This was the first novel that I’ve read by Liam Dolan and it was a delightful surprise. It’s a lovely story of three Sweeney Sisters who suffer through both the death of their literary giant father and the discovery of the existence of a fourth sister.

The author uses a timely way to discover previously unknown relatives and truths, a DNA kit, is the vehicle for the women learn about their relationship. The author draws all the characters very well, but her greatest gift is her ability to create such graphic descriptions that a visual reader (such as myself) was able to picture each character and setting.

I found it very engaging, loved the way the epilogue tied up so many endings; as well as the portrayal of a grieving family forced to regroup and establish a new dynamic.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to discussing it in reading groups. So much to talk about, sibling relationships, the tricks of memory and the handling of the death of a parent. Of course, it also questions the rights of “great artists “ in treating their own families.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this novel.
