Okay, WHAT?! 3/4 of the book just dragged on, I had no idea what the book actually was about. And then the twist out of nowhere. It makes no sense. The suddenly change of direction in the book. I’m sorry but no. There are no clues leading up to it. You’re led to believe that Olivia is an attention seeking brat, who hates her parents and have no respect for anyone. You’re led to believe that maybe Hannah is going a little insane, that she’s way to quick to think the worst about Olivia. But this is not clues that lead up to the twist.. that twist does not make up for the first 3/4 were nothing really happens.

This was really disappointing, which is a shame cause I got interested after reading the blurb. And the cover was beautiful

Decently paced story with a holy crap twist ending. Not my favorite Victoria Jenkins book, but still a good read.

I was hooked on this book from the first few pages and couldn’t put it down. I definitely did not see the ending coming and it’s one of the most twisted and darkest that I’ve read in a while.
I really enjoyed it and will definitely look out for more from this author is future.

Wow! So not what I was expecting. But in the best way possible! The premise is that 15 year old Olivia is angry she’s not been allowed to go to a party. But she goes anyway. And her Mom finds out and there’s consequences to this, Anyone with a teenager or remembers being 15 will identify with this. And many will recall saying or hearing the words “I hate you. Im never speaking to you again.” When we don’t get our way in our sometimes rebellious teens. And we are all probably familiar with the silent treatment too! It’s in most teenagers arsenal of tricks. But this is where The Argument ends and the story really takes off. And boy does it ever. Told from the point of views of both Olivia the teenage daughter and her mother Hannah and a few diary entries hold on to your hats because you’re in for a thrill! This is one of the most sick and twisted stories I have ever read. For the first third, you think of the poor mother with the rebellious daughter and supportive husband. The second two thirds, I had to re-read some paragraphs as I was sure I was misinterpreting the story. Nope. I knew Victoria Jenkins from a previous novel but was really unprepared for the full story being revealed - a shocking, disgusting and thoroughly unexpected twist left me stunned. Like a car accident I couldn’t look away.

Not a great read for me, I can see what the author was attempting to achieve but sadly failed to do so to my liking

I found this book to be ok, as a huge lover of books centred around family dramas I was excited to read this but overall I was left quite underwhelmed.

In the beginning we see Olivia and Hannah arguing about Olivia sneaking out to a party which causes Olivia to vow that she will never speak to her mother again. We then follow the family as they try to navigate the situation as it becomes apparent that Olivia is in desperate need of attention and understanding.

I did find the characters to be well depicted but overall I found the plot to be rather lacklustre.

Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for an early copy of The Argument. I’m not really sure how to explain this book, it was very very very slow and I wanted to put it down a few times but I stuck with it and wow it got very weird. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the plot.

The book was just ok for me. It became a bit mundane and seemed to just average. The blurb builds up far more than it was for me. I did finish but no big wow moments As the other reviewers, maybe it was so much more.

The problem with catch phrases on book covers is that they tend to oversell the story—and sure, maybe it sells more books, but readers will look at it more severely had the catch phrases not been there. In here, I was therefore to expect a “gripping psychological thriller” with “an incredible twist.” Instead of gripping, it stalled and felt bleak. I didn't guess the twist, but I'll be damned if any reader does. When it finally came—80% in, no less—I just wanted to close the book and be done with it. Why? Because it's the worst of twists: it's the one where there's nothing whatsoever that hints the reader, there's no building toward it. So yes, it is indeed incredible, as in not credible: it makes no sense—shock value perhaps?—so out of character that you have to wonder if you're not reading the end of another book. I couldn't connect with the characters before said twist, let alone understand their motivations. After the twist, I didn't even want to try anymore.

Very well written and excellent characters. With teenagers daughters of my own there are times when you feel like you connect with them, but then there are so many twists that I was left surprised. Definitely recommend

This book has so many twists and turns! This was a great thriller! It got me from page one and I couldn't stop reading til I found out how it would end. And I did not see the ending coming! It is well written, and I would highly recommend it!

The story to me was going one way where it appears that Hannah is the victim to Olivia's teenage attitude and rebellious behaviour and I was expecting a completely different ending but Victoria intentionally leads the reader into one direction and then turns the plot around and it's true when people say no one has any idea what goes on behind closed doors, Michael has been manipulating Hannah since they met and the thing that got me most was that he was briefly brought into the story here and there. It's a cleverly written book that as I've said surprised me at the end. I knew I was going to look this from it’s premise and it odd for disappoint! Having a daughter the same she, I could totally relate. I raced through it, often with my heart in my throat! A fab book!

So I think this story has potential, but I can't say I loved it as is, though I did enjoy reading it. It's a simple premise - a mother and daughter argue after the daughter, Olivia, was caught having snuck out to a party. Olivia gets so angry with her mother, Hannah, that she swears never to talk to her again. And that's pretty much it. The story continues along with Olivia speaking only to her younger sister, Rosie, and remaining silent with her mother and father for several days. At the same time, she starts acting out at school, getting herself suspended and in even more trouble at home.

We soon start to realize that Olivia is in desperate need of attention, we just don't quite know why. Hannah's internal dialogue paints Olivia as this rebellious child that asks too many questions and doesn't appreciate what she has. But we can tell there's something not quite right with Hannah, either. She constantly dotes on Rosie and distances herself from Olivia with no real reason why. It's hinted at that Hannah has some secrets of her own from when she was a teenager - could that be the key behind her strange behavior?

The reader comes to learn some twisted secrets about this family and there's a surprising reveal, but I think it takes too long to get there and some readers won't stick it out to see what' it's all about. A large portion of the book is slowly paced, spent on the characters internal conflicts without much action to the story. I think it was worth it, but it will be up to the reader to decide for themselves.

Anyway this book is anything but just an argument, in fact my only small criticism is the title which really doesn’t do the book justice
It starts as a good family drama, obviously building a picture for us all and hinting that there is more to come
And come it does, once it starts there is no stopping and it has to be one of the most shocking set of twists in a book this year
It made me feel disgust, horror and incredulity as to what this family were/are and what they have done/are doing
It is really difficult to not give anything away as writing this but I am determined not to as want the feeling of repulsion to go through you as it did me as you discover just what the book leads to and what this family is
A devastatingly good book, well written and narrated and if this book doesn’t leave you shuddering nothing will

OMG!!!!! This book is in my top 10 for 2019. This is a definite must read. Victoria Jenkins does not disappoint. This is the first book I read from her and boy she really hit this one out of the ballpark. It is a stand alone novel that deals with issues that are tough to talk about.

This book was about a rebellious teen daughter who defies her loving, caring mother by going to a party. After the teen gets caught she gets into it a fight with her mom. The daughter refuses to speak to both of her parents after this. Why did the teen stop talking? What exactly happened at this party? What is she hiding?

I want to start off by saying that I really thought this book was going one way but it really through me for a loop and went another way in the end. I still can not believe the ending of this book. I read it in 2 days but would have kept going the first day but I needed to eat and sleep. As each chapter went on I just could not believe the surprises that kept coming. It was like opening presents on a Christmas morning. All the characters through me for a loop. The person I thought was bad actual turned out good and the person who was good turned out bad. Victoria Jenkins really out did herself with these characters and all the twists that kept coming at me the entire book. I can not wait to read more of her books.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The Argument by Victoria Jenkins is the book about a mother/teenage daughter relationship that is being tested. Olivia hates her mother, Hannah. She feels like Hannah is controlling and out to make her life miserable. Hannah is trying her hardest to parent a teenager, and her patience is constantly tested. When Olivia sneaks out one night, she has her phone taken. Olivia vows never to speak to her mother again. For the next week, Olivia is successful. But in that week, secrets spill out about mother and daughter. Is Hannah's perception as an overly cautious parent real or is she controlling more than she realizes? Is Olivia an extra rebellious teenager, or is she sending a message that something else is going on?

I was fully taken by surprise by the ending. Jenkins played out the book well so that for the majority of the book, the reader takes the characters for face value. I won't spoil it, but the idyllic life that Hannah works so hard for is not all it appears to be. The plot twist at the end is what really makes this book endearing. My only criticism is that I wish it could have been built up a little more and then played out for longer.
