Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. I love mystery & thrillers so I was very excited about another Tudor book. Unfortunately, I only feel so-so about this one. It had a great beginning that sucked you in and left you to wonder what in world was going on, but the revelation felt forced and some of the story felt far fetched and not real. However, Tudor's writing is wonderful and probably what saved me from DNFing this one.
This is one seriously chilling novel with a prologue that has your teeth jangling almost immediately. Where do I start? Is it a thriller? A mystery? Vigilante Justice? An eye for an eye. Bible: Chapter and Verse. And a touch of the supernatural!
There are several threads, the main one being protagonist Gabe. He's been through the worst that life can offer, the reported savage death of his wife Jenny and daughter, Izzy. But he continues to search for Izzy. His grief is palpable, all consuming.
And Katie, a waitress who often sees Gabe, a motorist passing weekly on his daughter-seeking mission. Fran and her daughter Alice are running. It's a frantic existence, it's not fair--Alice is so young and she's been severely traumatized. And lastly, the girl, quiet, kept in perpetuity in a sterile white room with the machines and the nurse.
As the author spoon-feeds you little bits and the storyline begins to build and coagulate, it also builds a heart-thumping dread. The scenarios switch from POV to POV, each creating another building block exposing a raw truth. A lie by the sin of omission? Secrets held tight--they all have them--loathe exposing any to light.
Who are The Other People? The sheer complexity begins to wear on you. The oft confusing new revelation, blinding twists, becomes absolutely gripping, page-turning entertainment.
The frenetic conclusion, while satisfying, introduced another shocking revelation and the full reveal bordered perhaps on TMI. Otherwise, the whole ride through this book was one very exciting charge into a stunning, almost brilliant third effort. I can't compare this to the others as this was my first experience with the author, but I can assure you, it won't be my last.
I was given this digital download by the publisher through NetGalley and was thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review. Wholeheartedly recommended for any who loves an incredibly engaging well-plotted thriller. 4.5/5
3.5 stars. I thought this was really good. Creepy and with just a hint of the paranormal. I don't have a whole lot to say about the plot, but I think a lot of thriller fans will like this, especially if you enjoy thrillers about missing children and/or revenge.
A little disappointed in the ending- definitely not as powerful as I had hoped. But still an intense, fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing.
C.J. Tudor is quickly becoming one of my top go-to authors. Can’t wait to see what come next!

This was actually my first C.J. Tudor book and a pretty damn good read. The characters were genuine and the storyline was engaging. I picked it up one night and did not want to put it down. The only criticism I might have is that I wish there was more. I feel like there were relationships I wish that could have been delved into deeper and formed more, but then again there is kind of this perfect peace with how things were which I think might have been the intent of the writer. It hits the shelves January 28,2020 and if your are in the mood for a good fast paced thriller give it a look you won’t be disappointed.
Synopsis:
Gabe is on his way home to his family one evening when he sees something odd. A girl who looks like his daughter in the back of a car. There’s no way right? He phones home frantically and the police answer. It’s now been a few years, with the police finding his wife and daughter dead Gabe still drives up and down the motorway everyday never giving up hope and searching for answers. Katie works at one of the service stations Gabe frequents, she’s a single mom and has gone through the ringer with her fair share of life happening and receding. Fran and Alice are on the run, mother and daughter, but what are they running from. In a room where machines hum there sits a pale girl...
The Other People was a gripping psychological read. Every parents nightmare, you see your child in a car driving away from you with a stranger. This story is told from a few points of view that all collide near the ending. Make sure you clear your schedule because once you start this book it flows from chapter to chapter and time slips by. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review,
I enjoyed this book much much more than her first one. Plot twists hit me harder and the characters felt more real.
This is was an excellent read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does go back and for but the suspense is really good and once it gets going it’s hard to put down. Thanks Netgalley
The Other People is my first CJ Tudor read, and what an unusual, twisty story it’s turned out to be. Gabe haunts the highways, searching for the daughter everyone else believes murdered and dead...but he KNOWS he saw her in the car in front of him that devastating day. Three years later, his obsessive, relentless highway patrolling leads him to the car, a dead body, but no daughter Izzy...and then follows a story full of coincidences and the web of the The Other People - a sinister entity that takes vigilante justice to an extreme level.
Tudor is a talented writer who unwraps the plot piece by piece without dulling the story by going about it too leisurely. However, Tudor could’ve focused on his themes of fate, missed opportunities, and vengeance without delving into what is anunderdeveloped, therefore baffling, supernatural element. I’ll have to say parts seem to be heavily inspired by John Connolly, and I’m not sure if these sections are as well done as it is by the venerable Connolly.
Overall, if you like thrillers that tease out the clues in a smart, mostly well thought way, The Other People is one to read.
This book was everything a thriller should be! Creepy, scary, and keeps you reading until the very last page! 3 years ago, Gabe was driving home from work and saw his daughter Izzy in the back of a stranger's car. When he gets home he finds out his wife and daughter have been murdered! How can that be when he just saw Izzy? Gabe gives up his job and home and just drives around looking for the car that had Izzy. Katie is a single mom of 2 children and works at a diner where Gabe stops at frequently. Their lives are intertwined and when they realize it is quite the wild ride! This book kept me guessing until the very end! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
I loved CJ Tudor's previous books and couldn't wait to read this one, and it did not disappoint! It pulls you in right from the first chapter and never lets go until the last sentence. I'm officially a CJ Tudor fan! A psychological thriller with the spooky touches the writer is known for, this is one book that should be on every reading list next year.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
4.5 stars
Once you get going, it’s hard to put this one down ! As always CJ Tudor keeps us in suspense until the big reveal . Thoroughly enjoyed this one
The Other People is C.J. Tudor's 3rd book. I have read all 3 and am quite the "fan girl". C. J. Tudor is a talent that needs to be a household name like Stephen King. Her work is thorough, original and gripping.
In The Other People you get lots of twists and turns but in the end all twists come together for an amazing Ah Ha moment. Do you self a favor and read The Other People and then pick up The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place too. You will thank me later!
This book gripped me from the beginning and I could not put it down. As a fan of C.J. Tudor’s writing, this one did not disappoint.
The main character is plagued with guilt as he searches the depths of the motorway he last saw his daughter on before she disappeared, presumed dead. He knows better, at least he believes he does. Great character development, twists and turns in the right spots, and no detail left unturned.
Save the afternoon for this one - you’ll need it !
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for an Advanced Reading Copy. All opinions are my own. 11/9/19
Fantastic book! I could not put it down. Grabbed me right from the start and wouldn’t let go. Great premise as well. I’ve already been recommending this book to my group. Full of twists, turns and everything in between!
“The Other People” is the third book from author @cjtudor, and like the first two, absolutely excellent! This is a definite page-turner from the get-go, and the suspense and twists never let up. A desperate father, searching for the daughter the police say is dead, but he believes he saw in a car on the highway. Great premise, told with overlapping narratives that all come together very nicely, but keep you guessing throughout the book. So many ways this story could go, and that’s the joy of the novel!! Definitely a winner, five big stars.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through @NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say!!! WOW!! C.J. Tudor has done it again. I have read all of her novels and this one to my surprised tops all her others. I would never have thought that possible. How far would you go to get revenge for the death of a loved one? These are the things I found myself thinking about as I read this novel. Imagine losing everything you find precious but you know what you have seen and no one will believe you. Great character development. Found myself thinking about this novel even when I wasn't reading it. Lots of twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out here comes another twist. I would more than recommend this novel. Run out and get it as soon as it is released. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!
Our main character lost his daughter.. or so we thought. He’s driving one day and sees a little girl look at him from the rear view window of the car in front of him. He’s shocked, and his friends and family think he’s crazy. CJ Tudor is becoming a favorite author of mine. Horror mixed with thriller!
So far I've been a big fan of all of CJ Tudor's books and this one is no exception. This was a wild thrilling ride, just enough cheesiness to keep you hooked and interested but not enough to ruin the integrity of the story.
Yikes it's hard to review this without any spoilers but I'm trying. This starts off as a typical thriller, and the reader is thrown into an uncomfortable setting right away. No holds barred. Reading this you feel as if you are right there in the car with Gabe and I found myself audibly gasping at parts.
Overall the story arc was well done, and the plot was original and interesting. Maybe I expected a little more of the "supernatural" type plot than was delivered but that was probably just me projecting.
I devoured this book in two long sessions, didn't want to put it down. Had to find out what happened next.
Would love to see this turned into a television program.
Gabe Forman worked for an advertising agency until three years ago, when his wife Jenny and five-year-old daughter Isabella (Izzy) were killed during a home invasion. Or were they?
On the day his family is slaughtered, Gabe is driving home on England's M1 motorway during rush hour. In the bumper to bumper traffic, Gabe's eye is drawn to an ancient car that sports peeling stickers like "Honk if you're horny"; "Don't follow me, I'm lost"; and "Horn broken, watch for finger." Gabe is idly gazing at the rusty auto when the face of his five-year-old daughter Izzy appears in the back window, and the girl mouths the word "Daddy!" A hand pulls the child away, and Gabe gives chase.
Gabe tries to follow the old vehicle, but loses it on the congested highway. When Gabe finally gets home, the police tell him his wife and daughter are dead.....shot!
Gabe insists he's seen Izzy on the M1, but no one believes him and - following identification by Gabe's father-in-law Harry - the bodies of Jenny and a little girl (presumably Izzy) are cremated. Gabe is certain his daughter is alive, and quits his job to drive up and down the M1 in a camper van, searching for Izzy.
Gabe has been roaming the M1 for three years, stopping for the occasional cup of coffee and bite to eat at service stations, and sleeping in the vehicle. A service station waitress named Katie, who works the night shift so her sister can watch her two children, notices Gabe - a tall thin haggard man who stops by once a week or so.
Katie thinks the man must have a sad story, but she has problems of her own: the tragic death of her father; making ends meet; and dealing with an alcoholic mother.
As Gabe is wandering the motorway, another pair of travelers is doing much the same thing. A woman called Fran and an eight-year-old girl named Alice are on the run from 'a bad man' who's trying to hurt Alice. Fran is determined to protect the child, but her mission is complicated by Alice's narcolepsy - sudden bouts of sleep from which Alice awakens clutching a pebble. Alice's pebbles are related to a supernatural part of the story, which is a bit too obscure and forced (IMO).
One fateful day Gabe's road acquaintance, a man called 'The Samaritan' - who knows Gabe is looking for an old stickered-up car - finds the auto in a lake. The Samaritan takes Gabe to the car, where Gabe finds a pocket bible, a folded map, a notebook, and something else (not Izzy). With a hint from The Samaritan, Gabe proceeds down a road that leads to the Dark Web and a vigilante group called 'The Other People.'
The three plotlines - Gabe's search for Izzy; Katie's troubles; and Fran and Alice's flight - are interspersed with scenes of a girl in coma. The girl is the nucleus of the paranormal incidents in the book.
All the narratives come together as the book approaches its climax, and Gabe learns the truth about what happened to his family and why. The book is engaging but there are so many tragedies, and so many aftermaths, that things get confusing. To me, it feels like unnecessary piling on.
Still, this is a good book that would appeal to fans of psychological suspense.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author (C.J. Tudor) and the publisher (Random House Publishing Group -
Ballantine Books) for a copy of the book.
