This book was delightful! From the beginning I was rooting for Amelia and Peter. Beautiful love story with a happy ending.
Thank you to Shadow Mountain for the ARC.
New to me author who brings romance, fun and sweetness to the table with this enchanting story. Characters, setting and plot all on point. This won't be the last book of Megan that you will catch me reading.
This was a very cute enemies to lovers historical romance! I usually prefer my HR books to have some steam, but I don't mind reading these clean ones either as the romance always makes me happy! I loved the author's writing as well and how Amelia and Peter's relationship progressed from quarreling acquaintances to friends and then something more! WOuld definitely recommend this one!
I really loved this book! The plot is refreshing and different from other books I have read in this genre. The main characters are engaging and easy to root for. I also love the slow burn romance. This is the author's debut book. I look forward to reading many more of her efforts. I would recommend this book a thousand times over.
Let me just say I am a sucker for this cover. Sometimes you worry that the story won’t match to cover. This book lived up to the expectation. I really enjoyed this book. It was my first time reading one of Megan’s book. I hope to see more from her!
I should not have taken so long to read this, I absolutely loved it!
Peter is such a swoony leading man. Amelia is such a fun woman when she opens up.
Both Peter and Amelia have been invited with others to Lakeshire Park- family home of Peter's friend, Ronald for a small house party.
Both have sisters that met Ronald during the season in London previously. Both are going for a match between the two.
I love the reasons for Amelia wanting to see her sister married.... They do not deserve the horribleness of their stepfather. What an irritating man!
I think Peter was very witty and I loved his interactions with Amelia from their very first funny meeting to much more at the end of the party. Peter's sister, Georgiana however, is a little manipulative girl who was just plain frustrating.
I finished this book in 2 days. It's very sweet and fun.
I loved this book. You need to read it. The end.
Seriously, I think this is my new fave #regencyromance I just loved Amelia and Peter and everything about this book. It was a fairytale. It was Downton. It was the romance and wit of Jane Austen, without the need to decipher sentences. I could not put it down and I stayed up until 1:30 this morning because I needed to finish it. Loved this book so much!!!
I recommend this one for when you want a cozy, feel good, story. Clean romance and a strong female protagonist. Definitely check it out!
From the desk of Katie Patchell:
There: on the horizon stands elegant, grand Lakeshire Park. It is a prize for women seeking church bells and thrown rice…and of course, a large income. If you too choose to step over its threshold, you’ll find yourself facing scheming debutantes, protective older brothers, and one very determined woman trying to navigate through it all. Beyond its doors lies a world where wealth matters, an ill-timed kiss can ruin one’s future, and where “the course of true love never did run smooth” could be nailed to the wall as a warning and as a challenge to eager young lovers…and equally to you, Lakeshire Park’s future reader.
Enter Amelia, our “one very determined woman.” She has good reason to be so. Her beloved father’s death, her mother’s remarriage to a man who despises Amelia and her sister, Clara, and recently, her mother’s passing, has all made her resilient and cautious about loving again. After her cruel stepfather’s flat refusal to be connected to her and her sister anymore, Amelia searches for a means to save them both from destitution. Her good fortune is that she is not alone to face the world–Clara is her closest friend, and Amelia would do anything for her. This “anything” includes accepting an invitation to a house party hosted by none other than the man who Clara had a tendresse for in the previous Season. There’s only one problem: another woman seeks his attention, and she also has an older sibling who is fully devoted to her happiness. With time running out, what’s a woman to do? The answer is obvious: to make a deal with the devil – Amelia’s counterpart, Peter Wood, the stubborn, cunning man who from the very first moment of meeting has tried to ruin all her plans.
Unfortunately, Amelia’s plot to get him out of the way quickly unravels. His quick smile, sparkling eyes, and ready wit make her respond in kind. Rivalry and war turn to a mock battle for one-upmanship, and before Amelia knows it, her heart is involved. With her stepfather’s threats weighing on her mind and Peter’s sister’s devious plans against Clara, Amelia must make her most difficult choice yet: to choose her sister’s future happiness over her own.
Lakeshire Park was simply fun from beginning to end. Humor, drama, adventure, sibling friendship (and betrayal), and romance…this novel has it all. What I especially loved was the relationship between the leads. Peter, our hero, and Amelia, our heroine, were each loyal, competitive, and impulsive. They were willing to do anything — even if it meant running out into a storm or slinging mud at each other — because of their love for their family and their joie de vivre. What makes this joy even more profound to see is that, as with beautiful sunlight after a storm, the light exists after — maybe even because of — the darkness. Each character has a backstory of missed opportunities, pain, and regrets. What was interesting as a reader was to see that Amelia’s hurts cause her to shy away from love, while Peter’s reaction is to hold tight to love when he finds it. Their growth throughout the book and the excellent writing style hooked me, making me feel as if I was really experiencing the story along with the characters. The only thing that jarred my wonderful experience with Lakeshire Park was Amelia’s stepfather. He was a villain who hated Amelia and Clara so passionately, that he never said a paragraph without including his wish that they had never been born, should vanish from his life, etc. Unfortunately, I can’t say he was unrealistically poisonous; I don’t doubt there are hate-filled people in the world. I do doubt, however, that someone could wholeheartedly be this level of evil, and still somehow have become a decently respected figure, trusted to take care of two young women.
What made me truly love Lakeshire Park, though, was its story arc. It begins as a tale of loyalty, matchmaking, and the standard “I hate this man I just met” trope. As the pages turn, the plot changes. Relationships sour, friendships deepen, and loyalties (even to past memories) are shaken. Clean from beginning to end, this was a slow-burn romance that isn’t predictable. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I do have to say: at the 49% mark, there’s a huge plot twist I didn’t see coming! So stay sharp.
With the lightness of Jane Austen and the charm of Georgette Heyer, Lakeshire Park still stands as an original in its own right. In a time filled with global uncertainty and fear, I highly recommend Megan Walker’s latest novel for its ability to spread light, love, and laughter…just as its own heroine and hero do.
Wow, this was such a great read. What an awesome storyline. This book grabs you at page one and doesn't let you go. I really like her writing style. This is an author I will definitely continue to follow. I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed. Keep them coming Ms. Walker. Definitely an author to read. I look forward to reading more from this author.
What a delightful book this was! The gradual development of the relationship was realistic and beautiful. Then there was the surprising twist at the end - shocking and unexpected - and yet it was very sweet how it all worked out in the end. It is amazing how much difference communication makes, and yet the lack thereof makes for a very common plot angle! I loved how imperfect everybody was, from the beginning to the end, and yet how important it was to give people room to improve and prove themselves, and how frequently they would rise to meet expectations. It was a very lovely story! I'm very grateful I have my own (ARC) copy because I will be reading this again and again and sharing it with others too - I already have!
Delightful Regency
Two people who each want the best for their sister (and those sisters are vying for the same man)! It was fun to see how this story unfolded! This was a unique regency read about finding love in unexpected places. This was a sweet and clean romance, I'd rate it PG for kissing.
An excellent story! I loved the banter between Amelia and Peter. I love a good story of independence made better by the realization that love makes a person stronger. Super fun story telling.

What a charming story! I absolutely LOVED it to bits. Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker is a delicious read that will captivate you from the start - you won't be able to stop reading! I enjoyed every second I spent with this lovely book and my huge cuppa. It all made for quite an afternoon of reading and tea - my two favorite hobbies.
This is the story of Amelia and Peter. Amelia is looking to secure her sister, Clara, a good future. She wants the very best for Clara. So, when she gets invited to a party at Lakeshire Park, she jumps at the chance - she just knows that Sir Ronald would be the perfect match for her sister. Except, Amelia isn't the only one who has their eye on Sir Ronald. Turns out that Peter is also looking for a match for his sister and he thinks that Sir Ronald fits the bill perfectly. Uh oh, looks like Amelia and Peter are in for quite the competition. And, that is all I will write about this wonderful story.
Lakeshire Park is a fun, engaging, and unputdownable story that you will fall in deep with. The characters are such a treat to get to know. Walker has written a delightful read that you will want to read again and again. I would happily recommend Lakeshire Park to anyone and everyone looking for their next great read!
This was a sweet clean regency read. I liked the nods to pride and prejudice. The Heroine was cute and this was just sweet. The book was written in first person which is not my favorite but I dealt with that fine.
What a delightful read!
I felt drawn in immediately by Amelia and her predicament. I loved her determination and focus. I loved the banter between Amelia and Peter as their romance blossomed. This was definitely not a love at first sight situation! Loved that even though I could tell what was coming at times I thoroughly enjoyed the process of getting there. I laughed out loud quite a few times, which is always fun.
I would love to read more from this author.
Extremely likeable characters, genuinely charming hero and banter and loved the first person pov here. Does well to reiterate the powerlessness women experienced in fashioning their own destinies in the regency period. I did find the liberties and some of the time spent in Peter and Amelia's unofficial courtship to read more modern than we see and there were some anachronisms but easily overlooked due to the joy of the story. I look forward to reading more by this author

Amelia Moore and her sister Clara aren't in the best situation. Their mother has died and left them with their stepfather who wants nothing more than to be rid of them. Their last hope of being saved is for Clara to marry Sir Ronald. They get invited to a house party at Sir Ronald's where Amelia hopes he will want to marry Clara. When they arrive there appears to be some competition for Sir Ronald's hand. Peter Wood also wants his sister to wed Sir Ronald and so begins a sort of game where Peter and Amelia try to pit their sisters against each other vying for his affections. Naturally, as the games begin Peter and Amelia begin to fall for each other.
The wit between the two main characters was well done. I enjoyed the twists and turns and fun and games.
Overall I give it a 4/5 stars
*Thanks to Netgalley and Shadow Mountain for allowing me access to an ARC of this book.
I was very intrigued when I got invited to read and review this book. However, when I went into the book I got very frustrated with it. First of all Lord Gray just throws over his stepchildren from the love of his life. I understand that they are reminders of his wife's first husband but Clara and Amelia are not bad people. They are basically told that they need to find husbands at a house party they are invited to. Clara has a prospect there but not Amelia until she runs into Peter Wood on the way to the party.
Peter is immediately smitten with her but she straight up hates him at first. He bargains away her afternoons so that he will stop Clara's attempts to spend time with Sir Ronald. Oh yeah, his sister wants Sir Ronald too and throws a fit when Clara blocks her attempts to get him to herself. Peter and Amelia spend a lot of time together unchaperoned but you know she's not considered ruined but Georgiana kisses Sir Ronald in the ballroom and they automatically have to marry. I get that that it wasn't acceptable behavior for the time but come on.
Everything works out alright in the end but damn I wish the author had done some research before she wrote. However, if you ignore all my complaints it's actually a good read.
Rating: 3½ stars
I absolutely adored this novel by Megan Walker. As with most novels of this genre, you can guess what the ending might be (or what we hope it will be) from the outset, but getting to the end of this story was so much fun. The witty banter between Amelia and Peter is one of my favorite things. That alone would have kept me reading until the very end.
