If you enjoy cozy mysteries filled with laughter, colorful characters and an intriguing story line, then this new series by the amazingly talented Amanda Flower is just what you need!
Millie is a quilt maker, but her true specialty is knowing which couples are destined to be together.
Matchmaking Can be Murder introduces some new characters, but also includes some of our favorites from the author’s candy shop series.
While Millie enjoys making a match, nothing would mean more to her then finding the right match for her niece, Edith.
Unfortunately for Millie, Edith’s current beau is not going away easily, but when he becomes a murder victim, things really heat up, as Edith becomes a suspect.
I have come to love these series that take the reader to the Amish community. These stories by Ms. Flower are filled with interesting characters, facts and a deeper understanding of the Amish way of life.
I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Another delightful Amish mystery from Amanda Flower!
This one is first in a series featuring Amish matchmaker, Millie Fisher as ND is an absolute delight!
An Amish Matchmaker Mystery #1
A brand new series from Amanda Flower! And if you enjoy a little bit of crossover in your cozy series, this is the one for you!
Our main character, Millie, lives in Harvest, where the author's Candy Shop Series is set, so you'll see a few familiar faces.
Millie is a widow who has recently moved back to her childhood home in Harvest, Ohio. She is a quiltmaker and also a matchmaker. She's quite good at knowing which person should be with the other.
The one person who she really wants to help is her niece, Edith. Edith is a widow with small children and huge greenhouse business. Edith is engaged to Zeke, who is not a likable fellow and may have ulterior motives for wooing Edith.
When Edith tells Millie she has decided to not marry Zeke, Millie is thrilled. Everyone else? Not so much. So when Zeke turns up dead in the greenhouse Millie is sure Edith will be a suspect. Edith isn't going to prison on her watch! But will poking around needle the wrong person?
I have read a few Amish Cozy Mysteries and these are different. The characters are flawed and very funny! Is there such a thing as an Amish Romantic Comedy/Mystery? It seems there is and this is it!
Looking forward to more of Millie!

With a unique combination of Amish and matchmaking and wonderful well crafted characters, you will want to know what will happen in this small Amish town. Looking forward to more of this spin off series.
I’m a big fan of Amanda Flower’s Amish Candy Shop series, featuring Bailey King. Add in the fact that the fictional town of Harvest is located in Holmes County, OH, very near where I live, and I knew I had to read this book. I enjoyed the fact that the main character is not a young women, but is a 67 year old Amish woman. That adds a unique spin to the story. I loved hearing snippets about characters I already knew from the Candy Shop series. The mystery that Millie needs to solve is well-written, and I look forward to hearing more about Millie’s matchmaking and her sweet little goats in future books.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Do you love tv shows that have crossovers with characters from other shows, well get excited because this book is exactly like that only better! A new series has an Amish matchmaker sleuthing to find a murderer and it is set in the town of Harvest which is the same town that this author's Amish Candy Shoppe series is set in so you already know most of the characters, but are now seeing them from a different perspective! It is definitely a must read book! In fact you have already met Millie, the main character, in the Candy Shoppe series and now she has her own series! We all know that every sleuth needs a sidekick right!?! So what could be better than a flamboyantly non-Amish childhood friend who has recently moved back to Harvest! Polar opposites and yet close friends who are committed to uncovering the truth regardless of the danger they may find themselves in. The variety of characters and personalities is fabulous as they are all well developed and brought to life including that of the animals in the story. I absolutely can't wait for the next book to come out, in the meantime I'll be trying to convince my husband we need goats!!!
I generally like this author's books so I thought I would give this one a try. Once I got into it a while, I realized that ii was a concurrent story line to her candy store book series. I find it interesting to be written from the Amish life aspect, but not having been around this culture, I don't know how true to form it is. Millie is an elderly lady in the Amish culture and most times she does not seem to receive the type of treatment that is afforded someone of her age. I also felt at times that her actions and perspectives seemed to be that of a younger, more English person. While the other series works because it is written from an outsider's point of view of the Amish culture, this one attempts to be an Amish view but without the feeling of a true understanding. The mystery seems at times to be background to other issues. It gets solved but I felt a bit underwhelmed. I would give a second book a chance to see if this hits its stride.
Matchmaking Can Be Murder is the first in Amanda Flower's new Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. It's a spin-off from the Amish Sweet Shop Mystery series and follows one of the characters that briefly appeared during one of those investigations.
Millie is an elderly woman who has just returned to her small hometown after years away, looking after an invalid sister. I really liked Millie as a character, I thought she was interesting, likable and nuanced. I really like that while she has an English sidekick--who, as a bonus, just so happens to be a long-lost childhood friend--Millie herself is Amish. As opposed to the other Flower books I've read where the sleuth is looking in on the community, in this one we get more of an insiders outlook. The two women play off each other really well and it let's fun to compare the different outlooks they have from both the younger characters and also from each other.
The mystery is fun: there are a lot of suspects and Millie conducts what seems like quite a thorough investigation. It doesn't feel like she stumbles into anything purely by chance but neither does it feel like the investigation would be impossible for her to achieve.
Matchmaking Can Be Murder is really good for the first book in the series. We got to see quite a lot of characters who can be further developed as it goes on. I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as I did the Sweet Shop books but that might be because I read all four of those back-to-back and so I came out of it with a much stronger attachment to those characters. It could well be that as the Matchmaker series goes on, I will become equally attached to Millie and Lois. Personally, I would have liked to see a little more 'matchmaking' actually take place, but I've got my fingers-crossed for more of that as we go on.
Matchmaking Can Be Murder is a really fun cozy, set in a wonderful little town and community. If you've not read Flower's work yet, this would be a brilliant place to start, and I think it's a really strong instalment that existing fans are going to really enjoy.
I loved everything about this book! I found the mystery well crafted and intriguing, and the characters are enjoyable. I love reading about the Amish community. It's also enjoyable to have an older main character. I will be looking forward to reading more books in this series.
I thought this book might have potential because of the Amish culture. I was disappointed , as the story unfolds and all the characters are introduced the story becomes choppy. I think this is intended to keep the reader interested in the mystery but instead I felt less interested. The story had humorous moments and some twists and turns but lacked the page turning experience that you want when reading a mystery.
Matchmaking Can be Murder, a great cozy mystery. Lol, a Cagney and Lacey of cozy mysteries. Great nickname Lois gives her Amish friend Millie.
Got live frisky goats.
Always enjoy Amanda Flowers books
Reading this story was like stepping into a different world. A different take on the cozy, but still a page turner I wasnt able to put down. I love anything by this author, this book no exception!
This is the first in the Amish Matchmaking series. This is a spin off from the Amish Candy Shop series. You do see your favorite characters in that series however, the focus is strictly Amish and follows Millie Fischer who has recently moved back to Harvest Ohio after spending ten years in Michigan taking care of her older sister. She has two rambunctious goats Peter and Phillip who always chase after the bishops wife Ruth, and she has a knack for knowing who fits together and is a matchmaker. Millie is troubled that her niece Edith is making a mistake by marrying Zeke Miller and is afraid she will have another troubled marriage. Her first husband died three years ago of a drug overdose. Edith has told Millie she is going to break off the engagement just 2 weeks before the wedding and plans to tell Zeke tomorrow on Saturday at the greenhouse. Edith runs Edy's Greenhouse as it was left to her after her father died since her twin brother Enoch left ten years before and was never baptized in the Amish faith. Edith has let Zeke take control of the greenhouse as with the Amish the men are in charge, however the greenhouse is having financial issues. Millie goes to her quilting circle on Saturday knowing Edith is planning to break things off with Zeke but does not share this with her Amish friends as she feels it is not her place to do so. They are meeting at an English cafe that is new to town and it is there she runs into Lois Henry her best friend from childhood. Lois moved back to Harvest after her recent divorce (husband #4) and is helping her granddaughter Darcy. When another Amish women comes in to spread the news that the engagement is off her friends in the quilting circle are upset (especially Ruth Yoder the bishop's wife) that Millie did not share the news. She also learns from one of her friends that her nephew and Edith's twin Enoch is in town. Millie has not seen Enoch in ten years and feels responsible that he left the area and is troubled that Edith did not mention he was back in town. If Enoch were to get baptized Amish the greenhouse would go to him as the son unless Edith has already married before Enoch is baptized (tricky...) Millie goes to church services the next day at Ruth Yoder's house hoping she will see both Enoch and Edith and her children but she has a sense that something is not right and when Edith and the children are not at services she leaves to check on her. Once at the house the children are in the yard playing and tell her that their maam is in the greenhouse. There she finds Edith crying over the body of Zeke Miller her former fiance. She tells Edith to call from the greenhouse phone the bishop and the police. The police arrive and fortuntely it is Aiden Brody who is familar with the Amish ways. Millie knows that Aiden is sharp and Edith is immediately a prime suspect as she picked up the murder weapon (a stone with bible saying on it). Aiden warns Millie to let him do his job. Millie likes Aiden but feels this was a murder within the Amish community who do not trust the police. Millie decides to investigate and learns that Zeke was also seeing Darcy Lois's granddaughter. She goes to the cafe to talk to Darcy and does not believe she killed Zeke as she loved him too much. Lois and Millie decide they must find out who really did this to protect both Edith and Darcy. Lois serves as her driver around town. Millie also pulls in her quilting circle to ask many question and to spread the news that Edith did not kill Zeke. Lois thinks they need code names and dubs Millie Amish Marple. Lois is going to be a lively addition to this series. This was a good solid mystery and although you have hints at times who it could be there are multiple suspects. I enjoyed the crossover with characters that you already know from Harvest as well as the new ones introduced. Highly recommend. Another winner.
Matchmaking Can Be Murder by Amanda Flower is a spin-off from her Amish Candy Shop series and is a promising start in this new series.
I enjoyed getting to know Millie Fisher as she has returned to her hometown of Harvest, OH after having been gone for ten years. Millie is very likable and I enjoyed learning about the Amish culture in her hometown through her eyes. It was delightful to see some old friends of the Amish Candy Shop mysteries, too. However, it was Millie's Englischer friend, Lois, and Millie two goats, Phillip and Peter, who stole the show throughout the book for me. The mystery is a complex one that revealed several suspects and a few twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. I look forward to more of this series from Ms. Flower.
I received a free copy of MATCHMAKING CAN BE MURDER (Book 1 of the Amish Matchmaker Mysteries) by Amanda Flower in exchange for an honest review. This is set in Harvest, Ohio, which is the same community as the Amish Candy Shop Mysteries. Widow Millie Fisher is renown in her community as a matchmaker. Millie’s really worried about how her also-widowed niece Edith will react when Millie tells her that Edith shouldn’t marry her fiancé Zeke Miller. Millie’s relieved when Edith reveals that she intends to break off the engagement as soon as she can. That very evening, gossip of the broken engagement makes the town circuit. When Edith fails to bring her children to church the next day, Millie checks on her and finds Edith standing over Zeke’s lifeless body. Soon, Edith is the prime suspect, and Millie makes her debut as Amish Marple in an effort to keep her niece from being forced to relocate to a penitentiary.
I enjoyed this book. If you like the Amish Candy Shop Mysteries, you should give this one a try. I recommend this book to fans of cozy mysteries featuring Amish farmers and tradespeople, quilters, mischievous animals, determined elders, and sincere hearts.

I enjoy all of this author's books. I look forward to more in this series and after meeting her in another book, I'm glad we have her back story in this one. I love learning new things about the Amish. I like the characters and the town.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
It's a treat to go back and visit the Amish in Harvest, Ohio once again, this time with a new set of characters (although I enjoyed the mentions of Bailey King and Swissmen Sweets). Millie Fisher is a member of the Amish community who is regarded as a matchmaker - she can look at young people and decide which two would be a good match for each other. Her beloved niece, Edith, is supposed to be marrying Zeke - but Millie believes it would be a bad match and is relieved when Edith decides to call off the wedding. But the next morning, after she has done so, Zeke is found dead in the greenhouse that belongs to Edith's business and so Millie must turn her talents from finding romantic matches to finding criminals. This is a fast moving, entertaining story which gives great insight into the lives of the Amish community. It kept my interest from the beginning to the end.
Millie Fisher has moved back to her hometown of Harvest, Ohio. Being an Amish matchmaker, she has the ability to tell whether a couple are a good match or not. Sadly, her niece is set to marry a man that is definitely NOT a good match for her and Millie, a surrogate mother to Edith, decides to speak her mind before they marry. But Edith surprises her Aentie and tells her she is going to call off the engagement.
After the engagement is called off Zeke, the spurned groom is found murdered in Edith’s greenhouse. Being fearful that Edith is the prime suspect, Millie is surprised to find that Zeke was also dating and planning a future with the grand daughter of her childhood best friend, Lois. Both Mille and Lois know their girls are innocent and decide to become the crime fighting duo of Holmes county. Now they need to find who killed Zeke and close this chapter in both girls’ lives, before the killer silences them.
This new series, a spinoff of the Amish Candy Shop series, is off to a great start. You have so much going on in this first book with setting the stage, but the author doesn’t gloss over anything and truly sets the stage. If you have no yet had the pleasure of reading Amanda Flower’s work, this is a great one to start with. Who doesn’t love Amish country and a good mystery?
