Revolver Road is the third installment in Christi Daugherty's Harper McClain series, and while these books (technically) can be read as standalones, I do recommend they are read in order. The first two installments, A Beautiful Corpse and The Echo Killing, introduce readers to Harper, Luke, and the haunting murder of Harper's mother.
Harper, a crime reporter, investigates the disappearance of Xavier Rayne, a singer who is rapidly climbing some buzzy music charts. His girl friend and band mates explain that Xavier has a history of disappearing, but this time, he doesn't return.
I thought Revolver Road was a wonderful installment in this series. We are provided answers to some of our questions involving the murder of Harper's mother, and we are also given a new mystery to solve. The writing is strong, and there is quite a lot of underlying tension that continues to grow between the main characters. Overall, I recommend this one.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Yet another book I couldn't put down and finished in a day! Although this book could stand alone, I would recommend reading The Echo Killing and A Beautiful Corpse before tackling Revolver Road, because one of the main story lines begins in the earlier books. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know journalist Harper McLain, and I look forward to reading more about her.
One of my favorite series - Harper McLain by Christi Daugherty! While staying out on Tybee Island
Harper finds herself involved in the investigation of a murdered musician while still looking for answers
of her mother's murder years ago. Fast paced suspense, grabs you from the start! Thank you NetGalley
for the advanced copy.
The beginning takes some time to get into, it's rather slow. Once you're past that, it takes of more. A nice enough book, wouldn't probably read the others in the series though
A good but not great mystery. Decent plot, but a little uneven, and just didn't have the polish of higher quality mysteries. This shows promise, and I hope the author continues to write.
I really appreciate the ARC for review!!
A new to me series by a new to me author. I found the characters to be likable and believable and will look forward to reading more by Christi Daugherty.
I didn’t realize this book was part of a series, but it didn’t matter because it read as a stand-alone. Enjoyable and interesting plot and mystery. I liked the characters.
I was hooked on this book from Chapter 1. I loved the setting and I really enjoyed the characters. I'm going to go back to read the other books in this series. I found this mystery really well crafted and totally enjoyable.
My first in this series. The premise sounded great, but I struggled through this in the beginning. I think it’s because I didn’t find Harper very interesting. I read through some reviews of the first two books in the series and I felt I was just missing something.
I also found it unrealistic that the friends (and band mates) of this singer/musician would just open the house doors to her and divulge all the info they did. Even to the point of calling her and asking her to come back out because there were TV vans and reporters all over the street. She’s a crime reporter! There is zero reason for them to trust her. It was hard for me to pull it together after that.
Given the solid reviews of the first two books, I’m sure this latest installment will be well received by her fans. Unfortunately, for me this was just an average read.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
Another great book in the Harper McClain series! Harper is still trying to figure out who killed her mother many years ago and finally gets some answers. She is also trying to figure out who killed a famous singer that is in Savannah for rest and relaxation. There’s also a smidgen of romance thrown in because, well, love is what makes the world go round. As a native Georgian, I love how Daugherty always makes me feel as if I am in Savannah right with Harper, driving down Abercorn in her black Camero. I love this series and appreciate the advanced copy from NetGalley!
