This was my introduction to Megan Walker and it was delightful. Her characters were well developed; enough that I’m really hoping this is a series, as there are several secondary characters whose stories I’d like to follow. And I adored Peter and Amelia. Sometimes, when there are secrets keeping people apart, I rail at the characters in my head and will them to just- let them out already. In this case, it made sense for her to keep her secrets since they were also her sister’s.

Amelia Moore has one chance to achieve security for her younger sister Clara. They must go to Lakeshire Park and secure the matrimonial attention of the rich Sir Ronald before the death of their parsimonious stepfather leaves them penniless. Unfortunately, Amelia soon discovers that Peter Wood, another guest is putting forward his own sister as a candidate for Sir Ronald's hand.

Dismayed by Peter Wood's flirtatious effrontery, Amelia does her best to match wits with him. But when he attempts to distract her by claiming every afternoon for horse rides and rambles round the estate, she can't tell what kind of game he is playing. Is it possible that she could be falling for someone who is determined to ruin the happiness of her little sister?

This story had an interesting premise, the hero and heroine both vying for matrimonial prospects for their little sister. Their "meet-cute" in a milliner's shop, both trying to seize the last pair of ladies' gloves for their sister's benefit, was the perfect introduction. In Amelia's case, Clara's marriage is a financial necessity, whereas with Peter, he just wants to see his little sister happy.

Throughout the tale, Amelia's grace amidst trials impresses Peter, and his easy confidence makes her wish desperately that they could have met under different circumstances. The use of parlor games to circumvent some of the more proper manners of the era and bring the protagonists closer together adds some spice to the narrative. Amelia's backstory about her parents' own relationship brought an added dimension and tied in well with the climactic ending. This Regency romance from publisher Shadow Mountain's Proper Romance collection will keep you charmed and entertained.

I started reading this book several weeks ago, but then I had to put it aside because I had other books that needed to be read first. When I finally was able to come back to it, I thought I might have to start over from the beginning so I could remember what was happening. Thankfully, it only took me about a chapter before I remembered what happened. This was a fun, but heartbreaking story. (Is that even possible?) I enjoyed the antics that Amelia and Peter would get in to each afternoon, but it was heartbreaking watching Amelia try and navigate a very tricky situation with her step-father's edict.

The relationship between the two main characters was entertaining at first and then became so comfortable. It was fun watching it develop. I was a little surprised at how Peter's sister was handled near the end. Not what I was expecting at all, but that wasn't a bad thing. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more from this author.

First sentence: My fingers held the last chord on the pianoforte a beat longer than necessary.

Premise/plot: Imagine this scenario: You must find a husband within two weeks. Ready. Set. Go. Fortunately, you’re living in a Regency Romance and have just been invited to a house party with a few eligible men. There will be competition, you’re not the only woman there looking to marry. Are you up to the challenge?

Amelia (19) and her younger sister, Clara, have been invited to a house party. Their stepfather is dying. Their inheritance is nonexistent. It would be one thing if it was a matter of it being entailed, but their stepfather and his family despise them. This party is their best hope—only hope—to secure a future.

Who will they meet? Will either sister fall in love?

Amelia has placed her hope in her sister, Clara, finding a match. She’ll do just about anything—anything still respectable—to help her sister stay in the game. Even if it means agreeing to spend time with Peter Wood.

Peter Wood finds Amelia delightful. But is she spending time with him for the right reasons? Can he get Amelia to actually fall in love with him in just a week or two?

My thoughts: I would give it a hundred stars if I could. I just loved, loved, loved it. I am slightly biased. I adore Regency romances, historical fiction, clean romances. This one was absolutely delightful. I would not change even one thing about it.

This is such a charming and enjoyable regency romance story! The meet-cute was absolutely unforgettable. These characters are dynamic and realistic. I felt like I was in the story with them, even to the point of talking to my book wishing the characters could hear me. I especially appreciated the pacing of the story and the fun banter between the characters! From start to finish all the scenes in the story played out like a movie in my head. I am completely smitten by this book!

If you are a fan of Regency Romance, then you won’t want to miss out on this delightful story! Megan Walker is defiantly an author you will want to add to your must read list! Be sure to snag a copy of this story for your own reading enjoyment.

I picked up Lakeshire Park this weekend and could not put it down! What a sweet read from @authormeganwalker.. Amelia was witty, spunky and loving and Peter just made me laugh at parts! Their dialogue and banter was so fun to read. I would definitely rank this book in the top five of my favorites from the Proper Romance series.

Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker is an exquisite story. I was pulled in from word one and did not want to put this book down. The relationship between Amelia and Peter is simply breathtaking. The pacing of their relationship is perfect. From early squabbles to burgeoning feelings of mutual love and respect, it is clear there is ample chemistry between these two unique and relatable characters. And the tension between the two is sublime. The blend of passion + reserve throughout the story is perfect! Lakeshire Park, in my humble estimation, is one excellently written Regency Romance.

Amelia takes the world upon her shoulders. She is a problem solver constantly searching for the best path to take in order to properly care for her sister, Clara. Amelia’s goal is that Clara should not be burdened by sadness, bad news, or pain. In order for Amelia to achieve this, she has to become a self-sacrificer. While it is incredibly noble and honorable to be this self-sacrificing for a sibling’s sake, it is also completely impossible to take on the whole world. Eventually, things will start to become too much for one person to handle. I was often exhausted for Amelia! As I was reading this story, Proverbs 4:9-10 came to mind: “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!” Amelia has been forced to be alone nearly all her life. When Peter comes along she is unsure of how to unburden herself. How does one trust someone when she’s been relegated to a corner so often in her life? I admit I yelled at my copy of this book a time or two, desperately imploring Amelia to divulge her truths to Peter — “Lay your soul bare, girl! You need help.” (I love it when a book is interactive. LOL!) In all seriousness though, Amelia’s inability to unburden herself made me consider myself. I totally get Amelia. There is something about being the lonely, independent, first-born, self-sacrificing sibling. We can only do this self-sacrificing job for so long before we burn out, and when we burn out we burn out badly. Peter comes into Amelia’s life exactly when she needs him. It just takes her a minute to figure this out — and, man, was the journey well worth it! I am leaving Lakeshire Park one truly satisfied reader.

If you are a fan of Regency Romances, Lakeshire Park is the book for you. If you are a fan of well-written, highly engaging, thought-provoking Romances, Lakeshire Park is definitely the book for you. Lakeshire Park is a glorious read that I highly, highly recommend!

this was cute. i really liked the meet cute and the hero and heroine were adorable at times. however, i had a few slight issues with some things not really fitting with the time period (the games they played, they spent sooo much time together, even outdoors, without a chaperone but a kiss in front of everyone meant ruination?), i mean i am no expert at all and i'm not one to care for legit historical accuracy in romance books, but i still want it to *feel* like a historical and those things took me out of the book a couple times. also, i was irrationally bothered by the use of 'math' instead of 'maths'.
i also personally wasn't a fan of the catty girl hate between clara and georgiana, though i know the whole 'vying for the same man' was a big part of the plot, i think it could have been handled in a non-petty way. i don't know, i think i got kind of used to not seeing that in books these days, to be honest. and ronald was a bit of an ass for dragging it out the way he did, especially if he knew how he felt from the get go.
i think it could have benefited from being third person or dual POV, but that's probably just my preference. anyway, sounds like i hated it, definitely didn't. just a few things bugged me. but overall i liked it, it was super cute, light and sweet.

All Amelia Moore wants and needs to do is find a suitable match for her younger sister Clara so she'll be taken care of and provided for. Their mother died two years ago and their stepfather has reluctantly provided the necessities since then only because of his promise to their dying mother. His health is failing and he's made sure Amelia knows that his promise to care for them dies with him. When an invitation arrives from Sir Ronald to attend a house party at Lakeshire Park arrives, Amelia knows this is their last chance for Clara to capture his attention and form an attachment. There's only one problem, Mr. Peter Wood wants the same thing for his sister Miss Georgiana.

I loved this book and can't believe it's a debut novel. I knew Amelia and Peter would end up together after their run-in in the dress shop over a pair of gloves, but I didn't know how Peter would win Amelia over considering their sisters were vying for the attention of the same man. I loved how the author got them together. House party settings are so much fun because of the secondary characters and their interactions. I find them more enjoyable than London parties and balls because they're set in the country and have many activities in which the characters of the story can be placed.

I liked both Amelia and Peter. They wanted the best for their younger sisters, and Amelia learned to trust her heart, and I was thrilled that both sisters find their happily ever after. I liked several of the secondary characters and hope the author gives a couple of them their own stories. I look forward to reading more from Megan Walker.

This was an enchanting story that sparkled. The character development was perfect— depth without feeling too heavy. And the chemistry between Peter and Amelia was written wonderfully. Peter was the perfect romantic. I loved how he relentlessly pursued Amelia’s heart. The only thing that makes me sad is that this author doesn’t have more full length novels out for me to read!

This author can write a story that pulls the reader into the book with descriptive details. I was fully immersed. The romance was full, sweeping and swoony! I felt the author was able to create characters that were complete & relatable. Plus, having layers to themselves. As well as characters you could equally loathe. Megan Walker did well in showing the hard situation & little options women of the time had. There were well written twists and surprises that kept the story interesting. The interactions between the h & H were witty & entertaining. Eventhough this trope might have been used before I thought the telling & writing were original. The book had a secondary side romance story and I was hoping for both of them. However, the secondary romance didn't detract from the story. It did help add to the book & helped move the story line along. I liked all the secondary characters. Of course disliking all the disagreeable ones as intended.
The story did have some slight "modernisms" interactions or scenes & speech. Not terribly so but perhaps more than a Jane Austen or Georgeatte Heyer. I think an epilogue would've been nice. I wondered about Peter's sister future. For me the story was a solid 4-4.5 stars because of that. I realize that is simply reader preference. I rounded up to a 5 because the author can craft a story well, had a good flow, editing, dialogue, and characters. I would read another Megan Walker book.

It has been quite some time since I have read a Regency romance, but this new-to-me author definitely made this one thoroughly enjoyable. Set in Brighton England, Amelia Moore and her young sister, Clara, both of marriageable age, are about to be booted from their stepfather's home as he lay dying. He never cared for the girls but only their mother. When Clara is invited to a two week house party at Sir Ronald's Lakeshire Park estate, Amelia knows that it is time to wrap up a proposal for Clara. But little does she suspect that mayhem will burst forth and that two women will be competing for the love of Sir Ronald and that her heart might be swept away by one of the guests as well.

Each of the 4 main characters in this story were well written: Amelia - independent and strong; Clara - sweet and loving; Peter - warmhearted and caring (a true hero); and Georgiana- determined and spiteful. The secondary characters who were guests as well as Sir Ronald's mother added to the story as well.

A delightful, quick, clean, easy to read Regency romance.

Thank you to Shadow Mountain for providing this ARC via NetGalley, and to Laurel Ann Nattress of Austenprose for inviting me to be apart of this blog tour for Lakeshire Park! All opinions are my own.

Lakeshire Park is exactly what I needed at the moment, providing a sweet escape from all the horrors of the modern world and a welcome breath of fresh air after a few less compelling reads. It’s a sweet romance with an Austenesque feel, with likable characters with compelling motivations, and a beautiful romance that grows from an unlikely place.

The situation Amelia and her sister Clara find themselves in is a familiar one to experienced readers of Regency romance, but it doesn’t make it any less interesting to follow as they navigate their situation. I could relate to Amelia’s desire to see Clara well-situated with all her desires taken care of.

I also liked the development of her relationship with Peter, from that initial meet-awkward. I enjoyed seeing them banter with one another, and appreciated that, even when they were at odds, it still felt like it realistically grew into something more, with all the angst and uncertainty about their opposing purposes that went with it.

I did feel this story would have been a bit richer with Peter’s point of view as well. I liked his character from Amelia’s perspective, and would have enjoyed getting some insight into his thoughts at different points.

This is such a lovely book, and I deeply enjoyed reading it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet Regency read.

Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker, 320 pages. Shadow Mountain Publishing, 2020. $16.
Language: PG (1 swear, 0 “f”); Mature Content: PG; Violence: PG
BUYING ADVISORY: HS - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
With a dying stepfather unwavering in his determination to leave Amelia and her sister, Clara, destitute, Amelia knows that this invitation to visit Sir Robert is their best chance to make a match. Amelia determinedly supports Clara in her desires to win over Sir Robert, even when it means spending time with an insufferable man, Peter. But is two weeks enough time to secure a marriage?
Walker uses foreshadowing well enough to let the readers know what is coming while still withholding how and with whom it will happen. I was dreading the climax with every page I flipped, only to be proven wrong in some of my assumptions and pleased by a much more satisfying scene than I imagined. The messages of trust, open communication, and love are well articulated as Amelia expresses her own thoughts and allows herself to change.

*I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publishers via NetGalley. My review and opinions about the story are entirely my own.*

As always, I am providing no summation of the plot. I leave that to the publishers and those they pay for that.

This was a fun romance set in the regency but with modernized language. It was perfect medicine for this quarantine day. The characters were engaging, interesting, and joyful. I didn’t think I would be drawn into the plot as quickly as I was, but several hours and a few laughs and gasps later, it looks like I was wrong.

So enjoyable! I could totally see this as a movie! I enjoying entering the regency era and seeing typical scenes play. From what I can tell, the author used as much historical information as possible to write this. I found the inclusion of the common game 'blind man's bluff' so fun and very enlightening of each of the characters.

Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker is a delightful read!

A beautifully written Regency Proper Romance that completely swept me off my feet. This lovely exquisite detailed book brings the theme family to the forefront. Along with a delightful romance that had me swiftly turning the pages.

Set in 1820 England, Amelia and Clara Moore live with their dying stepfather, after their mother has passed away. With their impending stepfather death, one them needs to secure a mariage post hast. Facing complete destitution because neither of them will be able to inherit. Excepting an invitation to stay with a wealthy family’s, the Demsworth family, who are hosting a house party. Amelia knows this maybe the only chance to secure her sister’s future, and a home for both of them.

But nothing seems to go as planned upon arrival they realizes that Clara has competition for the gentleman she has heart set on, Sir Ronald Demsworth.

Miss Georgiana Wood the sister of Peter Wood. Peter has just come into his inheritance, and is equally wanting to aid his sister in acquiring her hearts desire, That being Ronald Demsworth.

The seamless narration is seen through our heroine Amelia eyes. Being the oldest, Amelia is protective and completely loyal to her sister, Clara.

Peter and Amelia both are strategically help their sisters in the matchmaking. This puts them constantly in each other’s company.

The chemistry between Amelia and Peter was captivating and engaging, and their lively banter adds to enjoyable storyline. I loved reading every minute of this budding romance, and the characters were believable and enduring. The writing flows perfectly.

This heartwarming, proper romance is definitely one you won’t forget.🌸

Stunning. Beautiful. Romantic. Instant favorite.

I finished moments ago, and I already want to re-read it. This is one of my favorite reads ever. I struggled to want to do anything else outside of living vicariously at Lakeshire Park.

Within sentences, I was pulled in to Amelia's story. Megan Walker is simply amazing. Am I gushing enough? If you like regency or romance, I highly recommend it. I have zero complaints.

Amelia and Clara are sisters and almost desperate. They leave Brighton for a small house party and Amelia pins all her hopes on her sister making a match with Sir Ronald and saving both from destitution. Amelia is confronted with more opposition than she would wish for when she encounters Peter and his sister, who is a rival for Sir Ronald's affections. This enemies-to-lovers regency is entertaining and yields everything I love about a house party: picnics, horseback riding, parlor games, and a dreamy, dimpled man.

Thank you, #shadowmountainpub and #netgalley for the advanced copy! All thoughts in this review are my own.
