A page turned with tangled clues to unravel this mystery, welcome to the latest yarn retreat. Enjoyable and entertaining. Love this series.
I am a cozy mystery fan and read many cozy mysteries. That being said I admit to having some top 5 favorite series and this is in my top 3 of favorite all time cozy series. Every time the author has a new release I stop everything to read each new book cover to cover. I adore this series and the world the author has created for us in charming Pacific Grove California at the iconic Asilomar resort . Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.
In this 7th in the iconic "Yarn Retreat Series" our favorite protagonist Casey Feldstein is planning her next retreat and busy baking her popular baked goods for local restaurants and cafe's after hours . She is indeed one very busy person balancing her responsibilities. She has made peace with her new life and finally moved into the house her Aunt left her . She enjoys doing yarn retreats and arranging the retreats around different themes for the knitters. She has a love interest and friends that she enjoys spending time with. She feels her life is finally where she wants it to be after a series of life changes and pressures from her parents to leave the area . This next retreat is a crocheting retreat for a change and has been scheduled at the same time of a new age retreat at the same conference center. When one of the retreat guest of the new age retreat is murdered, Casey wants to save the reputation of the beloved resort as well as find out the real suspect. Along the way Casey has funny encounters and as always the author has me laughing out loud at Casey juggling all her responsibilities and interacting with the vibrant charcters of the local community. This is a joyful fun series that I adore . To the author please continued this series as your fans just adore Casey and this series. Very well done to the author ! I highly recommend this next in series for your reading enjoyment.
Happy to see this cozy series back.
It's an enjoyable and entertaining read, with a fleshed out cast of characters I was happy to meet again, and a solid mystery that kept me guessing.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I continue to enjoy this cozy mystery series even though after seven books, I'm beginning to think that a real Vista del Mar resort might be bankrupt from all the murders that have taken place there. (Lethal word of mouth, don't you know-- and imagine the Yelp reviews.) The enjoyment arises from a wonderful California coast setting, a fun cast of characters, and a succession of intriguing mysteries to solve.
There's quite a bit of fun to be found while Casey tries to solve another murder. Where does one of her retreat members keep sneaking off to? Is learning to crochet really that easy? Will resort manager Kevin St. John get a chance to enforce his No Pets on the Premises rule? And how about that mindfulness retreat he put together? (Three raisins?!?) Other things that made me smile were the attempts Casey makes in order to keep her burgeoning romance a secret in her small town, and the fact that it seems as though everyone beats a path to the Blue Door Restaurant after hours to talk to her. How on earth does she manage to get her baking done?
And guess what? While I was having so much fun with the characters and the various situations, I found myself led astray by some very good misdirection in the mystery. All in all, Knot on Your Life is light and fun and a pleasure to read. More, please!
This cozy mystery is well written and the characters are unique and likeable.
In this instalment, what was supposed to be an easy to pull yarn retreat, becomes more than expected.
A murder to solve, a dog to hide, handling a double retreat, and making muffins will keep the main character on her toes
I don’t know how I managed to miss this series! I’m just glad I didn’t miss this book! Knot on Your Life is fun, captivating and an ultimate cozy. The plot is well-developed. The characters are fleshed out well. The dialogue is delightful and the mystery will keep you guessing.
Casey continues to host yarn retreats at the resort across from the home she inherited from a relative. In this installment she finds herself hosting a group of women all acquainted with one another. A Silicon Valley entrepreneurial group on a mindfulness treat also booked the resort. The entrepreneurs are a bit jealous of the extra perks the women receive and ask for knitting lessons which one man thinks would be more "mindful" than the activities the resort's owner planned for them. Casey discovers one of the women dying near the dangerous rocks. A former Chicago private investigator, Casey remains one step ahead of the police investigator. Although not a complex mystery, it was enjoyable. The only other book in the series I read was the first. I received an advance review copy in exchange for an honest review.
A fun and interesting read, but I find Crystal too much of a blabbermouth in this one. It was quite enjoyable and intriguing. This is a delightful cozy read with great characters and an even greater storyline. Casey has a curious mind, she also has an issue with being seen in any public display with her boyfriend Dane. She needs to grow up because she doesn’t seem to have any problem hugging Sammy her ex. This has been an enjoyable fun and intriguing cozy.
A clever twist of the classic “remote county-house murder mystery” featuring part-time dessert maker and retreat host Casey Feldstein and her cat Julius.
Casey runs a guesthouse in Cadbury by the Sea, California but used to work for a private investigator. This comes in very handy when there is death at the Yarn Retreat she has arranged at Vista Del Mar, a local hotel and conference centre on the coast. The special attraction? It is so remote that there is no cell service, Wi-Fi or even a TV to distract the guests.
That weekend there are two other groups of guests - some friendly birdwatchers who regularly visited the resort, and a small group of impatient business people. Before long the entrepreneurs are asking Casey to provide goodie bags and yarn training. Shame that she is the one who discovers on of them dead on the rocks.
The investigation quickly turns to her own group of crochet experts and their connection to the entrepreneurs they work with, who don’t seem to recognise them. But one of them does – and they have an argument to settle.
The community of Cadbury and their personal relationships mesh into a tightly woven murder story, told from Casey’s point of view.
This is the 7th installment in the Yarn Retreat mystery series. I have read some in this series but not all and I was able to follow along and enjoy so this can be a stand-alone read. Casey Feldstein is hosting a retreat in the scenic Vista Del Mar up the California coast and the knitters want to learn crochet and the activities are all planned so Casey is thinking this is going to be a bit of a vacation. Well when they are checking in there is a group of techies from Silicon Valley for a “mindfulness retreat” and some bird watchers and there appears many know each other. When Casey is walking along the beach she finds one of the other conference members dying on the beach. What appears to be an accident is not so clear in Casey’s mind. The police of course tell her to stay out of it but Casey pieces together connections and clues that sorts the whole murder out. Very enjoyable cozy and nicely paced read.
I love this series and this is a great addition. All the great characters make this book. As a crocheter who wants to learn to knit I related well to this latest group. The mystery is full of surprises. Casey seems to get herself into some of the most unusual situations and it's fun to see how she deals with it all. This book is perfect for cozy mystery fans.
I haven't read any other books in the series, but this works as a standalone. Having said that, I found it hard to get into initially & that may have been easier if I had been aware it was part of a series, but I persisted & finally got to the story.
Overall, a great cosy mystery without the romance/sex that so often dominates this type of story ... once I'd got into the story, the characters were quite interesting &there were enough little twists & turns to keep me satisfied without it tying itself into knots trying to be clever.
Disclosure: I received an advance reader copy of this book free via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Knitting and a murder mystery is always a good combination for me! I enjoyed this book by new to me author Betty Hechtman. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
I had previously read the first couple books in the series and enjoyed them but then lost track of the series until now. The story still completely made sense even with not reading a lot of the books. Casey continues to be an enjoyable character, with excellent secondary characters and a great sense of the "cozy" setting. The mystery was well written with wnigh red herrings to keep me guessing. The overall writing style flowed nicely and was fun to read. I'll have to go back now and read all the previous books in the series that I haven't read yet!
I haven't read any of the previous books in this series but I had no trouble reading this as a standalone. The characters are well developed and the mystery was intriguing. I enjoyed the fact that there's only a touch of romance in the book. I'll be on the lookout for more in this series.
Casey, who bakes for local restaurants in addition to being a crafter, has organized a crocheting retreat on the California coast, but the calm is disrupted when a participant in a nearby mindfulness retreat is murdered. Casey wants to help the local police, but they warn her to stay out of it. I enjoyed reading a cozy mystery by someone who is obviously familiar with yarn crafts; both a knitting pattern and a recipe are provided at the end. Even though this is part of a series, I had no problem reading it as a stand-alone. Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for this ARC.
Knot on Your Life by Betty Hechtman (Yarn Retreat Mystery #7) 3.5 stars
This is the next book in the Yarn Retreat Mystery after last years "Inherit the Wool". This book finds Casey organization a private retreat for a group of women who are experienced knitters but want to try crochet. As she is arranging her retreat at the quaint resort of Vista Del Mar, two other groups are checking in. A group of birdwatchers and a group of Silicon Valley types going on a retreat for mindfulness. In turns out that the tech people and Casey's group are acquainted through work.
On a break from her retreat business, Casey is going to the beach to knit a few rows when she finds the body of one the tech group. What follows is a mild, but interesting mystery with several suspects. The identity of the real murderer was at the end and felt abrupt to me. I enjoyed the dialogues between familiar characters and the introduction of a new character to the series.
Thank you Netgalley and Beyond the Page Publishers for this ARC.
Kaci Feldstein is hosting a yarn retreat for a group of knitters who want to learn how to crochet. When a member of another group attending a mindfulness retreat dies, Casey isn’t so sure it was an accident. As the weekend progresses Casey finds that the two groups actually know each other, making for lots of suspects. now it’s a race against the clock to find the ordered before Casey and her suspicions are silenced forever.
A new to me series from an author I have read before. Great setting and well developed characters. A recipe and a yarn project are included at the end. I will definitely be back for more.
An engaging cozy mystery. A clever page turner. Kept me guessing until the end. Two diverse groups of retreat participants provide suspects and antics. A smidgeon of romance. A pleasant and enjoyable series. I am glad I discovered this book listed under crafts and hobbies books to request instead of where I would have thought it would be in mysteries.
Changes are afoot! The cat’s out of the bag and the dog is in the guesthouse. It’s a yarn retreat where everyone knows each other and they’re all hiding something. This cozy was a super fun and easy read and promises interesting developments to come.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.
