This one started strong but the pacing was a bit off and almost lost me. I've read other works from CJ Tudor that I liked more than this. I still enjoyed it, but just not as much as other works by this author. That being said, I do recommend this book. It kept me in suspense up until the very end, and I liked the supernatural elements.
I had a really hard time getting into this story and actually ended up putting it down a few times and coming back to it later. It's not terrible and the plot itself is quite interesting. The characters were not my favorite and seemed to display little to no reaction to bizarre events. Their "gut feelings" can only be an explanation so many times before it feels forced. Coincidence too, can be used as an explanation but feels like a lack of effort when its the main explanation for events.
I tried to read this book when I first received my net galley copy and I just didn't love it. I decided to give it another try and I'm glad I did. While I found it to be very predictable, it was well written and entertaining. I knew after about 1/3 of the book exactly what was going on/what was going to happen, but there were a couple twists I didn't really see coming. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
Yet another creep thriller from CJ Tudor. I've loved all her books. They are definitely worth the read and keep you guessing.
Another chilling tense page turner by C.j.Tudor.Once again she drew me in to the story and kept me reading late into the night.Highly recommend.#netgalley#rabdomhouse
I loved THE CHALK MAN, so when I saw this one available to request, I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately, I just had a really hard time getting into it once I started - it's not bad, and CJ Tudor's writing is excellently atmospheric in it. I think maybe it's just an issue with timing, and this not being the book for me at the moment. I got almost 2/4 of the way through before putting it on pause to focus elsewhere!
The Other People by C.J. Tudor was published by Random House - Ballantine on January 28, 2020. I was given a copy through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Driving home from work one night, Gabe sees his daughter mouth "Daddy" in the back of a beat up car. She's never seen again. He spends the next three years going up and down that highway, in search of the daughter he lost. When the car is found at the bottom of a pond with a grown man inside, Gabe amps up his search. That search leads him to The Other People.
If you have lost a loved one, The Other People want to help. Because they know what loss is like. They know what pain is like. They know what death is like.
This was my first book by Tudor, despite owning everything else she has written. It did not disappoint. I really enjoyed this one and totally loved the ending. It would have been a 5 star read for me, but I guess this was supposed to be a paranormal thriller? That didn't really come across for me. Still, this was an excellent read.
Grab this book for the creepiness factor. Stay for the story.

Thank you so much for my copy of The Other People.
I went into this book blind. It is one of those books where “Bookstagram made me do it!” so I sent the request online and never read the synopsis. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I had a lot of confusion, which for me I like. I want a book to challenge me and make time think.
The only downfall with the book, I felt, was the paranormal or spiritual encounter between Izzy and Isabella. That part for me didn’t make much sense because everything else in the book connected.
Overall though, I loved the book and do look forward to reading more by C.J. Tudor.
After reading and loving THE CHALK MAN, I knew I had to pick up more by @cjtudorauthor. Her thrillers are darker and more edgy than others in the genre. What I mean is; if you're not in the right headspace for something dark, this book won't be for you.

On his commute home one night, Gabe is stuck behind a rusty car with obnoxious bumper stickers all over the place. Then he sees a little girl face in the back window. It's not just any little girl, but his own daughter who is supposed to be at home with her mother. Frantically trying to reach his wife, Gabe loses the car and his daughter, and never sees them again. Three years later, Gabe is still searching for his lost daughter. He is the only one who believes her to still be alive. His ever-desperate search leads him to a group called The Other People. The Other People want to help. The Other People understand pain and loss. When justice fails you call The Other People.

This is a book where the less you know going in, the better. I even think the official book synopsis gives away too much. I haven't read any plot quite like it. The story is unique and gripping, and I was really driven to learn if Gabe's searching be in vain. 4 out of 5 stars. .
Thank you to @netgalley and @randomhouse for a digital copy of THE OTHER PEOPLE in exchange for an honest review.
I had such a great time with this book! After loving this author's previous work, I was pretty excited to give this book a try. When I started reading this book, I hoped that this would be a story that would really capture my attention and it was. I was completely swept away by this story and found myself trying to figure out what was really happening to these characters even when I wasn't reading the book. I enjoyed this page-turner of a story from the first page until the last.
On his way home one night, Gabe sees a car covered in bumper stickers weaving in and out of traffic in front of him. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal if he hadn't seen the face of a little girl sitting in the backseat of the car. He knew that face because it belonged to his daughter. Years later, he cannot let it go and spends his time driving up and down the same roads looking for either the car or his little girl.
This is one of those stories where it is better to go in knowing little about the story and letting things unfold as you work your way through the book. There are tons of twists and turns during this story and sometimes a new detail would have me questioning everything I had previously thought. We see this story from several different points of view that become more connected as the book progressed. There were times that I had no idea where the story was going but I wanted so much to see Gabe find his Izzy that I couldn't put the book down.
I would highly recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a wonderfully crafted and quite complex story filled with interesting characters. This book kept me guessing until the very end and I liked the fact that there was just a bit of supernatural worked in as well. I cannot wait to read more from this very talented author!
I received a review copy of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine Books.
What I Liked:
The connections between all of the characters were very well done. I felt appropriately shocked each time a new layer of the plot was revealed.
The Samaritan is a spooky, sketchy character who I also kind of love. Very intriguing guy!
Alice’s slightly supernatural ability. A neat addition to the plot.
What I Didn’t Like:
Without spoiling too much, the only flaw for me in the plot was when the Samaritan references the direction the car was driving that fateful night. This made a promise that I didn’t feel was delivered on.
Overall, I dug this book. It kept me pretty well hooked from page one!
Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the ARC of The Other People. I have also read and enjoyed The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place so I was really looking forward to her latest book.
All of Tudor’s thrillers are eerie, creepy, and contain an element of the supernatural. This one also contained a gothic vibe. The story weaves back and forth between the narratives of Gabe, Katie and Fran. Gabe is on his way home when he sees his daughter in the back of a strange car in front of him. How can this be? She is supposed to be at home with his wife, waiting for him to read her a story before bed. When he returns home, he learns that his wife and daughter have been murdered. He refuses to believe that his daughter is dead. There must be some mistake since he just saw her in the back of the strange car in front of him on the road! He spends the next 2 1/2 years believing she is alive and driving the highways looking for her.
Fran is on the run with a child named Alice, who has a form of narcolepsy and is terrified of mirrors. They are running from “the bad man” who is trying to get Alice. Fran promises to keep her safe.
Katie works the night shift at a coffee shop along the highway, where she serves “the thin man”, who she later learns is Gabe.
I really enjoyed the journey that Tudor takes the reader on along the highway with Gabe as he pieces together the mystery of what happened the night his family was murdered. There are lots of twists and turns and original ideas for how these character’s lives and experiences intertwine. Who is the Samaritan? Who are the Other People? There are a few predictable storylines, but what a ride! I do wish that there were more answers given to the why and the how of the supernatural elements of this story. How do the pebbles work? However, overall this is such an original story and so well written that is was hard to put it down! I did not want the story to end!
4 stars
The Other People was a creepy, exciting story that I couldn't put down! This is my first book by C.J. Tudor and I really enjoyed it!
This book is a wonderful mix of thriller and paranormal, but it also had this element of sadness as the father searches for his daughter. I felt like this was a fast-paced story that moved seamlessly from one situation to the next. I liked the way the ending was done, and really enjoyed this one!
I was provided an advanced reader's copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
C.J. Tudor delivers another fast paced thriller. I am becoming such a fan of her novels. The Other People is about Gabe who travels along the highway looking for his lost daughter. There are a number of plot lines that all tie together, and the switching perspectives catch a readers attention right from the start. Highly recommend.
Very interesting read! I’d love to read some more from this author. At first, I had a hard time getting into the different stories and what was happening, but it quickly picked up and I had to finish it quickly! The writing was very good and the storyline was excellent. 4 stars all the way. Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this!
Wow! C. J. Tudor does it again--the intensity was insane (in a great way!) and I flat out adored this. Highly recommended, but especially for those who are thriller fans.
I love, love, love C J Tudor! The Other People was creepy, twisted and amazing! Gabe is a man wandering the countryside looking for the daughter that died 3 years ago. Or did she? Gabe is also a man chained to another girl who’s life he ended over 20 years ago. How these 2 girls, Gabe’s and the mysterious Other People’s paths are connected was a truly masterfully crafted story. If you are looking for a suspenseful story that will keep you turning the page, C J Tudor is your author!
Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for the advanced e-copy!
This thriller made for an excellent read! I liked that it veered away from all the action happening to the main character, and included multiple people and different storylines that brought everything together. Very quick read, it pulled me in and I finished in just 2 days, highly recommend!
I liked this because it's dark and creepy. I was left guessing right to the very end as to who the "other people" are. Are they really out there and are they really helpful? You'll have to read this to find out!
ARC from Ballantine and Netgalley.
A fascinating mystery that unfolds like a series of nesting Russian dolls, as what appears to be a series of unconnected events and people turns into a deadly interconnected.web. Scary!
