this one was an amazing thriller, I wasn't sure at all how the story was going to unfold, it had me gripped throughout.
Who can you trust? Who do you believe? Family? Friends? Or your own heart?
When single mother Darcy meets the almost too good to be true Dr. George, she feels like her life is finally settling into perfect. He has a young daughter, she has two sons. He endured the death of his wife and infant daughter, Darcy was betrayed by her husband Josh’s long term infidelity. She discovered that relationship after his death and went through a breakdown as she grappled with betrayal and widowhood. Now she is trying to distance herself from her controlling in-laws. The in-laws, Leonard, Brenda and daughter Sheila are secretly making plans to gain control of Darcy’s sons. They have also stayed in a relationship with Daniela Frost, Josh’s other woman. Darcy is also trying to understand the hostility she feels from George’s housekeeper Maria and the mysterious Opal Vardy.
This was a 5 star book for me until the conclusion. While I tried very hard to understand what was happening, I thought the action, involving every character, was way over the top and not believable. So 4 stars and I look forward to reading more from K. L. Slater!
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and K. L. Slater for this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of Single for an honest review.
Another brilliant page-turner by K.L. Slater. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I honestly did not know what was going to happen at any point - now that’s a great physiological thriller!
I definitely recommend this book!
