Little Secrets definitely kept me on my toes the whole time. Marin, the main character's son gets kidnapped by a Santa while they are at the market and for 16 months, she blames herself. She finds out her husband, Derek, is having an affair with a younger woman after hiring a PI to find her son. Marin wants to confront Kenzie Li, the woman Derek is seeing behind her back for the last six months, but instead, she does something even crazier with the help of her best friend, Sal!

This book was impossible to put down. I constantly wondered if she would ever find her son or not and I kept trying to guess who took him. I was never correct but the book kept me intrigued and I still kept guessing. I also couldn't help but wonder more about Kenzie and her life, so it was great that we got to see her side of the story and her background as well. The ending was amazing and I would have never guessed that is how it would end. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone! Definitely 5/5!

Ok, so I went into this one thinking it was going to be a crazy and twisty domestic psychological thriller. It honestly wasn't that for me BUT I still did enjoy it. I was going to rate this one 3 stars, but the ending of the book definitely had an impact on me emotionally. As a mother myself to two young children, I wholeheartedly felt for Marin and almost was brought to tears. So that made my rating go up one star, so kudos to the author for bringing that emotional punch to the storyline. I felt like this book was more of a darker drama filled book than a thriller. I would recommend this one to the thriller fans who don't like anything too dark.

Marin’s life is shattered in a matter of minutes, when she lets go of her young son’s hand to answer a phone in a busy market. In those few short minutes, Sabastian is taken. With minimal clues and no leads, the case goes cold. Now almost a year later, Marin, still desperate to find her son, has a private investigator searching for any prospects. What she finds further destroys Marin’s world- her husband is having an affair. Desperation leads people to ignore their best judgement and make choices they may later regret. For Marin, taking extreme measures may be the only option she feels she has. But these decisions may have more sinister consequences than she anticipated.

What a premise! This book starts strong and I was hooked early on. As the story unfolds, there were many pieces to the puzzle that started to come together and I really enjoyed the build toward the climax. I thought the twists were rather predictable, but I enjoyed the story nonetheless. It was a quick read and very enjoyable for those that want a quick domestic mystery.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jennifer Hillier, and Minotaur Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. Jennifer Hillier did it again. This book had me sucked in right at the beginning. I'm usually hesitant to read anything about a missing child or the murder of a child because I have small children. It just makes me anxious to think about. Little Secrets opens with 4-year-old Sebastian getting kidnapped while Christmas shopping with his mom, Marin. I loved her character, her flaws and all. She was self-destructive and unpredictable but she would do anything for her son and to hold her family together- ANYTHING. The story is told from the view of her character and the character of her husband's mistress, Kenzie Li. Kenzie Li is everything Marin is not: she's a poor grad student, tall and thin, pink hair, and a bubbly personality. Marin decides Kenzie must have an accident in order to keep her marriage together. I wanted to hate Kenzie but her chapters just made me feel bad for her. I still kind of hate her but not as much as I probably should.

I can't say that there was anything about the book I didn't like other than it was a little predictable for me. I still loved it and didn't guess the end completely. I once again have to say this: I need to read more Jennifer Hillier books! I said that after Jar of Hearts too.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Minotaur books for this eARC.

Ohhhh I LOVED this book!! Little Secrets was so good and I was hooked right from the beginning. This book is full of twists and turns, heartbreak and secrets. I just loved how all the little secrets were revealed one by one and how everything played out in the end.

Marin is such realistic character with so much depth and I was completely captivated by what she was going through. Jennifer Hillier did a fantastic job in describing her heartbreak and pain.

I loved every page of this book and I just could not put it down. This book has been one of my favorites this year and I already added some of her older titles to my TBR!

A great secretive novel that grabs you from the 1st.few pages and doesn't let go.
A mother is in a crowded mall shopping with her 4 yr.old son.
She is intent on buying a special gift in a bookstore for an employee. She lets go of her son's hand for just one minute,to pay for the book and in the next minute,he is gone.

The next few minutes are frantic,he is finally spotted leaving the store with Santa Claus holding a big lolly pop and looking very contented.

After almost 2 yrs.of her son being missing, her husband's infidelity, her one night stand with her best friend and a frightening hit on a young lady, cancelled before it can be carried out?
Can this get any better? Well it does and better isn't the half of it.

Thank you so much to Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book and to Jennifer Hiller for writing such a thriller.

HOLY CRAP HOW DO I PUT THIS INTO WORDS?!?!

Little Secrets IS, BY FAR, one of the BEST books that I've read this year for sure, and maybe one of the best of all of the books that I've EVER read! So you seriously haven't stopped what you're doing yet to start reading this book?

One of my favorite things about this author, Jennifer Hillier, is that she is so unique in her writing! She doesn't write your common, run of the mill mystery! Her plot is unique, her characters are unique, and her twist is unique. Everything about her is UNIQUE! She's a one-in-a-million gem of an author to find!

This particular book will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning until the very end.
That made it one of the most unputdownable (I know, I make my own words up as I go!) books that I've read in a long time! I just had to find out what was going to happen next and didn't want to waste any time getting through the book. Although I do find myself sad that I'm finished now...it was THAT good!

Little Secrets is a roller coaster psychological thriller that any mystery fan should have already read, and if they haven't yet, should be bumping it up to the top of their TBR ASAP! If you haven't read this book yet, then YOU ARE MISSING OUT! Now I cannot wait for Jennifer Hillier's next new release, although I'm sad that it might be awhile since this one was just released! PHENOMENAL BOOK!

Lastly, I would like to thank Jennifer Hillier and her publishers, Minotaur Books, for providing me a free copy of Little Secrets via Netgalley, in return for my honest and unbiased review.

TW - Child loss, abduction
Marin has it all... A rich husband, a successful business, and a beautiful 4 year old son. But when her son goes missing, Marin's life feels like it's over. She becomes a hollow shell with not much to live for.
Then she finds out her husband is having an affair. Marin will stop at nothing to keep the last of her family together.
I loved this one! Honestly, from the first page I was gripped. Such an exciting yet, at times, heartbreaking story.
Plenty of twists and turns. That moment when you realise what is going on and the story all links up is a definite WOW moment.
Highly recommend.

RATING: 4 STARS
2020; Minotaur Books/St. Martin's Press

As the novel opened with the abduction of Sebastian, I felt for his parents Marin and Derek. How would they cope with such loss and would they find him dead or alive had me invested in the story. As the novel unravels I came to dislike Marin as I could not see why she was fighting for a marriage that she seemed to not want anyway. I tried to see it as a connection to her son, but it felt like it was more of a game of having him. It was a way for Marin to wake up in her life since her son has been missing, but it seemed to only make her more self destructive. Derek is cheating with a younger woman, and all I can do is sigh at his choice of Kenzie. Kenzie is a non descriptive insta "model" that could be on the Bachelor if she had a proper family to show on television. Yet, all of this worked to keep me flipping the pages. It was only after that I really delved into what I had read. As I was listening, I just wanted to know what would happen next. Not many suspense novels do that for me. I was on this train wreck willingly. I rated it a 4 as I don't see myself rereading this one, but can see myself recommending this. The ending is a bit predictable, and not my favourite but there is only so many ways this story could have gone. I am ready for another book by Hillier. I still have to read The Butcher, so stayed tuned for that one.

The story gripped me with the first chapter however I was bored thru the middle and confess I skipped reading some pages and was able to still follow along. I’m surprised the main character wasn’t able to figure out what was happening earlier as I did. I did enjoy the narrative told from the two women in each chapter. Will recommend but it just wasn’t for me.

I think I’m a little late to jump on this author’s bandwagon, but I might just start by driving it! Stayed up late last night to finish it. Worth it. The is every parents worst nightmare (missing child), my heart was in my throat throughout the entire book. I don’t know how many times I was saying No. I thought the author did a great job of showing how this set of parents each handled this horrible issue in their particular mindset and background. It’s easy to say “I would never do that” when not faced with this situation or resources. The characters are flawed, realistic and broken.

Marin and Derek are living the life....wealthy, successful, parents to adorable 4 year old Sebastian. Their life is totally turned upside down when ‘Bash’ is abducted days before Christmas. What transpires next shows what stress does to the individuals and the couple itself, and the lives of those close to them. And, how little secrets will destroy.

Thanks to Ms Hiller, Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

This books covers one of my worst fears, missing children. It hooked me from the very beginning, and alternates between the two female characters. Both are rather unlike-bale, if I am being honest. It didn’t take anything away from the book for me though. I love a book like this, there are twists and turns. It is dark and emotional, and you know something is off but you cant put your finger on it. This was definitely a solid read for me.

Bottom Line: Read it!!!

I'm a fan of Jennifer Hillier, and this books was very well-written and highly suspenseful. The biggest difficulty I had -- and it was a big one -- came near the end, and we learned what a monumental, stratospherically unlikely coincidence of acquaintanceships the entire structure was built on. That stopped me cold.

I liked the first chapter. Painted a crystal clear picture: harried Mom trying to get last minute Christmas shopping done, fussy 6 year-old tired of shopping, self centered Dad watching sports and whining for a taco, the horror of losing your child in a crowd. However, I sensed what was to come in the authors style of writing; telling us everything instead of showing us what's happening and letting us fill in the blanks.

I was right. This book is 90% descriptive prose, 10% dialogue. Every little thing each of the characters felt, knew, didn't know, etc was written out like a textbook on how to boil water. We ate told what the character is thinking while a conversation is (supposedly) going on, what they did in the past, what they plan to do in the future. and so on. Nothing was left to chance. The reader didn't have to imagine what's going on in the characters minds, it was all spelled out for us.

It was a good story idea, good plot, but the author took several side trips that didn't really move things along, just felt like emotional filler. I confess to reading the first and last line of paragraphs by the time I got halfway through. I didn't miss out on a thing. Never had to go back and re-read a passage to see what I'd missed.

And the ending. Hoo boy. I have never, ever wallowed through that many coincidences in a book before. And mostly unbelievable coincidences at that. Unless you assume the heroine is dumber than a box of rocks for not putting two and two together long before. The big finale was so sugar-coated I actually felt my teeth begin to ache. No. Just a big ol' no from me.
