The message is: Love the planet! What a little gem! So much plastic in the ocean. We can all choose to help.
Did you know there is an island in the ocean made up of plastic that is twice the size of Texas? That is in this book as well as lots of other information I feel is important to share with students. The bottom line, reduce our plastic usage. The ocean animals need us to work harder at this. I think this is a really good read and will buy a classroom copy.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me a digital copy to read for review. Highly recommended!
Did this book come with an important message? Yes. Did this book have gorgeous illustrations? Yes. Did this book infuriate me thinking about the impact we humans have and how much we need to do to make change and how little we are doing? You bet! Ahhh this is the type of children's I love that makes my children moan as I talk their ear off about the environment and how we kind of suck. Needless to say after we had a lengthy discussion we all enjoyed this book.
This is a cute book about a very serious topic. Daddy dolphin tells stories to his young that are fun and adventurous, but also serious. He tells his son to be aware of plastic and that it's really bad for the ocean. He gives information about how it gets in there and why it is bad. He makes them consider positive ways people could eliminate their use of plastic. It is mind blowing to learn how long it takes to break down. This is a wonderful book for kids learning about the environment and what they can do to help save it. The text is told in a rhyming way so has an easy cadence and the illustrations are amazing, large, colourful and whimsical. They easily add much to the story and will hold the attention of the listener. I definitely recommend this one to schools and classrooms.
I enjoyed it and think the message of this book is important. Plastic is killing our oceans and it is the human race's job to not only clean it up, but to also stop pollution in the first place. The simple lessons in back are great and easy for any child to do. The main story itself is nice, but the rhymes are harsh and there is no real flow.
I love kids books that focus on how we can help save our planet! It's especially important for kids to understand pollution, climate change and how WE can be the change and help stop these things! A Dolphin's Wish was a cute story that sent that exact message. Litter and plastic hurt the wildlife in the ocean, and the animals just want a clean and safe environment! This is definitely a great book to teach kids the effect littering has on our oceans and wildlife. The pictures in this book were also vibrant and stunning!

What a delight! This children's book is about a daddy dolphin telling his young dolphin a bedtime story in a proactve way about what is happening in our oceans. He uses rhymes to make it fun for kids but still gets his point across about the dangers to dolphins and all sea life because too much harmful plastic is getting into the oceans. He gives good examples about the ways plastic gets in there, bad things that it can cause, and how people need to be more responsible. He makes them consider positve ways people could eliminate their use of plastic. The illustrations are adorable and will help keep the attention of children so they can absorb the message of this important book. This is a great book for parents, teachers and librarians to use for reading and discussions with kids.
I would like to thank #NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Wow! This book does a great job of bringing to life the plight we have bestowed upon the earth in a kid friendly package.
The illustrations are great. I like the idea that the father dolphin has been asked to tell his child a bedtime story and he decides to tell his child the story of plastics polluting the ocean, this concept really hits home. This book would be a great way to introduce young children to pollution and begin an open and honest discussion about the ways we can all help to reduce our waste.

Cute story to scare little kids about the evils of plastic in the ocean. The ideas and info at the back of the book are good points to discuss even if they are not into the dolphin story.
The illustrations are amazing and drive the serious urgency of the book's message to its readers.
A young dolphin is anticipating a lovely bedtime story from his dad as usual but instead is introduced to the plastic pollution hazard that is destroying his beautiful underwater world. His dad exposes the calf to the horror of the man-made plastic rain that keeps pouring down into the ocean injuring and oftentimes destroying the sea creatures who live there.
Written in rhyme the story is a wake-up call to humans of all ages to get busy and clean up the plastic and other litter that is polluting the oceans. This discarded trash is making both the water and the environment toxic to those poor vulnerable creatures that make the ocean their home. The book graphically portrays how destructive this mindless and dangerous act of pitching everything into the ocean has become.
The author has added an educational component at the end of the book to consider:
~ How YOU can help save our oceans
~ How does plastic get into our oceans?
~ How much plastic leaks into our oceans?
~ How does plastic hurt our oceans?
~ Use these words to teach friends about pollution
The back cover says it all.... "The dolphin's great wish is to keep the ocean clean. Will you help make the wish come true? This book will spark lots of discussion and solutions to help make the oceans sparkling clean and garbage-free once more. It should be included in every classroom setting and in elementary school library. I highly recommend this book.
This book was just spot-on. A young dolphin is looking forward to a nice bedtime story, but it's one of horrors he gets from his father instead – the horrors of man-made plastic pollution. The text is a wonderful rhyming little story, until we drop into the sciencey and educational bit at the end, and the illustrations are if anything even better – wonderfully artistic, with a sort of Disneyfied character to the dolphins but much more accuracy. Literal waves of plastic are sure to stick in the mind. Kids might complain that the factual section is such a large portion of the book, but the message here is a vital one.

5 stars.
What amazing illustrations! I absolutely love them. This book is more than just a cute fun read. It is also one that sends an important message to young children that the ocean is not a rubbish bin and shouldn't be treated as so. It tells little kids how they can help do their part by trying to reduce or stop using plastic items. The story is a father dolphin telling his son to be aware of plastic and that it's really bad for the ocean. It really does make you want to go and clean out all the plastic to make it a safe place once again for all ocean inhabitants. I especially found one of the facts about how long it takes certain types of plastics to breakdown. It's a real eye opener. This is definitely a good choice if you want to send a positive message to young children about the use of plastics and the damage it can do if you don't dispose of it correctly.
