"Nour was born luminous. She glows. She sparkles. As though a little sun was shining right inside of her." As much as I feel the power of this opening, I can't forgive that last fragment masquerading as a sentence - in a children's book. Other than that, I loved the message of reclaiming one's inner light and sharing it with others.

This is an adorable little book that tells us everyone can be a superhero. Everyone has a light that can shine bright for everyone to see.

Nour is the hero we all need. This was brilliantly beautiful. It is one of those heartwarming stories where you keep on being you even when others push against you. You are a hero... you are wonderful... you are the best you you can be! The illustrations were so bright yet soft and I really loved reading this to my son.

Nour has sunshine bursting out her and she lights up the darkest corners. She loves herself and her special sparkle until she goes to school and begins to doubt how special she is. She shares her love and light with her baby sister and realizes she her light is special after all. A beautiful story.

Nour is luminous.
.
How beautiful a first line is that? It's quite beautiful in Ian de Haes' children's book, "Superluminous."
.
Not only is Nour luminous, she also glows and sparkles. Without effort, she illuminates dark places and glows in the light until the first day of school where she leaves feeling like an old lightbulb. Although, she had hoped to be more like a superhero.

"For the rest of the week, Nour wears thick heavy clothes that don't let her light get through." Haes writes. She makes herself so unremarkable and completely invisible. Her glow begins to leave.

It returns when she helps her sister.

"Superluminous" shows a young girl who chose to be less than who she truly was, and it caused sadness, while being herself and fully allowing her light to be shared helped push away fears...like a superhero.

Great story to share for children doubting the beauty of their own light. 3.5star

Pair it with freshly squeezed lemon and key limeade for a bittersweet treat.

This is a book that has a charming cover and an interesting name, which may be hard for some younger readers to pronounce or understand without an adult to explain it.

The actual story is tender and sweet while exploring the concept of a little introverted girl who was born different as any other child but in a way that was quite recognizable. When she was alone she had emotions that set her apart but she was also able to embrace her powers. But that would all change when she finally went to school.

Superluminous explores what it means to be different, to ask the question what makes a superhero, to learn how to accept yourself and how to pass your gifts onto others. It is a story that everyone has felt at one point or another or even in some cases more than once.

The pictures are gorgeous and very detailed with a nice golden glow for Nour. But at the same time there are vague outlines to everything else that also tells their own stories so for those who are reading this book to children you may ask them what they think that other story is.

Definitely a beautiful story to be shared to little ones who are starting to wonder what makes them important and/or what constitutes a superhero.

Adorable. Reminds me of Perfectly Norman by Percival and how each of us had our own special something g that makes us us, and can be shared with the world. #Superluminous #NetGalley

A sweet story about a girl who is embarrassed about what makes her different (she glows!), but learns to embrace and share it.

Superluminous was Super-Cute. (Get it) the illustrations were wonderfully done. The story was very sweet and it gives such a wonderful message to children, since now we see it more and more how younger generations are bombarded with negativity, Nour's message is wonderful and i believe will resonate with the adult audience too.

There are kids who don't immediately fit in. There's something about them that's different and special. And that's good. We tell them how special they are and to just be themselves. Then they are confronted with the rest of the world where what makes them special marks them as different and different makes you a target. De Haes interprets this pretty literally with a light that shines from this little girl. A difference that she knows has benefit but which others avoid. And suddenly feeling different and less causes her light to dim. She feels diminished. Its only when she uses it to help someone that her light brightens again and eventually spreads. The message here isn't "if you're patient you'll find people who accept you" but rather "don't let disapproval dim your light". Its about using our gifts to help others and kindness being the balm that soothes our hurts.

I wasn't sure where the story of a glowing little girl was about to take me, but it definitely took me to a good place and put a smile on my face. Just when Nour's glowing moments were beginning to get a little monotonous, it was time for Nour to start school. As at all school's, someone tried to convince Nour there wasn't anything special about her light, if anything it was too bright, and her light became hidden. But as I read, Nour found someone to share her light with who needed it, and then she shared with more people, and more! Suddenly, Nour's whole world was lighter, and so was mine. This is a great story to share with young people to help them see that one person can create a better, brighter world.

This is a fun story about loving yourself, those around you, and recognizing the light you bring into the world.

While reading, older readers and adults will be able to see how Nour’s glowing could be a metaphor for her sharing something uplifting with the world. I think it could be her warmth towards others or her joy and charm. Younger kids may understand it literally and believe it is about a glowing girl who discovers her superpower. Either way, the bright illustrations with the small details are a delight to the eyes and the ultimate message is positive. The scenes when Nour feels picked upon, unsure, and wants to be invisible could be opportunities for caring adults to talk with children about these feelings.

Thanks to the publisher for the e-galley. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Annick Press Ltd. in exchange for an honest review.

In this book Nour (which means light in Arabic - learned something new) has a special glow; when she starts going to school her classmates point out that her glow isn't that special and Nour starts to believe them. This is a beautiful book teaching kids to believe in themselves and to not let others hurtful comments bring you down.

I loved the gorgeous pictures in this book. They were so bright and detailed. They really flowed with the story and made it come alive. The text flowed well and wasn't too much for little readers to listen to. The story about finding what makes you special and trying to good for others was well told. I recommend this book.

Superluminous, by Ian De Haes, is a beautiful story about sharing your light with others.

In this picture book, you meet a special young girl. Her name is Nour. Nour has a light about her. Wherever she goes, she shines.

Problems start for Nour when she starts school. The kids at school are not impressed by her light. They tell her she doesn't have powers, and she isn't a real superhero. Nour becomes embarrassed by her light, so she starts to hide behind lots of heavy clothes. Slowly, but surely, Nour's light weakens and starts to disappear.

One night, Nour heard her babysitter crying. She was scared of the dark. Nour decided to crawl into her sister's crib and utilize what little light she had left to ease her baby sister's fear. When they wake up, they both are surprised to find that now they both are shining bright.

This moment changes things for Nour. She realizes that her light is not something to be embarrassed about. Instead, she figures out that she can spread her light and share it with others through her kindness and love.

Superluminous is a beautiful picture book with a really special message. I read it, and I immediately called my daughter over so I could read it to her. It is a message that teaches children to shine brightly in this world. It is one I want all children of this world to know and carry with them.

Gorgeous illustrations and beautiful story! Will resonate with several age levels - easily understandable by younger readers, but a deeper meaning for older readers. Will be purchasing for the library and for gifts!

A stunning story about embracing our unique qualities, and how they grow as we accept ourselves and share with others.
