Quick, easy, recipes for those who don't have a lot of time but are looking for something tasty. Great for public libraries, and possible for a YA collection or if you're highlighting an "adulting" collection.
Some good tips/tricks and easy recipes to add to the famil menu. Very little pictures which I find to be quite annoying.
At first the cauliflower strawberry smoothie startled me. But as I went on this book won me over on all levels. Lasagne soup, Avacado toast, Asian Salad, Everything Bagel chicken salad, Korean BBQ tacos, Lemon cheesecake stuffed French toast, Vietnamese beef lettuce wraps, penne puttanesca, and the list goes on and on. If you are looking for healthy meals your family will eat. Grab this book!! Sneak in the Strawberry Cauliflower smoothie once they have been won over!
A few good recipes. The few I tried took me longer than 30 minutes. About 45 minutes or so.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
30 min book turn out to be 25-45 minute ine. A lot of health easy to prepare recipes for no time chief. Practical book. A keeper? Perhaps for few dishes not all.
Good illustrations and variety of tips.
The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook: 100 Fast and Healthy Recipes for Busy People by Taylor Ellingson is a collection of recipes that are budget-friendly, health-conscious, and super tasty—and all of them can be made in half an hour or less. No need to be an experienced home chef. This cookbook can show you how to make good, fresh food at any skill level and help you make your kitchen as convenient as possible, with guides to the best equipment and ingredients to keep on hand. Some of the included recipes are: Mixed Berry Pancake Muffins, Pesto Turkey Burgers, Mexican Street Corn Pasta Salad, and One-Skillet Cashew Chicken. This cookbook includes recipes tagged with icons for No Cook, One Pot, 5-Ingredient, or Superfast (10-minute) meals.
The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook is a book geared towards helping people eat healthier, faster. I like that the book starts with the basics, the information and tricks that new cooks might need to make informed decisions and speed up their cooking time. I found all of it to be common sense, and things I had been doing for years, but those just striking out on their own or just moving past pasta and the basics. The recipes are easy to follow with, with clear instructions and good tips and tricks for substitutions and shortcuts when applicable. I like that while the recipes aim for healthy and using fresh ingredients when possible, there is still some fat and richness with lower fat suggestions rather than ignoring the fact that we can all treat ourselves to an alfredo sauce if the mood strikes. Some of the recipes looked fantastic, and gave me ideas of things I might try to mix things up in my own cooking. However, not much struck me as terribly new or original- perhaps because I spend way too much time watching the Food and Cooking channels. I do think that this might be a valuable book for those just starting to have an interest in cooking more, or cutting back on take out for whatever reason.
The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook is a well organized and accessible cookbook. I think it would be the most valuable to those just starting to cook on their own.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review, "The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook" by Taylor Ellingson. As an on the go kind of person. these recipes are the perfect addition to my busy life. The recipes are unique and easy to follow.
The premise of this cookbook is a great one for busy families. And, there appears to be a large variety of recipes from Lemon Cheesecake-Stuffed French Toast to Coconut Tandoori Chicken to Chimichurri Salmon and Vegetables. The recipes are fast ones with lots of cooking hacks and tips included, such as "Making it Healthier" or "Smart Shopping." The recipes look pretty good, but the one thing that is missing is photos of each dish. I know it's expensive to do this, but I really need to see what it looks like before I do the recipe. The visual is very important to me, and probably a lot of other people, too! Also, there are no desserts in this cookbook. Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have a few.
The recipes in this are actually kind of odd. Cauliflower and Strawberry Smoothie? Peanut Butter and Jelly Yogurt Parfait? I mean, none of those really sound appealing to me, but those are just a couple from the breakfast menu. If you are wanting a cookbook for fast and interesting meals, this is it. I personally won't use many recipes out of this, but I will keep it for inspiration or when I want to try something new.
Oh! This cookbook also uses microwave cooking to help speed up cook times-- just a forewarning for those who are like my husband and try to stay far far away from microwaves.
This was a fantastic and super-helpful cookbook. Ellingson uses a lot of Mexican and Indian influence in her cooking and it all sounded so good, and, most importantly, actually like it could be done in a short amount of time. So many recipes that claim to be quick end up taking ages, but these were both simple and straightforward but designed to be flavorful and healthy. Lots of good ones using salmon and shrimp too, and making simple salsas and curries. Plus she includes some tips for easier prep and shopping, corners you can cut, etc. Very straightforward, short intro stories to each recipe (always appreciate that) and lots of great ideas that come together and cook super quickly. Perfection!
I love the simplicity of the recipes found in The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook by Taylor Ellingson. I also loved how the author included some pantry staple recipes you can whip up to use in cooking. The color photos illustrating her cookbook are helpful as the photos show completed recipes giving you an idea on how the recipe should look when completed.
Some of the recipes you'll find include:
Peanut Butter and Jelly Yogurt Parfaits
One-Skillet Biscuits and Sausage Gravy
Shrimp Tortilla Soup
Gruyere and Roasted Red Pepper Tuna Melts
Hummus Flatbreads
Smoked Salmon Flatbreads
One-Skillet Cashew Chicken
One-Pan Dijon Herb Chicken and Vegetables
Italian Sloppy Joes
Taco Stuffed Peppers
Balsamic-Glazed Pork Chops
Taco Seasoning Mix
Teriyaki Sauce
Pancake Mix
At the end of her cookbook the author includes The Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen. These are fruits and vegetables that rated by pesticide loads.
Recommend.
Review written after downloading a galley from NetGalley and I also bought the book as I liked it so much.
I am busy like everyone these days, but also want to eat tasty food. I don't want to look for hours through recipes just to be stuck in the barren wasteland between "can of soup" recipes and "gourmet market" recipes. That's why I was excited to pick up The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook by Taylor Ellingson.
This is filled with lots of good ideas for a quick dinner, like broccoli cheese chicken gnocchi and a taco beef skillet that both look yummy and kid-friendly as well. I think people looking for simple, but not too completely basic recipes will find a lot to go with.
This is a great cookbook for those who want to get a good meal with healthy ingredients on the table quickly. It is also an excellent resource for beginning cooks; it will help them to feel confident and perhaps ready to branch out to more complicated recipes.
The author's style is conversational. The tone of the book is that of having a friend come over and give some cooking advice. The book starts with information including ingredients and supplies to have at hand. The recipes that follow include breakfasts, salads and soups, handhelds, vegetarian, seafood, pork and beef. Just a few of the recipes include chorizo baked eggs, chipotle black been soup, pesto turkey burgers, tomato and goat cheese tart, thai peanut vegetable bowls, coconut curry mussels, creamy chicken sausage pesto pasta....well, you get the idea. 100 easy to follow recipes in all.
I will make good use of this book. Will you?
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
This cookbook is loaded with approachable recipes easily thrown together in less than half an hour. Most of them can be made with items found in any well-stocked pantry and refrigerator.
Tonight I made the Vietnamese Noodle Bowls and they were a huge hit. Tomorrow, I am making the Grilled Peach Panzanella Salad.
I will never be making the Strawberry Cauliflower Smoothie. *smirk*
The author's style is extremely conversational which I just loved.
My only suggestion is that I would like more photos...they really help not only in deciding what to prepare but how to plate it.
Thank you to Taylor Ellingson, Rockridge Press, and NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Taylor Ellingson’s The Easy 30-Minute Cookbook offers practical, easy-to-make recipes that don’t require much time to prep and cook. Ellingson gives some great “hacks” in the book’s first chapter that I found to be original and helpful. Recipes are designated by icons to show if they are superfast, one-pot, 5-ingredient, or no-cook. There’s even a whole chapter of vegetarian recipes to accommodate a variety of dietary needs. There are very few photos in the book, so if you’re visually-oriented, you may be a bit disappointed.
Because the recipes are meant to be quick and easy, I think a less-experienced chef would find the book to be approachable. As a more experienced chef, I was able to identify more than one recipe that I was interested in trying. I have to admit, though, that some recipes were less enticing. For example, the “Everything Bagel Seasoning Chicken Salad Sandwiches” was less a recipe and more an idea – combine shredded chicken, commercial everything bagel seasoning, plain yogurt, and mayonnaise and put it on bread. I think this recipe would probably result in a flat and bland chicken salad. In addition, some recipes certainly are not “healthy,” as promised on the book’s cover – for example, the “Broccoli Cheddar Chicken Gnocchi” has 724 calories, 40g fat, and 1,463mg sodium per serving!
Overall, I think this cookbook has a lot to offer someone who’s hunting for easy, fast recipes and is open to eating flavors for a variety of cuisines. People with children may find some of the recipes to be a tough sell, and all readers should consult the nutrition facts to make sure the recipes fit within their diet.
As a mom of two kids with crazy schedules I'm always looking for quick and easy meals that are healthy. And I definitely did find a bunch of recipes that I will try. But this cookbook has several drawbacks for me. I felt like there was an overload of Asian style dishes. Many of the recipes were not things I think my kids would eat. Also, in no way is 40 grams of fat a healthy recipe. Lastly I like lots of picture in my cookbooks. Despite that I did find several things to try, and I liked the hacks/tips.
The food sounded tasty and I feel like I could prepare it all pretty quickly. I don't think my kids would be thrilled with a lot of the options, but sometimes they surprise me.
I am always looking for recipes that do not take a lot of time and the Easy 30-Minute Cookbook has the kind of recipes that I am looking for.
This cookbook has 100 fast and healthy recipes such as one-skillet biscuits and gravy, lemon chickpea and orzo soup, everything bagel, seasoning chicken salad sandwiches, cajun chicken pasta. The only thing this cookbook does not have is desserts, I get it, desserts are not healthy. But that is fine the book is still awesome.
I like the ease of the recipes, and that they are 30 minutes. Also, the recipes have little icons for No-Cook, One Pot, 5 ingredient or superfast meals.
There are also cooking hacks which are great! They are for clean up, prep, outsmarting the supermarket, plus other cooking hacks.
I liked the recipes and have bookmarked quite a few of them. Oh yes! You do not have to be an experienced cook to use this cookbook! Take a look!
