Dead in Dublin is a very promising series debut featuring retired American military medic Megan Malone. When Megan, in her forties, gets out of the service, she relocates to Dublin and gets a job driving a limo for an irascible female owner who also becomes her landlady.
Megan is an intelligent and appealing character. She has built a good life filled with Irish and American friends and she likes her job. Until the day she finds a client dead, poisoned. And unfortunately, the victim's last meal was at Megan's friend's restaurant.
Megan feels an obligation to help both her chef friend and her client's widowed husband. But then the investigation reveals things may be pretty complicated. The husband had plenty to hide, and rumors of money laundering and gangs surface. The investigating officer tries to keep Megan from interfering but she wants to help and finds out things the Irish garda cannot.
This was a great read and I look forward to the next one. Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in return for my honest opinion.
A delightfully different twist on the cozy mystery. I like that the main character was different, didn't own a small business, and just seemed more real. The story itself was written with such a nice flow, there was no wondering around feeling lost. I hope this is a series that will last, I cannot wait to see what else the author has in store for the characters.
A cozy mystery that is a tad unrealistic at times. Middle aged female limo driver in Ireland basically solves a double murder. Lots of reference to Molly Malone whether it was the song or the statue. Having visited Dublin and surrounding areas I enjoyed being able to picture places , such as the Temple Bar Area, Grafton Street and the fishing community of Bray.
I really enjoyed this first book in the series. I look forward to more. I liked the main character, Megan. I like the Dublin and surrounding area scenery. Can't wait to see how her life progresses. The mystery kept me guessing as well.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first in a new Dublin Driver Mystery series. The main character Megan Malone has been living in Ireland for the last 3 years and has been a limo driver taking all sorts of tourists around the city and surrounding area. Being an American she often has American tourists and she has been driving around for the last several weeks food blogger Elizabeth Darr and her husband Simon. Megan is waiting for Elizabeth and Simon outside the Canan restaurant where her friend Fionn is the chef and part owner. She sees that Elizabeth has collapsed right by the famous statue of Molly Malone (also Elizabeth’s favorite song) and her husband Simon who is a doctor is doing CPR. Megan rushes over to help as she is a former military medic but nothing can save Elizabeth. The police (Garda) arrive and shut down the restaurant. Fionn is freaking out as in Ireland the chef is responsible if it is food poisoning and her business partner Martin and owner of the bar upstairs is freaking out that the places must be closed for a few days to clear the restaurant of food poisoning. Megan is also devastated as she like both Elizabeth and Simon. Megan goes to find out more but the cute Garda Detective Bourke will not give her much info so she goes to the hospital to pick up Simon and take him back to the hotel. She also learns Simon ate some of the same food that Liz did so she let’s Fionn know that it is unlikely it is food poisoning. What kills a young healthy woman that quickly? Megan goes to the hotel the next morning to check on Simon and gets a request from him to pick up Liz’s parents that day from the airport. Megan agrees although her boss is not going to like it as she wants to distance herself and Megan from this whole mess. While at the hotel the computer plays a new blog from Liz that is like seeing a ghost. She then goes to the restaurant to check on Fionn. While there she hears a crash in the kitchen and finds a dog and her two new puppies? Fionn can’t keep them with the health inspectors coming by so Megan takes them in and swears she is not keeping them (time will tell on that). The waitress Ciara is devastated that she has done something and Megan again assures both of them it is unlikely to be food poisoning. She is looking for clues as she feels Liz needs justice. The next thing we find out is that Martin is murdered and Megan struggles to see how can the two murders be related. The story unfolds at a good pace and Megan surrounds herself with some colorful characters (Dee) and friends. I did not guess who the murderer was and enjoyed getting to know Megan and her friends. This is going to be an interesting new series and look forward to the next one. Highly recommend.
A new first and a great start for this mystery series with interesting characters, great descriptions, and a good plot line with a surprise ending. setting up for the next book, which I look forward to reading.
Dead in Dublin is a very good, fun read. Great little story, a little unlikely - but aren't most cozy mysteries, really? There's an interesting cast of characters, a great set up for future mysteries, and a wonderful setting - the glimpse of Dublin life made this even more fun. This has the potential to be a really good series. I will read more! Many thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the e-arc. 4 stars!
I had a hard time getting into this book. The main character just did not strike a chord with me. Well, or rather she struck a negative chord with me. I did not like the main character or some of the depictions of tourists, in particular, Americans. While I have been to Ireland and Dublin, I didn't find this to be particularly inviting. The beginning of the book almost seemed to be manic to me which set the tone for me for the rest of the book.
When she finished up her military career, Megan Malone relocated to Dublin, Ireland. She works for Leprechaun Limos, driving tourists all over the city. It's about as far from her former military skills as she can get...but she loves it. Most days it's pretty routine....driving people here and there, giving a bit of touristy color and history to her clients. Until the day one of her passengers drops dead. A well-known restaurant and food critic, Elizabeth Darr, dies....after eating at a local restaurant. With the police investigating the eatery to rule out food poisoning, Megan is concerned. The restaurant is owned by a friend, and she doesn't want its reputation ruined. She finds herself doing a bit of sleuthing to find out what actually happened to Elizabeth Darr. Who wanted the popular food critic dead??
I love this new series! The characters and setting are just fun and entertaining! Despite the fact that I can't properly pronounce any of the Irish names....I enjoyed this book! Megan is an interesting and intelligent main character. The side characters are quirky and entertaining. I'm not sure I would enjoy being a limo driver, but it might be a bit of fun to drive tourists around a city with such an interesting history and folklore behind it. I would definitely not want one of my passengers to drop dead before my very eyes though. Megan did a lot better job handling that situation than I would!
Great start to a new series! I will definitely be reading more! The second book in the Dublin Driver Mystery series, Death on the Green, will be out in September 2020.
**I voluntarily read an advance review copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**
I had trouble getting into this story - wasn't sure about the main character or the setting. However I have ordered it for my store as I have a few customers that may find the setting to their liking.

Kensington publishers via a NetGallery for the
opportunity.
This was a interesting book. The story, the main character and occupation are very different that what you normally get in a cozy mystery. I enjoyed it. The main character is an American working as a limo driver in Ireland. The descriptions of the city are enjoyable and easy to picture. It's well paced and I really liked the dogs. #DeadinDublin #NetGalley
Megan Malone has retired from the US military and moved from Texas to Dublin, Ireland. Working as a driver for the Leprechaun Limo Service she gets to meet lots of interesting people and even some Americans from back home. When one of her regular customers dies after dinner at a friend’s restaurant, Meg wants to help the American husband and her local friends clear their name and get back to business.
As Meg follows the crumbs of the trail, she discovers some unsavory things about not only the husband of the deceased, but the business partner of her friend. Can Meg help her friends or will she be shipped back to the US in a box?
This is a great start to a new series. A strong female character following her own dreams and living life in her adopted home of Dublin. I look forward to the next entry in this series and spending more time in Dublin with Meg and seeing what the future holds for her and the dogs.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish. The main event in the story starts on page one and the journey is on from there. I loved Megan an Fionn the best. (I hope I spelled that right...I can't remember how to spell it when I am not looking at it.)
I love that Catie Murphy put a pronunciation guide in the beginning. I would have been very lost without it. American minds don't read unfamiliar Irish names well.
The story was thrilling. The writing was amazing. And I really want about a thousand more adventures with Megan Malone.
Well done, Catie Murphy.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC of this book.
*I hope an audiobook version is in the works. My mom can't read well any more and would enjoy it better that way.

After twenty years as a US army medic, Megan relocated to the family homeland in Dublin and made a new life there. First came a job as a driver with a car hire service complete with a very cranky boss and a decent apartment at a good price. The writer makes good use of the differences and adjustments from American English to local English, and that's a very good thing. She has made numerous friends over the past three years and some of them are very important to this case. All of the characters are well done and engaging.
She has been the driver for a noted restaurant critic and her husband for a time now, which is why she is on hand when the critic falls dead on the pavement in front of a friend's restaurant and meets an interesting law officer. Let the sleuthing begin! The publisher's blurb is really pretty good and spoilers are just wrong! I loved it and want more!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
I really enjoy the writings of this author under another genre and this was no exception. Quite a fast paced story line and am looking forward to more in the series.
I received a free copy of DEAD IN DUBLIN (Book 1 of the Dublin Driver Mysteries) by Catie Murphy in exchange for an honest review. Megan Malone works as a driver for the Leprechaun Limo Service in Dublin, Ireland. Since she’s from the United States, she often bonds with her American clients. After driving American food critic Elizabeth Darr and her husband, Simon, around the city for awhile, Meg has formed a friendly bond with the couple. When Elizabeth collapses shortly after eating at a restaurant owned by a friend of Meg’s and when food poisoning is thought to have been the cause of death, both of Meg’s friends, Simon Darr and the restaurant owner, cajole Meg into investigating. Meg does so against the wishes of her boss, who wants to distance her business from the ghastly death. Because additional people begin to either disappear or die under mysterious circumstances, Meg knows the perpetrator has to be stopped before the devastating crimes can continue.
I liked this book. I thought it was a pretty good start to a new series. I recommend this book to fans of cozy mysteries involving ex-patriots, Ireland, limousines, mysterious uncles, and cranky bosses.

This is an entertaining first in a new series.
I found the characters and whodunit well written and look forward to the next in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is an excellent cozy mystery for a new series by Catie Murphy. It follows limo driver Megan and an eclectic band of characters in Dublin. After a food critic and then a club owner are murdered, Megan sort of accidently helps the lead investigator with solving the case.
I loved the quirky characters and the attention to the setting, including all the different phrases and expressions common in Dublin. It did a good job of immersing the reader in the culture. The characters were realistic and the plot interesting. Hopefully there will be more to come.
Dead in Dublin by Catie Murphy is the first in a new cozy mystery series centered in current-day Dublin. The main character is Megan (a 40 y/o woman who moved to Dublin 3 years ago from the States) and drives limos/cars for a local company. By creating this unique position, the author has thought of a way to create a lot of “avenues” for future installments and plot lines. Quite creative!
I like Megan and her fiery streak of independence. I feel she is likeable, realistic, and relatable. I also enjoyed meeting the array of friends and quirky characters that will hopefully continue to evolve and grace us with their presence in the future.
I enjoyed the plot line, the murder/mystery, and the surprise ending. It definitely sets up for the next book in an exciting manner.
I enjoyed most of all the descriptions of the landscapes and historical landmarks that make Dublin the beauty that it is. The author did a fabulous job creating such vivid imagery for the reader.
Excellent start. 5/5 stars
