I loved the cute illustrations in this book. I loved the mouse especially. I feel that the story was okay. Not amazing.
Going to the doctor is scary for kids and this was a great little book to get them less scared or nervous and more excited about going to the doctor.
I liked the images, and I liked the story. I didn't love it. My son wasn't completely engaged. I think it's a book we will need to come back to when he's a bit older.
To start, I absolutely adore these illustrations. I just prefer these hand-crafted illustrations so much more than the newer digital ones. These take a different kind of time and talent to create. And you can just feel the warmth and love inside of them, almost like how Grandma's chocolate cake always tastes better because it has that extra bit of love inside of it. And I guess they make me a bit more nostalgic.
This story is also sweet with a really good message. Every day, Doctor Mouse opens up for consultations on whatever seems to be the matter. He has six chairs in his waiting room. And he will not start discussing your problems until the chairs are full. It becomes kind of a group therapy session. Each animal who comes in shares with Doctor Mouse what is bother him or her. But instead of the doctor figuring out how to fix it, they all figure out ways to help each other.
It reminded me of when I had my Montessori classroom. Children would come to me wanting immediate answers. I would pause and wait, maybe give them a small hint, and then they would eventually figure it out for themselves or find ways of helping each other instead. And that actually works better than having someone solve all of your problems for you.
So I think this is a great lesson to kids about being helpful with each other. And did I mention how much I love these illustrations? I give this one 4.5 stars.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This children's book was just ok for me. I can see where the author was going with this but it wasn't exciting enough to hold anyone's interest here. It was a nice idea but the execution missed its mark.
Doctor Mouse is a cute and simple story about friendship and helping others.
This is such an interesting take and I liked the sense of community and friendship and how the animals helped each other. Also, I find it humorous how Dr Mouse waits for every seat to be filled before starting.
The only concern I have is that some scenes may be a little wordy for the young ones but at least the artwork is captivating and beautiful each page. I loved the art—the illustrations are gorgeous.

I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was humorous, with a good lesson as well. This book read like a fairy tale, albeit, a modern one, with a good mix of nonsense, sprinkled with some lighthearted humor and the always important lesson of looking to your friends and neighbors for help in times of need. It reminded me of Henny Penny, the story of the hen who tried to bake a loaf, except without the vindictive and lazy friends, and instead with helpful ones. I can understand why some people could be confused. The story is a bit wordy and nonsensical, but all the best stories are really. And there are some more difficult words, but if you are reading this to children, then you can easily substitute an easier synonym or explain the meaning. I don't think this would be the story for emerging readers to necessarily read on their own, maybe this would be better for slightly more skilled readers. However, I believe any children would like this read to them, especially if you give voices to the animals. :)
This children's book was just ok. The illustrations were pretty cute in an old-fashioned way, and I enjoyed the emphasis on community being more helpful than medicine. It was a sweet idea. But it was long winded and ended a little strange. My son didn't care for it, either.
Thank you to NetGalley and North South books for the free copy of Doctor Mouse by Christa Kempter in exchange for an honest review.
Doctor Mouse by Christa Kempter is a cute story about a doctor to get children to see that doctors can be okay to go to through the use of cute animals.
"Doctor Mouse" is a cute and clever picture book for children that tells the story of a day in the life of a doctor mouse and his patients, where the doctor does little more than gather various ailed animals in a barn and mediate open discussion among the group. As each animal patient reveals his or her ailment, another patient provides a solution for that ailment, and by the end of the day, these patients leave with new friendships and happier than they were previously. This book teaches that there can be many benefits of friends and community.
Beautiful illustrations that peak your interest and have you searching out the details on the page. The story was amazing and delicately unveils how people can help each other to solve their problems. Translated from German, no spelling errors that I could see. A great edition to any child’s bookshelf!

My two kiddos loved this book! The illustrations were cute, the storyline was adorable. We'd read it again!
I understand what this book was trying to do, but I thought it was a little too long winded for a children’s book, and I didn’t love the illustrations either.
I enjoyed reading this book to my daughter. She enjoyed looking at the pictures and seeing all the animals. It was a cute story about friendship and helping, but I felt like the ending wasn’t complete.
My favourite part has to be that Doctor Mouse wants to wait till ALL the chairs are filled before he begins, that and the little twist at the end! Definitely recommend for story time!
Thanks NetGalley and North South books for a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. This is a book by a German author and so I am a bit unsure as to whether I am missing something. It is obviously aimed at 3-5 year olds, and the illustrations are fine for that age category, but I am confused as to what exactly the point of the story is, other than different species of animals use self-help to overcome each others problems. There you go! Not much more than that, and Doctor Mouse does little more than greet everyone, eat cheese and ask for their issues. He does nothing else. It is OK and that is about all I can say.
This was a cute storybook. I thoroughly enjoyed the illustration style, and my step daughter really liked all the different animals helping each other out. All told, I would recommend this story to my friends and family.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Let me start off by saying that Doctor Mouse is every generic customer service rep who says the 'right things' and then doesn't help you.
That was...underwhelming? I've seen some reviews saying that it lost something in translation and that makes sense. The illustrations were kind of nice as well, but felt very aged.
Doctor Mouse is filled with peaceful detailed illustrations. The doctor is quite busy with his patients and cube cheese breakfast. I wonder if he needs spectacles as well since he didn’t recognize the dog & thought bear was a wolf. The story also has a counting theme throughout that will reinforce this math concept. Toward the end the text didn’t flow and it may be due to typesetting or other issue.
Dr. Mouse is a sweet story about the Dr. opening his office every day and waiting until he has six patients before he sees anyone. As the patients begin talking, they begin solving their problems together. The illustrations are beautiful but, the story was a little too long for my 3 year old granddaughter. She enjoys being read to but, she also made up her own cute story when she told her Mom about the story.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book for my opinion.
