I’m a sucker for anything Harlan Coben. Reading the description I wasn’t really sure how I felt this book would turn out. Not surprisingly, I really enjoyed it and am excited to dive into the sequel. The book was face paced and overall hard to put down.

Harlan Coben does it again with this story of a man who grew up in the wild coming back into society even briefly to help solve a mystery. This book was riveting. The characters were complex and their relationships believable and built over the course of the plot. The arc of the storyline was pitched well, and details were fed to the reader at a pace to maintain interest. Highly recommend!
Fun and fast paced. This was my first Harlan Coben, and I had a really good time. I'll be reading more from them in the future! If you are a fan of break neck stories that lean more thriller, this may be the one for you.
"The Boy from the Woods" by Harlan Coben is a page-turning mystery thriller that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The plot revolves around Wilde, a man who was raised in the woods and has a unique set of skills that make him the perfect private detective. When a young girl goes missing in a wealthy New Jersey suburb, Wilde is drawn into the case and must navigate a web of deceit and danger to uncover the truth.
Coben's writing style is fast-paced and engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring the setting and characters to life. The plot is well-constructed, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. The tension builds steadily throughout the story, creating a sense of urgency that makes it impossible to put the book down.
The characters are well-developed, with Wilde being a standout. He is a complex and enigmatic protagonist who is easy to root for. The supporting cast of characters are equally well-drawn, each with their own unique personalities and motivations that add depth to the story.
The themes of family, identity, and justice are explored in a thought-provoking and nuanced way, making "The Boy from the Woods" more than just a typical mystery thriller. Coben's storytelling skills are on full display in this book, making it a thrilling and engaging read from start to finish. It's a must-read for fans of mystery and crime fiction.
This book was totally engrossing and true to Harlan Coben’s style. He leaves you loving the characters and wanting the next book. I wish we saw more books from him faster but this book like all of his others does not disappoint.
The character in this book (Wilde) was found living in the woods and had no memory of his past. When another child goes missing, he is driven to find her. The book leaves you guessing and thinking you know what is really going on - and nope - be ready to be surprised! I hope he writes a sequel to this one.
DNF - did not finish. I tried to read this popular thriller and it was not for me. I will not be finishing it. Thank you publisher and netgalley for the early copy.
Ive been wanting to read Harlan Coben for years, and so glad I picked this up! It was fast paced ad the perfect entertaining suspense novel you would want on a weekend. I will definitely be picking up more by this author.
This was my first Harlan Coben read. I wanted to enjoy this book but it was all over the place for me. I found it hard to focus on one storyline with as many things going on as there were. I did enjoy a few of the characters, but the story didn’t leave me on the edge of my seat as I would like with a thriller and the ending wasn’t really a surprise.
THE BOY FROM THE WOODS is my first Coben novel and I have to say that I am hooked. The author weaves together a story with twists and turns effortlessly as he reveals the mystery. What a read!
I have loved Harlen Coben books through the years. I took me a few chapters to really get into this book but once I did I couldn't put it down. The story had me guessing from beginning to end.
This review is going to look a little different from the others....mainly because....HARLAN COBEN!! He's my #1 dude when it comes to reading books I can't put down. His characters are those that stay with me, that I want to be friends with, that I feel like are my family (Myron, Win, Esperanza, Big Cyndi). With that being said....HESTER!!! She is a secondary character in Coben's Myron Bolitar series and I liked her grittiness when I met her. So I was so pleased to see her play a bigger role in this book.
Hester's grandson, Matthew, feels guilty - he sat back and did nothing when his classmate Naomi was bullied. Now Naomi has gone missing and Matthew wants his grandmother's help in bringing her home. Hester starts by enlisting the help of Wilde, a man who was found 30 years ago living in the woods as a feral child. Hester and Wilde are connected through Hester's late son David. What follows in a pretty fast-paced, engaging story that really kept my interest! Although not my favorite Coben work (sorry, Harlan!) it was definitely worth the read.
Thanks to Harlan Coben, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
I enjoyed this. I think that the character development was good. The story had a decent pace and it kept my attention too! I would recommend.
This is the second book I read this year by Harlan Coben. It was so good. I also binged every Netflix show, based on his books, which might have set my expectations a bit too high.
I like that in many of his books, Coben merges kids' and parents' lives. Each group is dealing with their stuff while getting reeled in tighter and tighter into the central mystery. That is the same in The boy from the Woods. The book starts with the always intriguing story of a boy found in the wild; they have no idea how long this boy, concisely named Wilde, was out there and who left him. We know Wilde learned to cope beautifully. Thirty years later, an adult Wilde still lives alone in a self-sufficient pod; he is an ex-marine who works as an investigator. He has friends, but his past left him emotionally stunted. He has on and off relationship with the widow of his best friend. Her son is worried that a girl at his school, who was severely bullied, has disappeared. Wilde is asked to investigate by the grandmother, the TV lawyer, Hester Crimstein. Wilde becomes entangled in a plot that touches on the dirty deeds of awful spoiled rich guys, from young to old—even involving a Trump wannabe.
In other Coben books, the intersection of teenagers and parent's life is weaved masterfully, here the difference between the two worlds felt jarring. Sometimes even far fetched. Now the political stuff was not unlikely; we have seen the real Mr. Orange do far worse. That is the problem nowadays. Where once a political aspect was entertaining, our world became so absurd, so beyond our imagination that fiction pales in comparison. How can you keep up, when the current situation surpasses whatever you made up every day. Wilde is a great character, and I hope he will be a recurring one. In the end, I liked how it all came together, and like all Coben's books, his pacing is relentless. In the end, I had the feeling he had all these characters ready, and they all come alive beautifully, but then he had to invent this plot to use them, and that worked out a bit awkwardly.
I enjoyed this one! Harlan Coben knows how to pull you in and keep you interested the whole time. Some parts were a bit slower but I overall loved the flow.
This book truly made me a Harlan Coben fan all over again. I love how he has developed Hester Crimestein's character, giving her more depth and back story than we've ever heard in all of his previous books, and I love that he's done it through the telling of a story that's not entirely hers. This book had me cheering for her, lamenting the childhood of the main character, Wilde, and celebrating how their stories came together and what they accomplish with their skills. If you're looking for a new twist to Harlan Coben's old characters, this page-turner is just the thing!
Complex and so good. I love Wilde. I love his storyline, his character, his physical description. Harlan Coben is quickly becoming one of my favorite mystery authors. I love how there are many characters and storylines going on all throughout the book, not complicated at all, just interesting, and then they all come together in the end. This book is about a missing girl, a boy raised in the woods, a single mom, some bad guys and some arrogant teenage boys. Something for everyone! If you haven't read Harlan Coben before, give this one a try. I bet you read more from him.
have been wanting to read this book for a while and it delivered! action-packed and keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more!
Already a Harlan Coben fan? Then get ready to have your socks knocked off with this engrossing addition to his stellar list of books! I was supposed to be reading as my usual bedtime routine and stayed up the ENTIRE night gobbling up this fantastic book!
It includes different storylines, which I always love, and ends up bringing them all around to meet up in a (no better wording) artists display of of colorful craftmanship!
The plus, which can also be a setback, is that the story weaves and turns with such complexity that you must be focused. It isn't a read you are going to want to simply keep in the bathroom...
Absolutely, a must, must, must read! btw, (Lauren loved it too!)
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I started this book but out of the gate some stereotypes in this book really rubbed me the wrong way. I do enjoy how fast paced Coben books are but this one wasn't my favorite.
