I find books about war fascinating, and this was no exception. What doctors face during wartime is nothing short of heroic, and “War Doctor” painted that picture in a way that was compelling and honest.

A raw and honest account of a UK trained doctor who feels the need to provide his skills and expertise in war-torn countries. The author proves he's like a cat with nine lives, as he risks death over and over while doing everything he can to assist civilians caught up in the atrocities of bomb strikes, snipers, and lawless governments. His stories of operating on children with mangled bodies and lost limbs are almost too difficult to comprehend.
The author should go down in the annals of humanitarianism for his selfless work. Somewhat overly technical for a non-medical person like me, War Doctor is a truly remarkable narration of years of operating day and night in overflowing hospitals worldwide. Despite bombs going off around the cities and hospitals, David Nott continually carried on saving countless lives. War Doctor is an impressive and stunning chronicle of a true hero doctor's life working in some of the most brutal places on earth. It will resonate with readers long after finishing it.

This was a hard book to read with the state of the world as it is currently, BUT still such a powerful story of how David Nott has dedicated his life’s work to saving those in conflict zones that need specialized surgery and medical care. Really eye opening to read of his personal experiences in these war torn parts of the world and the terrors that humans can afflict on each other. In the midst of it all though we get to read of those who despite all the hardship and pain move to make the world better for one person at a time, one day at a time.

As a nurse, I knew that Dr. Nott's book, WAR DOCTOR was a must read for me. It is truly amazing to read this memoir and the places he had been and all the works he has done performing surgeries in the war torn regions and in the most and most dangerous places in the world. Through his experiences, I saw first hand experience and insight into amazing and unforgettable surgeries and human toll of war. This is a book that I will highly recommend.

Amazing and extremely well written. The narrative provides details of the events in a way that pulls the reader into the action. The author describes events, both those with good and bad outcomes, in which he was directly involved and doesn't shy away from the emotional aspects associated with the various situations he finds himself to be in. Raw, gritty, detailed narrative provides for a poignant and page-turning medical memoir.

Wow. This was so amazing! Maybe one of my favorite medical memoirs I've ever read! This is about a British surgeon who began going to distressed or war-torn areas to provide medical care. It's brutally raw and honest and tells about his good experiences, his bad experiences--no squelching around the truth and just making himself look good here! Which, in the end, makes the story even more amazing because he tells you all of it. And then in the end he sets up training for other doctors to be able to improve their surgical care in these areas--and there is a foundation so they can provide scholarships to doctors from poor areas. I could not put this down, and I got so involved in a narrative towards the end, when he is outside Syria but trying desperately for a way to get patients and the doctors he has worked with and grown to love out of Aleppo as it was falling--I got so into it I was starting to have a panic attack. That's pretty involving. LOL. Anyway, this is a magnificent story.
And I was so excited I forgot to thank NetGalley and the publisher from the very bottom of my heart for letting me read this exceptional book!
