Doctor Mouse by Kristen Kempter is a sweet little story for children. This story will help children who don’t like going to the doctor. This book is very readable and has wonderful illustrations. I recommend this book.

Doctor Mouse sees six patients a day from sunrise to sunset. But for some reason, he can only see one at a time once all 6 patients arrive. Each animal/patient arrives with a different ailment, but it turns out that they all end up helping each other, with Doctor Mouse doing nothing more than hosting the gathering. He eats cheese until he gets tired, falls asleep, and the 6 patients lovingly close up his shop and plan to do it all again tomorrow.

This was supposed to be a funny book but as I read it to my 2 year old, I found myself wanting to skip over the too-large portion of the text. As we finished the book, I literally said to her, "What just happened?" There wasn't much of a point to this picture book except the gorgeous illustrations. The artwork is painted, sweet, and really beautiful. I wish the story matched.

Doctor Mouse is a cute children's book about a mouse who works as a doctor, and the patients (several different animals) that visit his office on a busy morning. As the patients file in, we hear their complaints which are then quickly resolved without much assistance from the doctor at all.

This is a cute book with an interesting premise but it wasn't exceptionally unique. I would have liked to see the story developed a little further. However, I would give it to a child to read despite this.

The illustartions in this were so wonderfully done.

The store didn't really hold my attention, and I didn't feel like there was really a moral either.

Children's books are a whole new world.I am amazed at the simplicity of the story but the big message given to children in this book. This book is about how no problem is big problem if you have your friends around you .How a community builds and works .

Story Notes

Doctor Mouse is a cute little story about helping others and learning to help yourself, too.

Children’s books that teach kindness and friendship are always favorites with me. Kiddos go through and see so much that is negative in their lives that it’s nice to be able to counter that with a book that is so positive. This sweet little story starts with the kind Doctor Mouse setting up his daily practice in the barn and waiting for patients. He has a rule that all chairs must be filled before discussion of problems can begin. Soon there are 5 patients ready to share their troubles and Doctor Mouse agrees to go ahead with discussion. As they talk through their individual needs, the others offer suggestions of help and quickly solve the dilemmas. It turns out that Doctor Mouse just needed to get everyone talking so they could help each other out. And everyone is pleased with the doctors methods and plan to come visit again tomorrow. I loved reading this book and am planning to share it with my nephews this evening. The grumpiness and hurts that each character had are quickly soothed with the kindness of others. Friendships are made, fears are overcome, clear sight is restored and stomach aches are made better when each characters offers what they have to help another out. The only tiny issue I found in the book was that in a couple sections it was clear that this book had been translated from another language but overall the translation was well done. This is certainly a book I would recommend to others as a good and positive read. It will help parents and children talk about helping others and giving what is needed if able. It might also help parents show younger children that doctors are not scary and only want to help people.

A mouse sets up a clinic in the barn, but isn't able to treat his patients one at a time. Instead, they solve their own problems while they wait.

Was this book translated from a different language? Or maybe I'm just missing the point of the story? It all felt a little disjointed.

This is a cute book. I view it as one that must be read to a child by an adult. The illustrations are adorable. A child could make up their own story by looking at the pictures.
Each day Dr. Mouse opens up for business but sees no patients until all six chairs are filled.
On this day one chair remains empty. Later a fox shows up but says he is not a patient.
There is no great message here, but kids can learn that by helping others sometimes their own problems may be solved.

Best part of this story is ; story itself.
It is wonderful story about a doctor who is busy in office and his patients.
Doctor doesn't give medications or operate, he solves problems by cooperation.
He treats bigger and smaller animals and even owls.
Artwork is excellent. Colors which fade into background with expert use of light and dark shadows, it is mesmerizing.
Use of watercolors is bold and smooth.
Colors are easy on the eye, as the story which is cosy on brain.
My son heard the story and liked it very much.
Highly recommended children book.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.

A cute story, though a little wordy for the attention span of the munchkins. It was cute, but not likely to be one they pick frequently. I do wonder if dr mouse will put his coat on the right way tomorrow.

Doctor Mouse was an adorable book that can show children how to be helpful and kind. There are strong themes of friendship and acceptance throughout. Also, the soft illustrations are beautiful and very engaging!

I am guessing this book was originally written in another language and does not do well in translation. Dr. Mouse has some peculiarities about his practice, treating six patients a day, not beginning to deal with them until all six chairs were occupied and really not having any diagnosis for his patients at all. They actually help each other, somewhat like a support group. Of course, none of the problems were actually medical at all. I tried to read this to my grandson, but he was not interested in the story and actually asked me to read something else. I tried to read it on two separate occasions but he was not interested. He actually said, "No, I don't like that one grandma." Sorry, this was a miss for us. Perhaps it might be better geared to older children, but I am not even sure of that.

A well written and fun book to show how we can help people around us. All of these animals come to Dr. Mouse not knowing each other, but they solve each other's problems by being kind.

Doctor Mouse sets up his shingle every morning, but will only treat patients once all 6 chairs in his waiting room are filled. While each patient is waiting they talk amongst themselves, and soon enough they come to a resolution that is mutually beneficial, and the good doctor gets the credit.

Doctor Mouse is a charming little story about friendship. Aimed at younger readers, it shows that problems shared are problems halved (or even solved!), and promotes the concepts of kindness, collaboration and empathy.

Unlike other reviewers, I disagree that the book was too wordy or verbose for the intended audience. Kids aren't dumb, and they will happily read (if they're old enough) or listen to longer passages of text. The layouts were nicely done with just enough text to illustration (although sadly some layouts didn't convert well to the kindle format)

A lovely little book.

I loved this little book. The illustrations are wonderful and the premise is great. Dr. Mouse lets the waiting room fill with patients and while they are waiting they talk to each other. To their surprise, they find that they can solve each others problems just with a visit, a helping hand, an ear to listen.

What a wonderful message to little ones, I loved it !!!!!

Will post to Amazon upon publication.

I’m not sure this mouse is a real doctor, heh.

I suppose I was expecting a story about a medical doctor overcoming adversity. Like a clinical Zootopia, if you will.

Instead I got a group therapist that has patients solve each other’s problems. The moral of the story was lost on me and the translation left something to be desired.

Dr. Mouse is the choice physician for the whole animal community. He is friendly and wise and truly desires to be there for his patients. He only allows six patients a day and only sees them one at a time.

He begins his day by swinging open the old barn door and hanging out his shingle... "Consultations from sunrise to sunset." He arranges his six chairs, dons his white lab coat and lays three cushions on a wobbly armchair. On top of the pile he conducts his business for the day while snacking on his breakfast cheese.

He is not disappointed by a slow, no-show day because in comes a chicken, a dog, a bear, an owl, and finally a fox. Dr. Mouse directs them to their designated seats in his waiting room. His strict rule is that no business is conducted until all six chairs are occupied.

After the sixth patient arrivals Dr. Mouse tends to his patient's health needs one at a time as specified. As each wait their turn to see the good doctor a lot of the healing is administered from patient to patient and the doctor becomes the facilitator.

The illustrations are well detailed, witty and oftentimes funny. Problem solving by the group turns into therapy sessions and medical breakthroughs.

Doctor Mouse giggled, and gobbles up his last cube of cheese. "Isn't it wonderful, my dears? Everybody is fit and well again, all bright and cheerful."

The satisfied animals all cured of their maladies leave exhausted Dr. Mouse sound asleep on his pillow and once outside they declare to the world:

"He's SO nice!" says dog.
"Best doctor in the world," boomed the bear. "He always knows what to do."

Oozing with charm, from both the illustration work and the writing. Things work out not because one person was able to solve every problem himself, but because a number of people gathered together. The power of collaboration and kindness!
